People:
2
INTRODUCTION TO THE CELEBRATION AND
PENITENTIAL RITE
The Presider introduces the celebration and leads the people to the penitential rite.
A brief pause for silence follows. Then all recite together the formula of general
confession:
I confess to almighty God
and to you, my brothers and sisters,
that I have greatly sinned,
in my thoughts and in my words,
in what I have done and in what I have failed to do,
And, striking their breast, they say:
through my fault, through my fault,
through my most grievous fault;
Then they continue:
therefore I ask blessed Mary ever-Virgin,
all the Angels and Saints,
and you, my brothers and sisters,
to pray for me to the Lord our God.
Presider:
People:
Amen.
3
KYRIE
Lord, have mercy.
Lord, have mercy.
COLLECT
Presider:
Let us pray.
R: Amen.
4
LITURGY OF THE WORD
5
The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want.
In verdant pastures he gives me repose;
Beside restful waters he leads me;
he refreshes my soul.
R. The Lord is my shepherd; there is nothing I shall want.
6
Peter proceeded to speak and said:
"You know what has happened all over Judea,
beginning in Galilee after the baptism
that John preached,
how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth
with the Holy Spirit and power.
He went about doing good
and healing all those oppressed by the Devil,
for God was with him.
We are witnesses of all that he did
both in the country of the Jews and in Jerusalem.
They put him to death by hanging him on a tree.
This man God raised on the third day and granted that he
be visible,
not to all the people, but to us,
the witnesses chosen by God in advance,
who ate and drank with him after he rose from the dead.
He commissioned us to preach to the people
and testify that he is the one appointed by God
as judge of the living and the dead.
To him all the prophets bear witness,
that everyone who believes in him
will receive forgiveness of sins through his name."
ALLELUIA

GOSPEL John 10: 11-16
Jesus said:
"I am the good shepherd.
A good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep.
A hired man, who is not a shepherd
and whose sheep are not his own,
sees a wolf coming and leaves the sheep and runs away,
and the wolf catches and scatters them.
This is because he works for pay and has no concern for
the sheep.
I am the good shepherd,
and I know mine and mine know me,
just as the Father knows me and I know the Father;
and I will lay down my life for the sheep.
I have other sheep that do not belong to this fold.
These also I must lead, and they will hear my voice,
and there will be one flock, one shepherd."
RITE OF ORDINATION
The Ordination of Priests then begins.
The Bishop, if necessary, goes to the seat prepared for the Ordination, and the
presentation of the candidates takes place.
8
Election of the Candidates
Present.
Present.
When the candidates are in their places before the Bishop, the priest
designated by the Bishop says:
9
the priesthood.
He answers:
Bishop:
Thanks be to God.
All present give their assent to the choice by means of a sung or recited acclamation, such
as, Thanks be to God, or by other suitable words. The assent may also be given by means
of an action, for example, by applause or by all standing.
HOMILY
Promises of the Elect
After the homily, the elect alone rise and stand before the Bishop, who questions all of
them together in these words:
10
D ear son, before you enter the Order of Priesthood,
you must declare before the people your intention to
undertake this office.
I do.
Bishop:
Bishop:
11
reverently, in accord with the Church’s tradition,
the mysteries of Christ, especially the sacrifice of
the Eucharist and the sacrament of Reconciliation,
for the glory of God and the sanctification of
the Christian people?
Elect:
I do.
Bishop:
I do.
Bishop:
12
Then each one of the elect goes to the Bishop and, kneeling before him, places his hands
between those of the Bishop.
I do.
Litany of Supplication
Then all stand. After putting aside the miter, the Bishop stands, faces the people and,
With hands joined, invites them to pray:
M y dear people,
Let us pray that God the all-powerful Father
will pour out abundantly the gifts of heaven
on these, his servants, whom he has
chosen for the office of priest.
The elect prostrate themselves and the litany is sung; all respond. On Sundays and
during the season of Easter, all in the assembly remain standing. On other days,
however, they kneel, in which case a deacon says:
13
Let us kneel.
14
From every sin, Lord, save your people.
From everlasting death, Lord, save your people.
By your coming as man, Lord, save your people.
By your death and rising to new life, Lord, save your people.
By your gift of the Holy Spirit, Lord, save your people.
After the singing of the litany, the Bishop standing, with hands outstretched, sings or
says:
All answer:
Amen.
15
Deacon (if the people are kneeling):
Let us stand.
All rise.
The elect rise. One by one they go the Bishop, who stands at his chair wearing the miter,
and kneel before him.
The Bishop lays his hands upon the head of each of them, without saying anything.
After the Bishop has laid on hands, all the priests present, wearing stoles, lay hands on
each of the elect, without saying anything.
After the laying on of hands, the priests remain alongside the Bishop until the end of the
Prayer of Ordination, in such a way that the faithful may have a clear view of the rite.
With the elect kneeling before him, the Bishop puts aside the miter, and, with hands
outstretched, he sings or says the Prayer of Ordination:
16
offices arose, established through mystical rites:
when you set Moses and Aaron over your people
to govern and sanctify them,
you chose men next in rank and dignity
to accompany them and assist them in their task.
17
throughout the whole world.
And now we beseech you, Lord, in our weakness,
to grant us these helpers that we need
to exercise the priesthood that comes
from the Apostles.
18
May they be joined with us, Lord,
in imploring your mercy
for the people entrusted to their care
and for all the world.
All answer:
Amen.
19
After the Prayer of Ordination, all sit. The Bishop puts on the miter and the newly
Ordained stand. The priests assisting the Bishop return to their places, but some of them
help the newly Ordained to arrange the stole in the manner proper to priests and to put
on the chasuble.
Next, the Bishop receives a linen gremial. If circumstances so suggest, he instructs the
people. Then he anoints with holy chrism the palms of each new priest as he kneels before
him. The Bishop says:
Then the Bishop and the newly Ordained wash their hands.
Next, some of the faithful bring a paten holding the bread and a chalice containing the
wine mixed with water for the celebration of Mass. A deacon receives them and brings
them to the Bishop, who places them in the hand of each one of the newly Ordained as he
kneels before him. To each one of the Bishop says:
Lastly, the Bishop gives each of the newly ordained the fraternal kiss, saying:
20
P eace be with you.
Likewise, all the priests present, give the fraternal kiss to the newly Ordained.
The Mass continues in the usual manner. The profession of faith is said when called for
by the rubrics; the Prayer of the Faithful (Universal Prayer) is omitted.
21
PREPARATION OF THE ALTAR
AND THE GIFTS
During the preparation of the gifts, the Offertory song is sung and the altar table is
prepared. The Presider takes the paten with the bread and, holding it slightly raised above
the altar says:
The deacon pours wine and a little water into the chalice saying inaudibly:
By the mystery of this water and wine
may we come to share in the divinity of Christ,
who humbled himself to share in our humanity.
Then the Presider takes the chalice and, holding it slightly raised above the altar says:
People:
22
The Presider bows and says inaudibly:
He may now incense the offerings and the altar. Afterwards the deacon or a minister
incenses the Presider and people.
Next the Presider stands at the side of the altar and washes his hands saying inaudibly:
People:
23
Presider:
R: Amen.

