RCS Trainer 1 Introduction

1 Introduction

1.1 General
This document contains the information you w ill need to set up and run the softw are on
a computer or laptop belonging to an Epiroc netw ork, and understand the functionality
of the same. The information should be read before installing and using the softw are.

RCS Trainer is intended to be used as a view er, w here each menu can be displayed in
an environment outside the real machine. This means that the machine softw are is
alw ays accessible w ithout losing valuable production time.
Once a program package is added into RCS Trainer, any configuration file compatible
to that program version, can be added. This also applies for parameter files, w hich
means that exactly the same softw are w ith the same settings as the real machine can
be view ed w ithin this tool.
This softw are is a tool for both different kinds of training as w ell as customer support.
Below , some examples of applications are described.

1.2 Operator training


RCS Trainer can be used for new operators to get acquainted w ith the interface and to
learn the menu structure and the different symbols and settings.
This tool can also be used as a part of a simulator operator training before, or included in,
the training

1.3 Technical training


For training service technicians, the RCS Trainer can be used as an aid w hen explaining
the different settings and parameters as w ell as optional functionalities.

1.4 Service support


RCS Trainer can also be used for remote support. Once the configuration file and the
parameters for a machine are added to the tool, it is possible to view the exact menus and
settings as in the real machine. This w ill simplify the communication during guidance and
troubleshooting.

2 Getting started

2.1 Install RCS Trainer


Before a RCS Machine Softw are can be started in RCS Trainer the steps below need to be
taken. Each step is described in more detail in the follow ing sections.
1. Install RCS Trainer on your computer or laptop
2. Activate program license
3. Add program version softw are
4. Add RCS machine softw are
5. Transfer Files to RCS machine softw are (optional)
6. Start RCS machine softw are
RCS Trainer is supported by Window s 10 and Window s 7. To dow nload it follow below
steps.
1. Go to MRS Home, select Learning / Training offering / Training tools / Softw are
2. Click on the valid version to dow nload.
3. Save the program and follow the on screen information to install the softw are on your
computer or laptop.

! NOTE: If you already have an older version of RCS Trainer installed, you will get a
question if you want to migrate the installed program packages and machines .

! NOTE: Depending on your personal settings regarding administration rights on your


computer or laptop, your local IT department might have to install the software.

2.2 Activate program license


To get access to RCS Trainer, you need to use either a hardw are key or a server license.
If a hardw are key is not inserted the first time the program is started, a dialog box
requesting a server w ill appear. When clicking the “Server…” button, follow ing dialog is
show n:

2.2.1 Server license


To use a server license:

1. Mark the box “Use server key if local key doesn’t exist”
2. Enter host name “tmgssels02” and click “OK”

To view or change your server license, go to menu “View ” and select “License
Server Settings”.

2.2.2 Hardware key license


To use a hardw are key license you have to insert a hardw are key, programmed to support
RCS Trainer, into one of the USB outlets on your computer or laptop.
The softw are supports hardw are keys of Rockey brand.

! NOTE: If you already have a hardware key, it can be programmed to also support
RCS Trainer. To do so, contact mrs.academy@epiroc.com

! NOTE: Your local IT-department might have to install the hardware key before it can
function properly.

2.2.3 Offline license


Once you have a server license or a hardw are key license, it is possible to use RCS
Trainer also offline. Follow the steps below to create an offline version:
1. Go to menu “View ” and select sub menu “License Information”.
2. Click on “Offline License” and then “Create Offline License” in the below dialog box
that appears

3. Another dialog box w ill confirm that a 30 days offline license is created and
information about the license w ill appear in the “License Information” dialog. In this
dialog the offline license can also be renew ed and/or removed by clicking on the
relevant button.

2.3 Main view

The main view of RCS Trainer consists of tw o separate w indow s. To the left, all available
and selected product lines and machine families are show n in a structure tree. It can be
temporary modified by clicking the arrow next to the product line, to collapse or expand the
tree.
To the right, all added machines in the selected product line or machine family is show n.
The information for each machine is captured in a number of columns, described in the
table below .

Colum n Description
The number of the machine, as stated in the
Machine Number
configuration file
The number of the configuration version, the higher
Config Version
number, the later version. This helps to keep the
machines separate from each other w hen the same
machine is added more than ones.
The name, manually typed, w hen adding the machine.
Machine Name
The version of the program softw are, w hich the
Program Version machine is added to
The product family, w hich the machine is added to
Machine Family
Ow n comment, manually typed, w hen adding the
Comments

The date, w hich the machine w as added.

2.3.1 Manage view


By marking a product line or a machine family in the left tree view , only the machines
installed in this product line or machine family, are show n in the right list view .

In menu View – Options…, the product lines of interest can be selected. Only the product
lines w ith a ticked box w ill be show n in the left tree view .

