Worksheet: Introducing Yourself as a Psychology Enthusiast

Activity 1: Speaking Practice

Instructions:

Read the dialogue between Nahira and Mark.

Practice reading each line aloud, trying to pronounce the words clearly.
Once you feel comfortable, role-play the conversation.

Dialogue:

Nahira: Hi, I'm Nahira. I have two kids. I'm studying psychology because it helps us
understand people better.

Mark: Hi, Nahira! I'm Mark. Psychology sounds interesting. Can you tell me more?

Nahira: Sure! Psychology is about why we think and act the way we do. It's like
looking inside our minds to see how they work.

Mark: Wow, cool! Do we learn to act a certain way, or is it natural?

Nahira: It's both. Sometimes we learn from others, like saying "thank you." But
sometimes, we just feel things, like being happy or scared.

Mark: Got it. Are there different kinds of psychology?

Nahira: Yes! There's helping people with feelings ( that's clinical psychology),
thinking about how we think ( that’s cognitive psychology), and studying how we
grow up ( that’s developmental psychology).

Mark: Oh, cool! What about dreams? Do they mean anything?

Nahira: Some think so. Dreams are like movies our brains make when we sleep.
They might tell us something, but sometimes they're just for fun.

Mark: Interesting! Why do we feel happy or sad?

Nahira: Sometimes good things happen, so we're happy. Other times, sad things
make us sad or we miss someone.

Mark: I see. And why do we dream?

Nahira: Dreams are like stories our brains tell us at night. Some say they're random,
others think they have secrets.

Mark: Thanks, Nahira! I learned a lot.

Nahira: You're welcome, Mark! Talking about psychology is fun!
