A DETAILED LESSON PLAN IN ENGLISH (GRADE 11– FOURTH QUARTER)

CONTENT STANDARD:
The learner understands the distinction between and among creative non-fiction types and
forms.

PERFORMANCE STANDARD:
The learner competently delivers an artistic presentation summarizing and analyzing the form,
theme and techniques of a chosen creative non-fictional text.

LEARNING COMPETENCY:
Deliver an artistic presentation summarizing, analyzing, and commenting on a chosen creative
non-fictional text presenting a particular type or form.

I. OBJECTIVES
At the end of the lesson, the students should be able to:
a. defines the paragraph development and identify its elements and techniques in the
discussion;
b. recognizes the significance of knowing the elements of paragraph development as well as
the process or techniques through giving insights; and
c. writes a paragraph about a given topic by applying the elements and techniques of
paragraph development.

Do you want an activity class?

Now, for our introductory activity. I will


divide you into two groups.

(The teacher will divide the students into two


groups)

I want the group 1 to stay here and group 2


here.

At the count of 10 seconds, I want you to go (The students will do as told)


to your respective groups and form a circle.

Everyone takes your seats properly and


listens now for the instructions.

This morning we are going to have an activity


that is called “pick and discuss”. I have here a
box class that contains papers. These papers
have written text with different topics.
All you need to do class, each group will pick
one piece of paper and after that you are
going to discuss, analyze and understand
together with your groupmates then you will
discuss or explain here in front about your
given text.
I will give you 3 minutes to discuss it in your
group and 2 minutes in discussing here in
front. Yes ma’am.

Now, I will let you pick and just wait for me


to come in your area.

Let us welcome the group 1 first and


followed by the group 2.

I love listening to music at night. One


reason that I enjoy it so much is that it
relaxes me. Music has a soothing effect in
a way that it eases my tension and stress.
For example, if I feel mentally exhausted
after reviewing for an exam, I play music
and listen to it for thirty minutes before I
sleep. I can feel it relieves my stress and
improves my mood too. Also, music helps
me fall asleep easily. Listening to music
for 45 minutes makes my muscles relax,
slows down breathing, and tunes my
mind to sleep mode. This results in a
longer better sleep throughout the night.
The life of an influencer is tough. First,
you always need to look presentable to
your followers wherever you are. You
cannot just wear any ordinary clothes
when you are going to the mall because
you do not know if you have some
followers around. Also, influencers need
to update their fans from time to time
either through Youtube, IG, Tiktok, or
Twitter. There has been a report that
several influencers lost a number of
followers because they became idle for a
couple of weeks. Lastly, you always need
to be creative to keep all your followers.
Once they get bored in the content of
your videos or pictures they might
unfollow you. Many influencers do a lot
of tiktok videos, reactions, pranks,
challenges in order to entertain their
followers.

In relation with your activity about a
paragraph that contains different topic, I
want you to stay focus as we are going to
discuss this morning about Paragraph
Development.

But first, let us know our learning


objectives so that we will be guided along
with our discussion. Everybody read.

At the end of the lesson, you are expected
to:
a. defines the paragraph development and
identify its elements in the discussion;

D. Discussion

Now, let us define first what is paragraph for


us to able to understand our topic this
morning.

Paragraph- is a group of sentences unified by


one single idea with four basic components,
namely:
a. topic sentence
b. supporting ideas
c. supporting details
d. concluding paragraph (optional)

Now, let us know what is Paragraph


Development.

Paragraph Development- Paragraph


development begins with the formulation of
the controlling idea.

Elements of paragraph development

Unity - in paragraph means that all sentences


revolve around one main idea found in the
topic sentence.

Development - is to provide relevant details


to support or expand the topic sentence in
order to make the paragraph adequately
developed.

Support - a paragraph needs supporting


details in order to fully understand the topic
sentence.
Two kinds of support:
 Supporting idea
 Supporting detail

Coherence- which also means ‘clarity of


expression’. That is to make these sentences
flow logically and smoothly; not disconnected
or carrying isolated thoughts, so ideas
become much clearer to the readers.

5 steps process/techniques to paragraph


development
Step 1: Decide on a guiding idea for the

Now, let’s have an activity. This activity will


test if you really understand our discussion
about paragraph development.

At the count of 10, I want you to go to your


groups and form a circle. Group 1 will stay at
this area and group 2 will stay here. Same
group during our activity earlier.

the members of the group then give it to me.

Each group will choose one representative to Yes ma’am.

What is paragraph development?

Why do we need to know the elements of


paragraph development as well as the
process or techniques?

As a student, paragraphs are crucial to


writing because they give us a structure for
arranging our thoughts in a logical sequence.
A precise paragraph structure assists in
directing the reader through your written
work.
