“RAMADAN KAREEM”
(Health & Safety During in Ram adan )

Ramadan is a special time for everyone. Achieving general


safety during the holy month of Ramadan is one of the very
important matter, weather it is in the home, or workplace or
markets or on the road etc. Health concern during Ramadan
the diet and sleep habits will get disturbed as a result
Personnel may feel tired, headache, faint or light -headed,
hunger, loss of concentration or restless at different times of
the day.
The main safety concerns affecting fasting workers during their holy month of Ramadan are:
Dehydration
Those who are fasting do not eat or drink
anything, even water. Effects of dehydration
can range from mild (a headache) to severe
(heat stroke).

Low Blood Sugar


Fasting can cause hypoglycemia, with
symptoms of confusion, slurred speech and
fainting
Fatigue
Evening prayer and social activities associated
with Ramadan can contribute to fatigue during
work shifts
Motor Vehicle Accident
Workers are at greater risk for an off -the-job
traffic crash during Ramadan. This is a great
time to remind everyone to drive the speed
limit, buckle up and don’t drive when tired or
distracted
Elementary Mitigation Measures:
 Fasting employees shall perform ligh t duty only under shaded, cool
and well ventilated areas.
 The following category of fasting employees need to be advised for
taking rest:

Elementary Mitigation Measures cont.:


 Take adequate rest in air-conditioned rooms.
 There shall not be any work com pulsion or targets for fasting
employees.
 When feel drowsy tak e nap for an hour or two after informing your
supervisor.
 Convey to your supervisor if you are not feeling good to work for
that day or for the particular task.
 Work with your Team / Crew members to help each other when
feeling tired (buddy system).

 When You don’t get adequate sleep, it accumulates a sleep debt
that has been linked to health problems such as blood pressure,
negative mood and behavior, decreased productivity, and safety
issues on the job, therefore if one nigh t you don’t get much sleep ,
try to make up for it the next nigh t.
 Drink a lo t of water from Iftar to Suhour.
 Remember that Soda or juice does not substitute WATER

Non-Fasting Staff / Workers


In UAE, Ramadan is legally mandated, not just a matter of
religious choice. While fasting isn't mandatory, but it's important
to honor and respect the traditions associated with it.
Keep in Mind during Ramadan:
 Avoid consuming food, drink, or smoking in public during fasting hours out
of respect for those observing Ramadan.
 Try not to smoke. If you really must, find a private place
 Avoid arguments with those who are fastin g.
 Dress modestly, especially in public areas , to show respect for the customs
of the country and the religious significance of Ramadan.
 Avoid loud noises or disruptions, particularly during early morning hours,
to ensure minimal disturbance to those observing pre -dawn meals or
prayers.
