 Based on the Nutritional Status chart the number of severely wasted students for the past
three years has been increasing. The severely wasted students are undernourished mainly
because of insufficient financial support from their families, health conditions, eating habits,
and illiteracy, due to these conditions there is a great impact on the student’s academic
performance. To address this problem we came up with the program GARFENE (Garden-based
Feeding and Nutrition Education.
To improve the Nutritional Status and classroom attendance of students, the enhanced
school garden that promotes the production of food rich in protein, carbohydrates, Vitamin A,
iron, and other nutritious food are being supplied to the feeding program, however, the links
between school garden and feeding program are not strongly established, there is also a need
of nutrition intervention. Nutrition education will be given to parents and students, it aids to
promote household food production, proper consumption of nutritious food like vegetables,
proper diet, and other health habits. Nutrition education serves a vital role in improving the
health condition of the learners to achieve academic excellence.
