Leadership Style & Philosophy

Completing the leadership self-assessment helped me to see and understand areas of

leadership that I could work on throughout my Master of Educational Leadership program that

will help me become the leader that I hope to be. Three areas of leadership that I would like to

work on and strengthen are the ability to sustain a school culture and instructional program that

is conducive to student learning and the ability to develop and supervise the instructional and

leadership capacity of a school. Another area that I would like to work on is monitoring the

management of the school and resources, and stronger ability to collaborate with school personal

and community members to make the school more efficient and on the path to success (GCU,

2023) . The reason I chose these standards of leadership to work on throughout my program is I

believe these standards will help me to become a school leader who has the school and the

success of the school as my focal point.

In the state of Florida there are different routes that can be taken when it comes to school

leadership. In my desires for a future leadership position, I am only working toward becoming an

instructional coach on a school campus. I am not planning to go into the administration portion

currently. In the future that may change so right now I don’t believe I will need licensure to work

as an instructional coach for reading, math and science on an elementary school campus. I

believe the requirements is to complete a master’s program in educational leadership and then I

can apply to be placed in the coaching pool in my school district.

After doing some research the professional organization and journals, the organizations

that I would like to subscribe to would be the Florida Association for School Administrators and

the Florida Organization of Instructional Leaders also known as FOIL. Some of the journals that

I might be interested in subscribing to soon are, the American Journal of Education and the
3

Journal of Educational Supervision. I think these organizations and journals would provide some

articles and opportunities to help build professional development as I work as a school leader in

my district. Being a school leader is something that takes courage, dedication and positive

attitude. I have worked in the education field for almost 10 years, and I am looking forward to

my future in a leadership position on a school campus.
