I. The mysterious disappearance of Roanoke was a result of the colonists splitting up and
assimilating into the Native tribes.

II The Roanoke colonists simply disappeared while their leader, John Smith, had left for
more supplies..

A. No evidence existed of starvation.


B. No evidence existed of a rushed exit as in a battle

III. The colony did not show evidence of people being unexpectedly rushed away or
disease ridden remains.

A. No evidence left behind of Spanish troops attacking

IV. The Roanoke colonists left the island because of the dire future they faced in Roanoke.

A. John Smith took years to return with supplies because of unforeseen circumstances.
B. The Spaniards were in the foreground pressuring an attack.

V. To conclude, the Roanoke colonists were in a dire situation. As the days rolled by, out of
supplies, pressured with imminent invasion, not knowing when or if their leader, John Smith,
was going to return, the colonist chose to split up and assimilate into the Native tribes in the
east and west.
