BUILD CONNECTION - WARMUP

Welcome the student and set context on what the student and teacher
will do in this class

<Ask the student about his/her day so far>

SAY: Hello <student name>, welcome to today’s special class! In this class, I
would like to help you clear any doubts that you may have had, in all the
Beginning
classes that you’ve attended so far!
(5 mins)
ASK: Have you submitted all the worksheets till now?
Expected response - yes/no
I see that you have not submitted some of your worksheets yet. What
happened? <probe further to understand why the student could not submit
worksheets - it could be because of ANY of these reasons:
1. Was not aware of worksheets
a. SAY: You will get 3 worksheets and a quiz that would get
unlocked after each and every class that is done. You can
solve them and upload them once you’re done. I will then
evaluate them and share my feedback with you. Solving
worksheets is a very good way to ensure that you strengthen
your concepts even further.
2. Solved the worksheets but did not know how to submit
a. SAY: Here is how you can submit your worksheets. <explain
the process>
b. So, now that you know how to submit a worksheet, why don’t
we pick up a different worksheet and solve it? In this class,
let’s submit as many worksheets as we can! Alright? So which
class do you want to pick? Tell me a class for which you did
not attempt the worksheets - we’ll do that.
3. Had some doubts in the worksheets>
a. SAY: No problem! Let’s clear off those doubts then, in today’s
class!
4. I had exams
If the student gives you any other reason apart from the above, do note the
reason and inform your teacher leaders.

Okay - no problem now. Let’s use this time today to solve some of the
worksheets that are provided for you. You know why worksheets are
important?

Whatever you have learnt so far in your classes, by solving the worksheets
immediately after the class, you will retain those concepts for a longer time.
In fact, you’ll be able to learn math even faster if you solve worksheets! We
have designed worksheets in a way that is fun for you to solve as well. So,
shall we start solving some worksheets then?
And by the way - to make the process of submitting the worksheets a lot
easier, we have launched a new way of submitting worksheets! No more
downloading, printing anymore! I will show you how to access the new
worksheets during this class. By the way, you can still submit worksheets like
you used to earlier - that is, download, print and submit your worksheets, if
you want to.

CHECK FOR UNDERSTANDING AND REVIEW

After deciding which worksheets to solve, recall the concepts learnt in
that class. Probe the student to answer a few basic questions, and see if
he/she can recall the narrative. Revise some of the concepts if they have
not understood.
For grades 1-4:
DO: Go to the dashboard and take a look at the worksheets that he/she had
submitted so far. Select the immediately next class for which the student had
submitted the worksheets for. [For example, if the latest class for which the
student had submitted worksheets is C3, then choose C4].
SAY: Okay - I see that you have not submitted the worksheet of this <the
class number> class. So let’s solve them now.

For grades 5-8:

ASK: So which class worksheets do you need help in?
<If the student knows which class worksheets he/she needs help with, based
on the class number that he/she communicates, you would have to help the
student solve the worksheets of that class>

<If the student does not know which class to pick, then you would have to
select the class for the student. Go to the dashboard and take a look at the
worksheets that he/she had submitted so far. Select the immediately next
class for which the student had submitted the worksheets for. [For example, if
the latest class for which the student had submitted worksheets is C3, then
choose C4]>

SOLVING WORKSHEETS
Let the student solve the worksheet on their own. You should intervene ONLY
if the student is stuck or if he/she asks you for help. Keep probing, ask what
concept is involved in each question, ask for the solving strategy and then
Core proceed to help him/her solve.
(40 mins) It is MANDATORY to submit at least one of the worksheets (Foundation,
Application, Create). In case you still have more time after the student solved
all the worksheets, proceed to the worksheets of the next class.
Once you have the class number, follow the process to open the worksheets
is below:
1. Ask student to click “screen share”
2. Instruct the student to hover on the left side and open the dashboard
in a new tab.
3. Go to ‘My Worksheets’ and select any pending worksheet.
4. Once the student selects a particular worksheet, on the right hand
side ask the student to click on Solve Online.
5. The worksheet will open with the whiteboard feature.
6. Ask the student to come back to the Whitehat Jr tab (tab with the red
dot), and click on start activity, the teacher clicks on start activity too.
7. Once in the classroom environment, the teacher can load the wrap up
slide of that specific class and revise the concept of that class.
8. Post that the teacher should ask the student to go to the tab where
the ws was opened and help the student solve ws. Once if all the
three ws are done, then instruct the student to click on submit ws.

After the student is ready with the worksheet, go to the wrap up applet of that
class on the ops panel and click on “start activity”.
Example - If the decided class is C4, go to the applet “Wrap Up - C4” and
click on “start activity”>

SAY: Let’s start the class by quickly going through the foundation worksheet.
This worksheet helps us in strengthening the concepts learnt so far, in the
class. You can use your book to work out these problems. In case you have
any doubts, I’ll help you solve them by writing on the whiteboard. So, shall we
begin?

DO: Open the step-by-step worksheet solutions of the class that the student
has chosen and use it as a reference, to help him/her solve the worksheet.
Ensure that you have yourself solved the problems before you take the class.

DO: IMPORTANT - If the student is using his/her notebook to work out the
problems, then do remember to click “Take screenshot”, for every problem.
After all questions from the foundation worksheet are done,
SAY: Great job!
Appreciate the student. Award hats off for doing this.

IF there is more time, proceed to the application worksheet. Else, go to

wrap-up.

SAY: The foundation worksheet was easy, wasn’t it? Now let’s take up a
bigger challenge-the application worksheet! This worksheet helps you to
apply the concepts that you have learnt in the class, to solve some real world
problems. As you have done earlier, you can use your book to work out these
problems. In case you have any doubts, I’ll help you solve them by writing on
the whiteboard. So, shall we begin?

remaining is the create worksheet! As you have done earlier, you can use

SOLVING MORE WORKSHEETS

IF there is more time, proceed to the worksheets of the next class. Otherwise,
move to wrap up.

Wrap Up WRAP UP
(10 mins)
Capture Learning from the class +
Reinforce the importance of completing post class worksheets +
Set the student up for the next worksheets

● Get the student to articulate what they learned in the class.

● Help students understand the reason why completing worksheets
post class is important.
● Reinforce how consistent problem solving leads to better mastery of
concepts.
● Say: “Problem solving in Maths is a habit and you get better at it as
you practice more. We have found that the students who are solving
worksheets consistently are getting more proficient with math
problem solving and their understanding of math concepts is
improving”
● Get to understand if the student is spending consistent time every
week on attempting worksheets.
● Help students identify and reserve time for working on the
worksheets every week.
● Get the student to identify the next set of worksheets they will work
upon. Get the students to commit the date by which they will be able
to complete these worksheets.
● Share with the student all the support available to them to help
complete the worksheet.
IMPORTANT - Before you close the class,

SAY - This class does NOT have any post class material. That means, there
won’t be any worksheets or quiz for this class!
