ABOUT THE POLITICAL SPACE OF ONDO STATE

Despite the sudden demise of the late governor of Ondo State on the 27th of December 2023, and
the impromptu transition of power to the present administration, the state is relatively stable as at
March 2024 just 3 months after these incidents. According to news articles written by the
leadership news dated 13th March 2024, the Governor has ordered all contractors back to site,
paid all salaries as at when due, and paid substantial parts of gratuity while employment is
currently going on in various aspects of the state's civil service.
Ondo State governor, Hon. Lucky Aiyedatiwa, on Tuesday, officially declared his intention to
contest the 2024 governorship election in the state, saying his former boss, late Governor Rotimi
Akeredolu, would be proud of him as a worthy successor.

Although the political space of Ondo state is subject to change, with many strong candidates in
the running and with the primaries not conducted yet, the general notion in the state is that the
people are pandering towards the current governor who was the deputy to the late Governor. This
is mainly because he has been able to stabilize the state within this short period as well as being
acting governor twice.
the Independent National Electoral Commission has fixed November 16, 2024, for the Ondo
State governorship election, and April 6 to 27, 2024 for party primaries.
