CARBOXYLIC ACIDS ARE A LARGE GROUP OF MOLECULES
THAT HAVE A CARBON ATOM THAT IS BONDED TO TWO
OXYGEN ATOMS. OF THESE TWO OXYGEN ATOMS, ONE IS
ALONE, AND THE OTHER IS COMBINED WITH A HYDROGEN.

UPAC names carboxylic acids by
replacing the -ano termination of the
alkane with the same number of carbons
by -oico.
Rule 2
When the acid has
substituents, the longest
chain is numbered by giving
the lowest locator to the
carbon of the acid group.
Carboxylic acids are given
priority over other groups,
which are then named as
substituents

priority over alkenes and
