1. Consider the equilibrium system:

2 NOBr (g) ⇌ 2 NO (g) + Br2 (g)
At a 298K, analysis of the equilibrium mixture finds that the concentrations of bromine gas is 3.0 mol/L and the
concentration nitrogen monoxide is 2.33 mol/L. If the Kc value is 4.89, what is the concentration of NOBr at
equilibrium? (4 T)

2. When wine spoils, ethanol is oxidized to acetic acid as oxygen from the air dissolves in the wine.
C2H5OH (aq) + O2 (aq) ⇌ CH3COOH (aq) + H2O (ℓ)
The value of Keq for this reaction at 298K is 1.2 x 1082. Will there be much ethanol remaining when the reaction
has reached equilibrium? Explain. (2A)

3. Phosphoryl chloride, POCl3(g), is used in the manufacturing of flame retardants. It is manufactured in an
equilibrium process in which phosphorus trichloride reacts with nitrogen dioxide to form POCl3(g)and NO(g)
according to the following equation:
PCl3 (g) + NO2 (g) ⇌ POCl3 (g) + NO (g)

The Keq for this reaction at 800 Kc is 3.88. If 1.35 mol PCl3 (g) and 1.74 mol NO2 (g) are placed into a 2.5 L
container, how many moles will there be of each gas when the reaction reaches equilibrium (13 T)
PCl3 (g) + NO2 (g) ⇌ POCl3 (g) + NO(g) Kc = 3.88
