Siemens calculates MTBF figures per the DIN/VDE 3540 specification as detailed below:

DIN/VDE 3540 Specification:

MTBF = ((n/2)*90%) * (t*80%) / N

n =Delivered Product
N=Defective Products
t=Time in Years

Using this calculation we presume that only 90% of the supplied products are in the field (10% are in
customer stock as spare units) and that the products that are in the field are only in operation for 80% of
the time.

Based on the above calculation, the MTBF for this product is: 660 years.
