Kathlyn: Philippine music is rich beyond compare. Most Filipinos, however, do not know this wealth, victims
as they are of a broadcast media that propagates Western, particularly American entertainment music, day in
and day out. If ever music written by Filipinos is given a chance to be heard, it is ninety percent of the cheap
pop variety copied or adapted from foreign hits. Our young people hear almost nothing of the creative music
of the people of Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao. The vast output of our serious composers, who ironically are
mostly Manila-based, is also unknown to them. There is a pressing need to bring Philippine music closer to
our people: strong identification of our music is vital in bringing our people together or unifying the nation.

Joana: Several Filipino Composers have shown excellence in the field of songwriting

Marian: Here are some Filipino composers Jose Maceda with his dedication to his field of work, made a
collection of recorded music taken from remote mountain villages all over the Philippines. Lucrecia
Kasilang, Kasilang was famous for creating a unique musical sound for Filipino Ramos Santos, his
compositional style involved environmental works, non-conventional instruments, and the incorporation
of natural forces in the execution of creating sound Josefino Toledo his music composition is described as
"pure and powerful". He fuses contemporary Western music ideas and Southeast Asian Actors.

Yvan: conductor Chino Toledo’s music has been described as "pure and powerful", and cited for its
fusion of contemporary western language and Southeast Asian aesthetics. Music critic Rosalinda Orosa
described Toledo as “a composer-conductor of considerable worth” and an ingenious, remarkably
original composer of singular creativity and imagination.” His music is characterized by great energy and
often bears a relationship to the traditional music of Southeast Asia.
Toledo’s works also include music for theater, films, scoring libraries, orchestrations and
arrangements for different performing forces, and revisions and editing of Philippine Sarsuwelas.
