Today talk shows are very popular but are we really aware of its scope? The sets of documents
consists of two texts and a political cartoon: the first one name’s “The talk shows we love: Dignity
crushing machines” was made by The Conversation and published in September 11th in 2023, it is
about the bad sides of talk shows and their impacts. The second one “News, entertainment, or both?”
published by The Institute for Police Research the 30th of October in 2019, is on a survey made by a
media scholar to determine if it can be considered as news or just entertainment. The third one, a
political cartoon with Barack Obama, was published in 2016, the designer is surely Stilglick, and he
criticizes politician’s hypocrisy. We will ask ourselves to what extend do talk shows have an impact
on the United States.

I think a lot of us find talk shows funny and harmless but in reality on the hidden surface it can
destroy the dignity and the career of the guests. Sometimes the production or the host can make
choices which can be humiliated for the guest but it can also make him uncomfortable like revealing
compromising information just for money, to gain notoriety and to entertain the audience.
Some pundits have made a survey to ask Americans opinions about different types of
interviewers: a correspondent, a combatant and a comic one. And if they think that their programs are
made to entertain, to inform or both. They have showed them three videos, one for each interviewers
and people found at 81% that the comic one is a mix between news and entertainment. Some of them
even considered them as fake news. The way Americans see the news are also influenced by politics,
because they follow their favorite politician position on what is news ant what is not.
On the cartoon the former president states that his job is a serious matter while being a TV
host is easy, nut right after he seems happier and he announces that he will be on two talk shows. The
cartoonist denounces the hypocrisy of the politicians. Just too woo their audience they appear on talk
show but right after they start to criticize the media.

In conclusion talk shows are very famous because it is a mix between entertainment and
news. But it’s also influent because politicians make appearance to court the audience. It can be very
harmful for some people like the celebrities (the guests) so we should be careful.
