Special Tools

EN-470-B Angular Torque Wrench

For equivalent regional tools, refer to Special Tools

1. Using a suitable drift and a hammer, install a NEW clutch pilot bearing. (1)

2. Apply clean engine oil to the crankshaft bearings.


3. Install a NEW bearing. (4) @ Engine Block [5x]
4. Install a NEW bearing. (4) @ Crankshaft Bearing Cap (2) » [5x]
Note: Install the thrust washers with the oil grooves towards the crankshaft.
5. Apply clean engine oil to the 2 NEW thrust washers and install to the engine block.
6. Apply clean engine oil to the 8 NEW bearing shells and install to the connecting rod caps and
connecting rods.
7. Apply clean engine oil to the crankshaft journals.
8. Crankshaft (3) » Install
Note: Install the crankshaft bearing caps in the proper location and direction.
9. Crankshaft Bearing Cap (2) » Install [5x]
Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution .
Note: Do not tighten the bolts at this stage.
10. Install the NEW crankshaft bearing cap bolts. (1) [10x]
11. Tap the crankshaft main bearing caps with a soft-faced hammer.
12. Crankshaft Bearing Cap Bolt (1) » Tighten [10x]
12.1. Stage one: Tighten the bolts to 20 Nm (15 lb ft) .
12.2. Stage two: Tighten the bolts again to 20 Nm (15 lb ft) .
12.3. Stage three: Tighten the bolts a further 60 degrees ± 4 degrees using the EN-470-B
wrench.

Note: Before the crankshaft end float can be measured, the crankshaft must be positioned toward
the timing end of the engine block to remove any free play.
13. Measure the crankshaft end play.
13.1. Position the pointer of a dial indicator (commercially available) onto the crankshaft flange.
13.2. Set the pointer to (0) ZERO.
13.3. Using a suitable tool, gently force the crankshaft toward the flywheel end of the engine block.
13.4. Record the readings.
13.5. Replace the thrust washers if necessary. Engine Mechanical Specifications .
