What I need to Know

Welcome to Module 2 of Computer Systems Servicing! This module is one of the

core competency of CSS course specifically for “Installing and Configuring Computer
Systems (ICCS)”. Also, this module is suitable for students who are aiming for the
Computer System Servicing course in Grade 11 up to Grade 12 and pursue the National
Certification Level II which is offered by TESDA.
The main objective of this module is to help you gain knowledge and basic
competencies in Computer Systems Servicing specifically “Assemble Computer
Hardware”. This module in CSS NCII training teaches you everything you need to know
to become a Computer Technician based on TESDA competency standard.
The module is divided into four learning outcomes:
➢ LO1 - Assemble computer in accordance with established procedures and system
requirements
Content Standards
The learner demonstrates understanding of principles in installing and configuring
computer systems.
Performance Standard
The learner shall be able to install and configure computer systems based on
established procedures and system requirements.
Enjoy and Happy Learning.
After going through this module, you are expected to:
• Identify computer components, input, and output devices
• Assemble computer hardware

What’s New

Lesson Parts of Computer, Input/output devices

2

The basic parts of a desktop computer are the computer case,

monitor, keyboard, mouse, and power cord. Each part plays an important
role whenever you use a computer.
Computer Input and Output Devices

3
The devices attached to a personal computer can be classified into two- the input and
output devices.
Input Devices:
Input devices allow the user to communicate with the computer by entering data or
commands.
➢ Keyboard – primary input device used to input alphanumeric data and
commands to the computer
➢ Mouse – primary input device used to navigate and interact with the monitor
output
➢ Scanner – scans documents and converts them digitally, which can be edited on
a computer.
➢ Webcam – small cameras attached to a monitor or desk that record or broadcast
video
➢ Joystick – device used to control video games, aside from the keyboard.

➢ Touch screen- A display screen that is sensitive to the touch of a finger or

stylus.
➢ A light-sensitive stylus wired to a video terminal used to draw pictures

➢ Digitizer Tablet - A graphics drawing tablet used for sketching new images or
tracing old ones.

➢ Voice- Input Devices - Audio input devices also known as speech or voice
recognition systems.

Output Devices:
Output devices enable the computer to show the processed data and information
understandably to the user.
➢ Computer Display Monitor- It displays information in visual form, using text
and graphics.

➢ LCD Projectors- utilize two sheets of polarizing material with a liquid crystal
solution between them.

➢ Smart Board - A type of display screen that has a touch sensitive transparent
panel covering the screen, which is like a touch screen.

➢ Printer - A device that prints text or illustrations on paper.

3
➢ Speakers - Used to play sound. They may be built into the
system unit or connected with cables.

What I Can Do

You have learned about the different input and output devices and how to
assemble computer hardware. For your mini task you must assemble computer
hardware using recyclable material to represent the different computer parts. Document
each and make a mini portfolio by capturing each step that you make during the
making.