2.4 Add program version software package


1. Go to the w eb site from w here RCS Trainer w as dow nloaded, see link in section 2.1.
2. Select the program version you w ish to dow nload in the “RCS version” column, see all
available program packages on the w eb site. Save the package locally on your drive.
3. Start RCS Trainer, go to menu “Edit” and select “Add Program Version”.
4. Select the Product Line and Machine Family that the program version belongs to, in
the dialog box.
5. Brow se for the zip file containing the program package you w ish to add and click
“OK”.

2.4.1 Manage program versions


This is the only menu w here you can see all added program versions before you have
added a machine to them.
1. Go to menu “Edit” and select sub menu “Manage Program Versions”.

2. To delete one or more program packages, mark the box in front of each program
package and click on “Delete selected”.

2.5 Add RCS machine software


In this step you can choose to add any configuration file in Bv4-format that is compatible
w ith the program version added in the previous step. This means that a configuration for a
real machine can be added to ease remote support. If no such configuration file is
available, you can choose to dow nload one from the w eb site from w here RCS Trainer 2.2
w as dow nloaded. Follow step 1-2 in section 2.3 Add Program Version, but select a link in
the “Configuration” column instead, then continue w ith the steps below .

1. Go to menu “Edit” and select “Add machine”. Follow ing dialog box w ill appear.

2. Enter “Machine Name” and “Comment” in the dialog box, for the machine you intend
to add
3. Select “Product Line”, “Machine Family” and “Program Version”.
4. Brow se for the Bv4-file containing the configuration for the machine you w ish to add,
see all available RCS machine softw are on the w eb site.

NOTE: Click on the button “Show Needed Files” to view which files and which format to
! search for and upload.

2.5.1 Manage machines


There are tw o w ays to manage the installed machines. Either in the list, or from a menu.
By marking a machine in the list and right click, available options are show n.

Edit m achine: Machine name and Comment columns can be edited.

Delete m achine: Selected machine w ill be deleted.

Change program version:The program version for the selected machine can be
changed. All compatible program versions for the specific
machine are show n in a drop dow n list.

To delete several machines at the same time, follow the instructions below .

1. Go to menu “Edit” and select sub menu “Manage Machines”.

2. To delete one or more machines, mark the box in front of each machine and click on
“Delete selected”.

2.6 Database
2.6.1 Export database
It is possible to share all program versions and machine configurations installed in the
RCS Trainer, w ith a colleague or if computer or laptop is replaced. To do so, the database
can be exported by follow ing the steps below .

1. Go to menu Edit – Database – Export database

2. Brow se to the location w here to store the zip-file, w hich w ill be created, enter a file
name and click “Save”

2.6.2 Import database


Program versions and machine configurations can be imported to RCS Trainer by
follow ing the steps below .

1. Go to menu Edit – Database – Import Database


2. Brow se to the location w here the zip-file w ith the database is stored. Select the file
and click “Open”.

3. Select to replace or merge the existing program versions and machine configurations
before importing a database. When replace is selected, all previously installed data
w ill be deleted. When merge is selected, all existing and imported softw are packages
and machine configurations are combined. If the same program version and machine
configuration exist in both databases, the existing one w ill not be replaced.

4. All new machines w ill be visible in the list of installed machines, and all new program
versions w ill be available in the view Manage program versions.

2.6.3 Clear database


All program versions and machine configurations can be deleted from RCS Trainer by
follow ing the steps below .

1. Go to menu Edit – Database – Clear Database

2. A w arning dialog w ill appear, w ith a chance to cancel the selection or to continue.

3. Upon selection to continue, the list w ith installed machines w ill disappear and all
program versions w ill be deleted.

2.7 File transfer


1. Select and mark the machine, for w hich you w ant to load the file to.
2. Click on the “File transfer” button and follow ing dialog w indow w ill appear.

3. Brow se for the file in the left w indow of the dialog w indow .
4. Click on “Copy To Machine” button or “Move To Machine” button to transfer the file.

NOTE: There are no parameter files or drill plan files available. To use this function you
! have to use a file you already have.

2.7.1 Export files


To export a file from a machine, you proceed the same w ay, but mark the file in the right
w indow and click on “Copy From Machine” button or “Move From Machine” button to
transfer the file.

3 RCS machine software

3.1 Start
Select machine in the list and click the “Start” button below . This action w ill open a
separate w indow , w here the RCS machine softw are is displayed.

3.2 Log in
1. Go to the main menu, if not there from the beginning.
2. Select access level in the table below and enter the corresponding pass code w ith
the arrow keys.
3. Press enter to log in.

Available access levels

Access level Pass code Pass code RCS

OP (Operator level) Up, Up, Up 2,2,2

SE (Service level) Right, Right, Right 3,3,3

AC (Epiroc service level) Left, Left, Left 1,1,1

! NOTE: For the Surface Drilling Equipment with control system RSP, numbers are
used for the pass code. For the correct pass codes for those machines, use the right
column in the table below.

3.3 Stop RCS machine software


To end the session, click on the “Stop” button. This action w ill close dow n all open
w indow s of the machine softw are.

For information regarding the menus for each machine softw are, look for the relevant
section in the regular machine manuals.
