2023 MEDICAL-PASSENGER ILLNESS- MEDICAL SUPPORT CONTACTED ON GROUND
It was reported that a wchc passenger boarded with their family members, with the necessary approval to travel. During cruise,
passenger was having breathing difficulties, oxygen was administered and GMS contacted. GMS then advised that oxygen was no
longer required as the passengers vital signs were all ok. A request for medical services to meet the passenger was not required at
this time. After landing and when the aircraft parked at the gate the purser reported to the captain that during descent,
approximately 10 to 15 mins before landing the passenger started having the same breathing difficulties and a cabin crew member
administered oxygen to the passenger and continuously monitored them throughout the landing. As soon as the doors opened the
purser asked for medical services. The medical services arrived and quickly attended to the sick passenger.
Flight Safety update: The cabin crew completed the illness report I/I 49276 regarding the event.

B777 DXB - SEA Approach

UNSTABLE APPROACH - VERTICAL PROFILE – GO-AROUND
During the ILS approach to runway 34R, the aircraft encountered glideslope fluctuations. In response, Bulletin EAD 124 R2 was
implemented. The glideslope could not be captured again and a go-around was flown from 1,000 feet AAL. An RNP approach for
runway 34R was followed on the subsequent approach.
Flight Safety update: The QAR data indicate a possibility of minor momentary glideslope fluctuation at an altitude of 2,200 feet AAL.
The autopilot was disengaged when passing 2,100 feet AAL and the flight directors were not followed leading to a vertical speed
increase to 1,420 feet per minute. A glidepath deviation of 0.4 dot below the glideslope was recorded before the rate reduced to
176 feet per minute. At 1,100 feet AAL, the flight directors were cycled and the LOC captured. The glideslope remained armed as
the aircraft was 1.0 dot below the glidepath and vertical speed mode with a rate of descent of 1,000 feet per minute was selected
on the MCP. At 677 feet AAL a GPWS GLIDESLOPE warning activated and the flight crew performed a standard go-around from 657
feet AAL with a deviation of 1.49 dot below the glideslope.

2022 GLIDESLOPE SIGNAL INTERFERENCE - SIGNAL DISTURBANCE - CONTINUED
During ILS approach to runway 34R, the glideslope signal was disturb causing slightly higher pitch changes and eventually a
degraded GS FMA mode. The required Bulletin was applied and the approach continued to land.
Flight Safety update: The QAR data is not available. The GS critical area is right where all aircraft departing RWY 34R are staged
awaiting departure (Example included below). There are at least 4 aircraft awaiting departure on RWY 34R while UAE is on final,
there are multiple aircraft that depart prior to the arrival, the last of which departs when UAE229 is on a 5.45 mile final. The
proximity of TWY B to RWY 34R can have a small impact to the instrument equipment for aircraft landing RWY 34R. If the conditions
were low enough to warrant protection of any critical areas we would have been more restrictive to aircraft on the ground and
their respective positions. As it was not, this is a typical operation for us here at SEA. The limiting factors of our available real estate
play a key role in this situation developing and is a primary reason that the outboard runway (RWY 34L) is the preferred arrival
runway. I hope this sheds some light on the airport environment and our operation.

October B777 DXB - SEA Approach

2022 GLIDESLOPE SIGNAL INTERFERENCE - DISCONTNUED APPROACH
During the ILS approach to runway 34R , the approach was discontinued from 3,800 feet QNH due to a glideslope signal
interference. The subsequent RNAV approach was successful.
Flight Safety update: The QAR data indicate that a pitch mode failure activated at 3,800 feet QNH and the approach was
discontinued. Glideslope signal interference on runway 16L and 34R are a know occurrence in SEA. The station CCI warns of the
possibility and advises flight crews to consider the RNAV(RNP) approach.

LOSS OF GPS-SUSPECTED ELECTRONIC JAMMING-SPURIOUS GPWS ACTIVATION
GPS jamming was experienced in the Ankara and Istanbul FIRs. A time shift occurred. Approaching position EVGEG, EGPWS
TERRAIN PULL UP activated for two seconds at FL340. The GPS position showed the location over Crimea.
Flight Safety update: The QAR data indicates that in the Ankara FIR the GPS position instantaneously shifted 180NM to a position
over the Crimean Peninsular at low or negative GPS altitudes, and periods of being accurate. About two minutes later, ANP spiked
to 20NM and the aircraft rolled to the left to a maximum of six degrees. 34 seconds later, EGPWS PULL UP activated for five
seconds at FL340. 43 minutes later, the GPS position and altitude were accurate and ANP was 0.03 consistently. External electronic
jamming is the most probable cause of the reported GPS signal loss. FCN 2023-050 GPS Signal Interference has been published to
provide generic information about GPS signal interference, its effects and Emirates’ experience and countermeasures. For aircraft
related information, refer to the respective type specific documentation.

