Scripture- Matt. 15:21-28
Jesus left that place and went away to the district of Tyre and Sidon. Just then a Canaanite
woman from that region came out and started shouting, "Have mercy on me, Lord, Son of David;
my daughter is tormented by a demon." But he did not answer her at all. And his disciples came
and urged him, saying, "Send her away, for she keeps shouting after us." He answered, "I was
sent only to the lost sheep of the house of Israel." But she came and knelt before him, saying,
"Lord, help me." He answered, "It is not fair to take the children's food and throw it to the dogs."
She said, "Yes, Lord, yet even the dogs eat the crumbs that fall from their masters' table." Then
Jesus answered her, "Woman, great is your faith! Let it be done for you as you wish." And her
daughter was healed instantly.
Mediation/Motivation
Here we see a Canaanite woman coming to Jesus to ask Him to heal her daughter who was
possessed by a demon. In this reading we see her great faith in asking for her child to be healed.
On first asking, Jesus did not answer her but she continued asking. From this we can learn that
we should always and continually bring our requests to God even when He does not answer us.
Collect
O God, whose blessed Son came into the world that he might destroy the works of the devil and
make us children of God and heirs of eternal life: Grant that, having this hope, we may purify
ourselves as he is pure; that, when he comes again with power and great glory, we may be made
like him in his eternal and glorious kingdom; where he lives and reigns with you and the Holy
Spirit, one God, forever and ever. Amen

Scripture- Matt. 16:1-12
The Pharisees and Sadducees came, and to test Jesus they asked him to show them a sign from
heaven. He answered them, "When it is evening, you say, 'It will be fair weather, for the sky is
red.' And in the morning, 'It will be stormy today, for the sky is red and threatening.' You know
how to interpret the appearance of the sky, but you cannot interpret the signs of the times. An
evil and adulterous generation asks for a sign, but no sign will be given to it except the sign of
Jonah." Then he left them and went away. When the disciples reached the other side, they had
forgotten to bring any bread. Jesus said to them, "Watch out, and beware of the yeast of the
Pharisees and Sadducees." They said to one another, "It is because we have brought no bread."
And becoming aware of it, Jesus said, "You of little faith, why are you talking about having no
bread? Do you still not perceive? Do you not remember the five loaves for the five thousand, and
how many baskets you gathered? Or the seven loaves for the four thousand, and how many
baskets you gathered? How could you fail to perceive that I was not speaking about bread?
Beware of the yeast of the Pharisees and Sadducees!" Then they understood that he had not told
them to beware of the yeast of bread, but of the teaching of the Pharisees and Sadducees.
