Week 4 – Inter-VLAN’s

- To communicate between VLAN networks, we need either a level 3 switch or a router. This is
so we can set a default gateway to tell data where it’s going
- Legacy inter-VLAN requires the same number of physical ports as VLAN’s. This essentially
eliminates the benefit of scalability and is no longer used in industry.
- Router on a stick method uses 1 router and 1 port on the router (remember that the
connection between a switch and router for inter VLAN’s must be a trunk port)
- Trunk ports transmit ALL VLAN data, whilst other ports must be configured appropriately
