Hipot Test

The document provides work method details for performing a high potential (hipot) test on electrical switchgear. Key steps include: 1. Authorized personnel will perform the test while safety officers witness and verify. 2. The hipot test will apply high voltage to determine if leakage current occurs. 3. Test equipment will be set up and the area secured with safety signs. Insulation resistance tests will be conducted before and after applying the high test voltages.

WORK METHOD STATEMENT

Detail of Work HIPOT TEST NSPB

Date 01 – 03 - 2024 Location
ELECTRICAL ROOM 2
No Sequence of Work
1. General Requirements
- HV test must be conducted by authorised personnel
- Safety officers and commissioning personnel must witness and verify.
- All personnel involved must be authorised to enter the site.
2. Purpose
- The purpose of the HV test is to determine if there is leakage current during the voltage test.
3. Preparation
- HV test equipment must be placed on the side of the Switchgear to be tested.
- All CT secondary terminals must be removed and isolated.
- Secure the test area with safety signs (warning board/horn/etc).
- Make sure the test area is clean.
- Provide Power Supply for Hi-pot test equipment.
4. Testing steps
- Prepare drawings and tools.
- Safety Coordinate with the personnel involved about the scope of work.
- Remove all equipment that can be damaged by the HV test.
- Secure the test area for safety.
- Make sure the test area is clean.
- Perform Insulation Resistance test for 1 minute per test point before HV test.
- Discharge the residual voltage on the object to ground using a grounding stick.
- Perform DC/AC HV test and increase voltage slowly until the voltage reaches 22.4kV . Monitor
for Leakage at intervals until nominal test value is reached.
- Nominal DC Hi-pot voltage is 3 x Un (Phase to Neutral), duration 10 minutes per test point.
Refers to IEC-60298, IEC-60694.
- Nominal Voltage for AC Hi-pot test is 80% of the voltage value on the object, duration 10
minutes per test point. Refer to IEC 62271-200: 2003.
- Record the leakage current value every 1 minute.
- After 10 minutes, reduce the low voltage slowly to zero and then switch off the HV test.
- Discharge the residual voltage on the Object to Ground using a grounding stick.
- Perform the Insulation Resistance test for 1 minute per test point after the HV test.
- Discharge the residual voltage on the object to the ground using a grounding stick.
- Record everything on the form provided
Equipment, tools and machinery to be used :

- HIPOT TOOLS
- MEGGER TOOLS
