Questions 1-16. What do you think is causing some of the problems in the bank’s home
office and branches?

Answer: - There is clearly a problem with communication, and the effects are felt in the area
of employee commitment. Additional contributing factors include the lack of consistency in
the policies and procedures of various locations. There is no cohesiveness to the staffing
activities of this Organization. Clearly the absence of an HR department in the main office is
behind many of if not all of these problems.

Questions 1-17. Do you think setting up an HR unit in the main office would help?

Answer: - Of course it would. Since there are HR-related problems both in the home office
and in the branches, it is clear that if a personnel office were set up, it would need to help to
coordinate the HR activities in the branches.

Questions 1-18. What specific functions should an HR unit carry out? What HR
functions would then be carried out by supervisors and other line managers? What role
should the Internet play in the new HR organization?

Answer: -HR Unit: job analyses, planning labor needs and recruiting, providing advising and
training in the selection process, orientation of new employees, managing wage and salary
administration, managing incentives and benefits, providing and managing the performance
appraisal process, organization-wide communications, and providing training & developing
services. Supervisors and Other Line Managers: interviewing and selection of job candidates,
training new employees, appraising performance, departmental & personal communications,
and training & development. The new technology helps companies in various areas such as
communication, advertising, marketing and competition. HRM also uses the technology to
reach candidates and communicate with them. HRM can use Internet to create and use an up-
to-date employee database, measure the employee’ abilities, contact with them, train them
and monitor them.
Continuing Case Carter Cleaning Company.

Questions 1-19. Make a list of five specific HR problems you think Carter Cleaning will
have to grapple with.

Answer: - 1) Lack of communication with the company employee. Fail in clarifying the clear
goals and expectations. They are going to need to have a structure put set up so they can talk
with all the zones meanwhile. It needs to be sufficiently basic so the directors at every store
have the ability to send and get information to the general administrator so business can be
coordinated effortlessly. Also, that employees can get the same information and present the
indistinguishable information to all clients at different locations.

2) Hiring and training system can lead to increase the operational costs, employee turnover,
and morale problems. For instance that all staff are treated reasonably, everybody is working
same hours and is paid equally. Even it can non put on the line engaging one group of the
people, for example males and garbage females. Also it means prepare the criteria for
different degrees of labor at each center.

3) Lack of health insurance compensation and poor salary that kept the employee always
unsatisfied with their work that lead to high turnover and decreased the company’s ability to
attract a new employee. They will have to controlling labourcosts and the managing wages
between those that work in dry cleaning side and the attendants (unskilled). Moreover Carter
cleaning company should be focus on worker dissatisfaction.

4) Lack of setting the management performance standard by setting performance standards,


and support the employee by giving the feedback. High turnover makes broke working
environment connections and an authoritative society that doesn’t energize long and
beneficial working connections.
5) Lack of selecting the right people that could perform the job, employee selection program
should be improve. Jennifer, likely as a troubleshooter is to guarantee that the staffing
methodology is decently composed and focusing on the right blend of abilities and capacities
required among competitors. Since, workers are the heart of the hierarchical exercises.
Organization and preparation program for workers to expand their working capacity.

Questions 1-20. What would you do first if you were Jennifer?

Answer: - If I were in Jennifer's shoes the first thing I would do is meet with her father and
discuss about how everything HR related was done in the company before she came. Then I
would hold a meeting for all of the employees to introduce myself and ask them about their
concerns or wants. Then I would analyze the data and map e a strategic plan on how I can
motivate the managers to motivate their staffs, how to train new and old employees to make
work done more efficiently, and establish a recruiting process. After speaking with managers
and her father about what the employees need to be successful I would then run an ad for a
hiring event, to have candidates come in to the stores and see what motivates them to work.
