aim of this study was to investigate the suicidal ideation in relation to the total level of self-esteem
among first year junior students. To achieve the goals of the study, a suicidal ideation questionnaire
(SIQ) which was developed by the researcher the Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale were used. The
sample consisted of 302 male and female students. The results indicated a low level of suicidal
ideation among university students. More specifically, factors that influenced students' suicidal ideation
were identified as those of psychological, sociological, physical health, family in addition to economic
ones. Furthermore, the study reported that there was a significant positive relationship between
suicidal ideation and the selfesteem level among students. As such, students with high self-esteem
