INTRODUCTORY RITES
ENTRANCE HYMN
When the Entrance Chant is concluded, the Celebrant and the faithful, standing, sign
themselves with the Sign of the Cross, while the Celebrant, facing the people, says:
I
n the name of the Father, and of the Son,
and of the Holy Spirit.
M
ay almighty God have mercy on us,
forgive us our sins, and bring us to everlasting
life.
R. Amen.
Let us pray.
And all pray in silence with the Celebrant for a moment. Then he extends his hands, and
says:
G
od our Father,
the source and reward of love,
who through your Son who became man
gave the new commandment of love to your Church;
grant, we pray, that we may follow
the example of Saint Louise;
and by practicing your love on earth
we may obtain the kingdom promised
to your servants who are faithful.
Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son,
who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit,
one God, for ever and ever.
At the end of which the people acclaim:
Amen.
Alleluia, Alleluia!
Come, you who are blessed by my Father.
Inherit the kingdom prepared for you
from the foundation of the world.
Alleluia, Alleluia!
The Celebrant puts some incense into the thurible. The deacon who is to proclaim the
gospel bows to the Celebrant. In a low voice, he asks his blessing:
Father, give me your blessing.
The Celebrant says in a low voice:
May the Lord be in your heart and on your lips,
that you may proclaim his Gospel worthily and well,
in the name of the Father
and of the Son X
and of the Holy Spirit.
The deacon answers:
Amen.
G
od of Life and Lord of History, you emboldened Saints
Vincent and Louise to found the Company of the
Daughters of Charity. As we celebrate the Resurrection of
the Paschal Lamb, grant us the grace to be faithful to our
founders’ legacy of service to people living in various forms of
poverty, as we bring to you our needs and the needs of the world,
saying,
1. For our Holy Father, Pope Francis, all bishops and clergy: that they may
continue to be signs and channels of God’s mercy and forgiveness, and
that their living examples draw people to the Christian fold, and bring
the joyful message of salvation to all. Let us pray to the Lord.
2. For the Superior Generals, Fr. Tomaz and Sr. Francoise and their
councils: that faithful to the legacy of Saint Vincent and Saint Louise,
they may always seek to alleviate poverty and suffering wherever and
whenever they see it. Let us pray to the Lord: Let us pray to the Lord.
3. For the leaders of nations: that inspired by the prayers and witnessing of
Christians the world over, they may render service in charity, uphold
justice and peace; and govern in solidarity with the peoples of the world.
Let us pray to the Lord.
5. For all the Daughters of Charity all over the world, as well as their lay
partners and collaborators who experienced God’s unique love and
invitation to discipleship: that they may continue to live out with joy and
fulfil the life and mission entrusted to them. Let us pray to the Lord.
Celebrant:
Loving Father,
hear the humble petitions we bring before you.
Grant us renewed faith in your love and mercy
and make us courageous disciples of your Son Jesus,
who invites us to serve him
in those living in various forms of poverty.
This we ask through the same Christ our Lord.
R. Amen.
Then the Celebrant, with hands extended, says the Prayer over the Offerings:
A
ccept, Lord,
the gifts your family is presenting to you
on the feast of St. Louise,
and grant that we may share in the mystery of Christ,
who gave himself up for us,
and that may we come closer to you,
the source of every true love.
Through Christ our Lord.
R. Amen.
I
t is truly right and just, our duty and our salvation,
always and everywhere to give you thanks,
Lord, holy Father, almighty and eternal God,
and to praise your wonderful love
manifested in Saint Louise.
You taught her to dedicate herself to the poor
so that she became a true witness
of your love in the world.
Your family rejoices in her feast,
as you invite us to follow the love
made known in your Gospel,
and to restore your kingdom
of justice and Christian love.
And so, with the company of Angels and Saints,
we sing the hymn of your praise,
as without end, we acclaim.
The assembly led by the choir sings the Sanctus.
The faithful kneels. Then the Celebrant, with hands extended, says:
Y
ou are indeed Holy, O Lord, Celebrant alone
and all you have created rightly gives you praise,
for through your Son our Lord Jesus Christ,
by the power and working of the Holy Spirit,
you give life to all things and make them holy,
and you never cease to gather a people to yourself,
so that from the rising of the sun to its setting
a pure sacrifice may be offered to your name.
He joins his hands and holding them outstretched over the offerings, says:
Therefore, O Lord, we humbly implore you: Celebrant
by the same Spirit graciously make holy with Concelebrants
Amen.
After the chalice and paten have been set down, the Celebrant, with hands joined, says:
With hands extended, the Celebrant alone continues, saying the embolism:
Deliver us, Lord, we pray, from every evil,
graciously grant peace in our days,
that, by the help of your mercy,
we may be always free from sin
and safe from all distress,
as we await the blessed hope
and the coming of our Savior, Jesus Christ.
He joins his hands.
The people conclude the prayer, acclaiming:
For the kingdom, the power and the glory are yours
now and for ever.
The Celebrant, turned towards the people, extending and then joining his hands, adds:
The peace of the Lord be with you always.
R. And with your spirit.
PRIVATE PREPARATION
The invocation may even be repeated several times if the fraction is prolonged. Only the
final time, however, is grant us peace said. Then the Celebrant, with hands joined, says
quietly:
Lord Jesus Christ, Son of the living God,
who by the will of the Father
and the work of the Holy Spirit,
through your Death gave life to the world;
free me by this, your most holy Body and Blood,
from all my sins and from every evil;
keep me always faithful to your commandments,
and never let me be parted from you.
The Celebrant genuflects, takes the host and, holding it slightly raised above the paten or
above the chalice, while facing the people, says aloud:
Behold the Lamb of God,
behold him who takes away the sins of the world.
Blessed are those called to the supper of the Lamb.
And together with the people he adds once:
Lord, I am not worthy
that you should enter under my roof,
but only say the word
and my soul shall be healed.
Then the Celebrant may return to the chair. If appropriate, a sacred silence may be
observed for a while, or a psalm or other canticle of praise or a hymn may be sung.
Let us pray.
All pray in silence with the Celebrant for a while, unless silence has just been observed.
Then the Celebrant, with hands extended, says the Prayer after Communion:
M
ay this food from heaven,
we pray, Lord God,
ever strengthen our love
as we follow the love of Saint Louise,
so that the faith which we carry within us
manifest itself outwardly in our work.
Through Christ our Lord.
R. Amen.
The incensation of the image and/or relic of Saint Louise follows, while A Woman
Named Louise, or another appropriate hymn, is sung.
In Saint Louise,
God has given us an outstanding example
of love for the poor;
may He increase love in your hearts.
R. Amen.
A
nd may the blessing of almighty God,
the Father, and the Son, X and the Holy Spirit,
come down on you and remain with you for ever.
R. Amen.
Then the Deacon, with hands joined and facing the people, says:
Thanks be to God.
