What I Need to Know

This module was designed and written with you in mind. It is here to help you master
checking of wheel alignment and how to use Wheel Alignment Machine. The scope of
this module permits it to be used in many different learning situations. The language
used recognizes the diverse vocabulary level of students. The lessons are arranged to
follow the standard sequence of the course. But the order in which you read them can
be changed to correspond with the textbook you are now using.

The module focused on lesson;

• Lesson 7 – PERFORM WHEEL ALIGNMENT

After going through this module, you are expected to:

• Check tire pressure and wear
• preparation of vehicle on the alignment machine.
• Check alignment and adjustment camber angle.

What I Know

Multiple Choice. Choose the letter of the best answer. Write the chosen letter on a
separate sheet of paper.

PERFORM WHEEL
1 ALIGNMENT

Wheel alignment

1. Camber – camber is the angle between the vertical axis of the wheels and the vertical axis
of the vehicle when viewed from front.

2
2. Caster – caster is the vertical angle of the steered wheel from its steering axis. The red
line represent the steering axis while the grey line represent the axis of wheel. the zero
represent the default or neutral caster axis of the wheel.

3. Toe – toe angle is the angle of the wheel from the longitudinal length of the vehicle when
viewed from the top. Toe out means the direction of the wheel is more directed outside
while toe in means the direction of the wheel is toward the center front of the vehicle.

8. Based on the aligning machine’s measurement, adjust toe first.

9. First remove wheel so you can locate and easily reach in the tie rod.
10. Tie rod has Jam Nut between its outer and inner tie rod.
11. Loosen the Jam Nut, and rotate inner tie rod. Inner tie rod has flat surfaces where you can
attach your proper size wrench and rotate it. Rotating it counter clockwise will push the
wheel and decrease the negative toe angle.

adjust according to the Wheel Alignment requirement. Then lock jam nut into place.
Do it to both front wheel.

What’s More

After Wheel alignment

1. Measure tire pressure

2. Perform a test drive and check the steering balance, if the vehicle is
pulling to one side, you must re-adjust wheel alignment.

5
What I Have Learned

• How to check tire pressure and wear

• Prepare vehicle on alignment machine.
• Check alignment and adjustment camber angle.