SANCTUS
The Priest, with hands extended, says:
He joins his hands and makes the Sign of the Cross once over the bread and the chalice
together, saying:
26
the Body and Blood of our Lord, Jesus Christ,
He joins his hands.
He takes the bread and, holding it slightly raised above the altar, continues:

Then he says:
28
T herefore, O Lord as we celebrate
the memorial of the saving Passion of your Son,
his wondrous Resurrection
and Ascension into heaven,
and as we look forward to his second coming,
we offer you in thanksgiving
this holy and living sacrifice.
M ay he make of us
an eternal offering to you,
so that we may obtain an inheritance with your elect,
especially with the most Blessed Virgin Mary,
Mother of God,
with Blessed Joseph, her spouse,
with your blessed Apostles and glorious Martyrs
with Saint Francis Caracciolo,
and with all the Saints,
on whose constant intercession in your presence
we rely for unfailing help.
Celebrant or One Concelebrant:
29
M ay this Sacrifice of our reconciliation,
we pray, O Lord,
advance the peace and salvation of all the world.
Be pleased to confirm in faith and charity
your pilgrim Church on earth,
with your servant Francis, our Pope
and Gilbert our Bishop, the Order of Bishops,
these your servants,
who have been ordained today
as Priests for the Church,
all the clergy, and the entire people you have
gained for your own.
Listen graciously to the prayers of this family,
Whom you have summoned before you:
in your compassion, O merciful Father,
gather to yourself all your children
scattered throughout the world.
Celebrant or One Concelebrant:
30
through Christ our Lord,
through whom you bestow on the world
all that is good.

O GOD, ALMIGHTY FATHER,
IN THE UNITY OF THE HOLY SPIRIT,
ALL GLORY AND HONOR IS YOURS,
FOREVER AND EVER.
The people acclaim:

The Priest, turned towards the people, extending and then joining his hands, adds:
And all offer one another a sign, in keeping with local customs, that expresses peace,
communion, and charity. The Priest gives the sign of peace to a Deacon or minister.
Then he takes the host, breaks it over the paten, and places a small piece in the chalice,
saying quietly:

The Priest genuflects, takes the host and, holding it slightly raised above the paten or
above the chalice, while facing the people, says aloud:
