We live in a world where there are those who may be less fortunate with us.

Earlier in

2016 on the news, we saw young undocumented immigrant children being taken away

from their parents. How would you all feel if you were taken away from your loved ones?

You would feel absolutely terrible and would feel as if there was no way to remove the

cloud of sadness that rained over your head.

The following reasons I ask for your votes when it comes to negation/affirmation of

Senator ________’s legislation for the following two reasons: one, sanctuary cities are

legal, and, two, sanctuary cities protect undocumented immigrants against federal

immigration laws for the better.

My first reason, Senators, sanctuary cities are in fact, legal. While the White House may

think sanctuary cities are illegal and unconstitutional, they really aren’t. Allow me to

explain: According to the Penn Graduate Law Journal, they report that the main belief

comes from states opting out because states are choosing not to use their resources to

help federal agents identify, possibly deport, and document undocumented immigrants.

Andrew Napolitano, who is a constitutional law expert has given reports on the New

York Times and Washington Times which explains that the 10th Amendment of the

United States Constitution relates to the Immigrant Legal Resource Center which the

addition of the Amendment prevents the government to use resources to enforce a federal

regulatory program such as immigration. Thus meaning Congress cannot prevent state
and local governments from collecting the status of immigrants because the data are

never fully given the capability to collected.

My second reason, Senators, they protect undocumented immigrants against federal

immigration laws for the better.

Earlier in 2016, we saw in the news that Trump made it more than clear that he doesn’t

have a problem with his intentions to deport undocumented immigrants, including

families and children. Those children had lost their families and in the current day of

2018 according to Miriam Jordan, who is the national immigration correspondent,

children of immigrants were placed up for adoption. With sanctuary cities, those

undocumented immigrated parents and children won’t need to fear of being separated

from one another.

Shouldn’t it be time for someone to stand up for the families that are separated from one

another? Isn’t it time to realize that it’s better to keep Sanctuary cities for the better of our

nation to keep us safe as well? It is for the following reasons that I today ask you to

affirm/negate this legislation, Senators: one, Sanctuary cities are legal; and, two, they

protect undocumented immigrants against federal immigration laws for the better.
