INTERVIEW WITH DANIEL GOLEMAN

Introduction:
Interviewer I: Good morning, this is the HOME TV
program broadcasting live from Lima City. Today, we're
going to start the interview with Daniel Goleman. He is
an internationally known psychologist who lectures
frequently to professional groups, business audiences,
and on college campuses. His 1995 book, “Emotional
Intelligence” was on The New York Times bestseller list.
Welcome to the program Daniel!
INTERVIEW
• Interviewer I: How are you? How was your stay in Peru?

• Daniel: Hello Carol and Angela. I love Peru's climate; I love Peruvian food.
Some friends recommended. I visit Peru for its food and touristic places.
• Interviewer I: Could we talk about your book named “emotional
intelligence”?

• Daniel: Yes, I am very happy for the success of my book "Emotional


Intelligence". The book describes people's emotions
• Interviewer I: What motivated you to write this book?
• Daniel: This book can change your life and know people's basic
emotions.

• Interviewer I: What could you recommend to people about


emotional intelligence?
• Daniel: My emotional intelligence book improves self-knowledge and
improves job performance and productivity.
• Interviewer I: In a sentence, what is emotional intelligence?
• Daniel: I like this phrase. “To make a good decision we have to apply
feelings to thoughts”
• Interviewer I: Well you can tell us where are you born?

• Daniel: I was born in Stockton, California, on March 7, 1946. Today I


am 71 years old.

• Interviewer I: Tell us a little more about your family? Your parents


were also teachers?

• Daniel: My parents were professors at the University of Stockton,


California. My father taught literature at San Joaquin Delta College and
my mother taught sociology at the Pacific University.
• Interviewer II: Daniel you have a wife and children?

• Daniel: My wife Tara and I live in the hills of Massachusetts. My two


sons from an earlier marriage both are nearby, as are my grand-
children.

• Interviewer II: What career did you study?

• Daniel: I studied anthropology at Amherst University (Massachusetts).


The Ford Foundation was generous enough to give me a scholarship to
Harvard and I completed a doctorate in clinical psychology. My mentor
was David McClellan
• Interviewer II: What were your first jobs?
• Daniel: I was recruited by the New York Times to cover psychology and related
fields and I was also editor of the psychology today magazine.

• Interviewer II: Why did you decide to travel to India?

• Daniel: Years ago, I Traveled through studies to India on a scholarship. I also


went to Asia as a graduate student.
• I spent a lot of time studying with Nee's spiritual master, Karoli Baba.
• Interviewer II: Did you like working with spiritual master Neem Karoli
Baba?

• Daniel: Yes! I learned a lot from him. I wrote my book


• based on my trips to India and Sri Lanka.
I often look at my photos of my trips to India

 Interviewer II: What other books have you written?

 Daniel: I have written 17 books in my entire life. My last book was called
“Triple Focus” and I’m going to write more books.

 Interviewer II: Have you traveled to other places?
 Daniel: I've traveled to many countries giving lectures and this time I'm in Peru.

 Interviewer II: Are you thinking of writing the second part of


Emotional Intelligence?

 Daniel: Yes, I´m going to write the second part of the book of
"Emotional Intelligence". Its name going to be "Social Intelligence".
 I want to write the third part of my book

 Interviewer II: What could you recommend to people about


emotional intelligence?
 Daniel: My emotional intelligence book improves self-knowledge and
improves job performance and productivity. We must know our emotions
because each person is a different world.

 Interview I: How many hours do you write?


 Daniel: I usually write about eight hours a day, from 7:30 to 6 :30 sometimes I write
again in the evenings
 Interview I: Daniel. How do you relax after write?
 Daniel: I usually go to walk, I listening to music
 Interview I: Do you like your job? why?
 Daniel: Yes, I love it, because every day is different, and I like using my imagination
for write my book
