STORY.

Plot: "The Great Gatsby" is a novel written by F. Scott Fitzgerald, first published in 1925. The
story is set in the Roaring Twenties, a period of great social and cultural change in the United
States.

The story follows Jay Gatsby, a mysterious millionaire, and his pursuit of Daisy Buchanan, a
married woman he once loved, and this is narrated through the eyes of Nick Carraway. The
novel explores the idea of the American Dream as Gatsby amasses his wealth in the hope of
winning Daisy back, believing that he can recreate the past. Throughout the book, Fitzgerald
delves into the themes of excess, moral decay, and the illusion of the American Dream. The
characters in the novel are often driven by their desires, and their lives are marked by
decadence and a sense of emptiness.

Theme: The novel is often considered a classic of American literature and explores themes of
wealth, decadence, love, and the American Dream.

Jay Gatsby is driven by the belief that with enough wealth and determination, he can achieve
his dream of winning back his lost love, Daisy, and recreating a romantic past. The novel raises
questions about the attainability and the corruption of the American Dream.

The story takes place during the Jazz Age, a period of opulence and extravagance. It delves into
the distinctions between old money and new money, and the characters' social standing and
wealth are significant factors in their interactions and relationships.

Fitzgerald paints a picture of a society marked by moral and social decay. The characters
engage in deceit, infidelity, and reckless behavior, and the novel portrays the emptiness and
disillusionment that can result from such a lifestyle.

The novel explores the contrast between appearances and reality. Characters often present
themselves in a certain way to mask their true selves or to fit into the societal norms of the
time.
Love is a central theme in the novel, particularly Gatsby's obsessive love for Daisy. This theme
explores the idea of unrequited love and the lengths people are willing to go to for the object
of their affection.

CHARACTERS.

 Jay Gatsby, Nick Carraway, Daisy Buchanan, Tom Buchanan, Jordan Baker, Myrtle
Wilson, George Wilson.
 In my point of view, Daisy is a very interesting character, since she is “trapped” in her
feelings for Gatsby and the comfort and security of her marriage all at the same time.
 I identify more with Nick, since I tend to help my fiends any time they need something,
like he does with Gatsby.
 I personally think that Gatsby’s experience is mainly teaching that you shouldn’t get
with another person’s couple, despite the fact you love them, because it can cause
trouble, not only for the 3 of you but for others as well.
