Roaming Configuration Procedure for Border gateway and Firewall
A border Gateway is router which is in the edge of a PLMN. Its role is to interconnect with others PLMN and also to play the
role of a firewall, this enabling or denying access to IP request from others foreign PLMN. Firewall is usually collocated with
the border gateway, but can also at some operators be a standalone node. GPRS operators allow roaming through an
inter-operator backbone network. The GPRS operators connect to the inter-operator network through a border gateway
(BG), which can provide the necessary interworking and routing protocols (for example, border gateway protocol [BGP]).
In order to do so, Border gateway and FW needs to have the following information’s
- The list of all Autonomous System Number (ASN) which identify in unique manner the network
- All IP ranges of the network nodes of the foreign PLMN ( to allow DNS or PDP requests for example)
- MMSC IP address (if applicable)
-

To configure a 4-byte AS number in plain number format, include the autonomous-system statement and specify the 4-
byte AS number. In the following example the AS number is set to 65546.
