Antarctic
The highest, whitest, driest, coldest and
windiest ecosystem on Earth. Much of
the ocean around Antarctica is covered
in ice with a freezing temperature all
year. However, even with its drastic
conditions, many organisms are able to
survive there, both in the sea life and the
“land”.
Antarctic Krill
Description: Antarctic krill are small, shrimp-
like crustaceans that play a crucial role in the
Southern Ocean's ecosystem. They have a
translucent body with a length of about 2 to 6
centimeters. Their body features distinct
segments, and they have large, black eyes.
(Euphausia
me fr superba)
(Leptonychotes weddellii)
Weddell Seal
Description: The Weddell seal is one of
the most southerly breeding of all seals
and is well-adapted to the extreme
conditions of the Antarctic environment.
They have a robust, barrel-shaped body, a
relatively small head, and a distinctive V-
shaped nostril. Their fur is dark with light
spots, and they have large, front-facing
eyes.