December B777 DXB - AMS Cruise

2023 LOSS OF GPS-SUSPECTED ELECTRONIC JAMMING
GPS jamming was experienced in the Tehran, Ankara and Sofia FIRs. Approaching position EVGEG the clock shifted almost five
minutes (from 1544z to 1549z). After 37 minutes, near to position BALBI, the GPS jamming ceased and the clock returned to the
correct time.
Flight Safety update: External electronic jamming is the most probable cause of the reported GPS signal loss. FCN 2023-050 GPS
Signal Interference has been published to provide generic information about GPS signal interference, its effects and Emirates’
experience and countermeasures. For aircraft related information, refer to the respective type specific documentation.

LOSS OF GPS-SUSPECTED ELECTRONIC JAMMING-SPURIOUS GPWS ACTIVATION
GPS jamming was experienced in the Sofia FIR and a time shift was evident. EICAS TERRAIN POS displayed. EGPWS TERRAIN PULL
UP PULL UP activated at FL340 and was assessed to be spurious.
Flight Safety update: The QAR data indicate that the GPS position jumped by 193NM over three seconds and five seconds later the
ANP peaked to 20NM. The GPS position moved to be over Sevastopol at a negative GPS altitude. The aircraft rolled to the left to a
maximum of five degrees, as ANP continued to spike to 20NM several times. 36 seconds after the map shift, EGPWS PULL UP
activated for five seconds at FL340, with the aircraft rolling to the left again, to a maximum of seven degrees. Several more spikes of
large ANP and small changes in roll and heading occurred over the next two minutes. Then the GPS altitude recovered to accurate
values and the GPS position drifted back to the actual position over the following 20 minutes. External electronic jamming is the
most probable cause of the reported GPS signal loss. FCN 2023-050 GPS Signal Interference has been published to provide generic
information about GPS signal interference, its effects and Emirates’ experience and countermeasures. For aircraft related
information, refer to the respective type specific documentation.

November A380 DXB - AMS Cruise

2023 LOSS OF GPS-SUSPECTED ELECTRONIC JAMMING-SPURIOUS GPWS ACTIVATION
GPS jamming was experienced in the Ankara FIR at position NINVA at FL380. EGPWS TERRAIN AHEAD, PULL UP activated.
Inconsistent terrain information was displayed on ND. The warning was cancelled as it was assessed to be spurious. The following
ECAM messages were displayed: GPWS 1+2 FAULT, TCAS 1+2 FAULT, SURV PRED W/S 1+2 FAULT, PWS 1+2 FAULT, GPS 1+2 FAULT
and GLS 1+2 FAULT.
Flight Safety update: The QAR data indicate that EGPWS TERRAIN, TERRAIN, PULL UP activated at FL380, for 69 seconds. The GPS
position was erroneous, showing the aircraft stationary over Syria at 1,200 feet for the period of the warning.
As indicated previously by AIB, in these events, the AESS
considers that GPS altitude to be valid, which leads to a spurious monitoring of the radio altimeters, which it then rejects as invalid,
as they do not match the GPS altitude. This results in the rejection of all three radio altitude readings by the AESS. Finally, as the
TCAS, GPWS and PWS functions of AESS use radio altitude input and these are rejected, then these three functions are lost, as
reported.

2023 LOSS OF GPS-SUSPECTED ELECTRONIC JAMMING
GPS jamming was experienced in the Ankara FIR earlier in the flight, which resolved itself. Upon arrival in AMS on the ILS approach
to runway 18C, when established on the localiser at 2,500 feet, EICAS NAV UNABLE RNP displayed and the navigation source
reverted to inertial. The FMS POS revealed that the GPS R position was missing. RAD NAV INHIBIT was selected to OFF.
Flight Safety update:
The PLF shows no active faults at the time of approach and landing, and only inactive faults, from the earlier jamming. The level of
ADS-B coverage around AMS, which was recorded as between 0-2% on the date of the report. The event on approach may have
been a latent effect from the earlier jamming, for which an MMR reset in cruise may have prevented. But it is also possible that
there was some transient jamming from a handheld device that affected the aircraft on approach. Since January 2015 there have
been reports of loss of GPS signal, and CoNOTAMs were promulgated for areas subject to such events. Preventative maintenance
actions have been put in place to reset MMRs after GPS jamming events, and EKIB-65 issued to 777 flight crew, followed by the GPS
Signal Interference NNC on 09/09/2021, which affect the 777 only. A Safety Issue has been raised for wider issues surrounding GPS
spoofing.
