Microsoft created two separate operating systems, Windows 10 and
Windows 11, which differ significantly from one another. Windows 11 has
a completely redesigned Start Menu and Taskbar, improved touch
capabilities, strengthened security, and integrated widgets for quick
information access. Improvements in multitasking, gaming performance,
and virtual desktops are also features of this version. Windows 10 requires a
64-bit processor with a clock speed of 1 GHz, 2GB RAM, and a 20GB
HDD, while Windows 11 requires a 64-bit processor with 2 cores, 4GB
RAM, and 64GB storage.
To set itself out even more, Windows 11 features an updated Microsoft
Store that supports Android apps, in contrast to Windows 10's traditional
Microsoft Store. Windows 11's Task Manager has been enhanced to provide
more information and customization choices, while the File Explorer has
been redesigned with new functionality. In contrast to Windows 10's
traditional Start Menu, which had few features, Windows 11's Start Menu
has a new layout with pinned and suggested apps. Notably, unlike its
incorporation in Windows 10, Cortana is now separated from search in
Windows 11 and is no longer neatly incorporated into the taskbar.
Even while Windows 11 and Windows 10 have similar security features,
update processes, and hardware-software compatibility, Windows 11
outperforms Windows 10 in terms of features and performance, making it
the better option for anyone looking for a modern and effective operating
system.

CHAPTER 4

HOW TO SETUP WINDOWS 11 FOR THE

FIRST TIME
Devices must meet the minimum system requirements for Windows 11 to
move to the new operating system. It's important to know that Windows 11
might not support all of the features included in Windows 10. Moreover,
even though Windows 11's minimal system requirements must be met,
doing so could not grant you complete access to all of its sophisticated
features and apps. Certain of these sophisticated features and apps can have
unique system requirements that go above and beyond Windows 11's
minimum requirements.

Windows Update in Settings

We advise delaying your upgrading from Windows 10 until you get a
notification from Windows Update indicating that your device is ready for
the update. Go to Start > Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update
> Check for updates to see if Windows 11 is ready for your device.

Install Windows 11 Home without a Microsoft

account
The following steps will walk you through using a bootable USB flash
drive to perform a clean installation of Windows 11, which offers multiple
installation techniques. It's crucial to remember that the procedure stays the
same because the local account creation option is incorporated right into the
out-of-the-box experience.
Make sure your device is configured to boot from USB if you decide to use
this technique. For exact instructions on how to alter the UEFI (BIOS)
settings—which vary depending on the device—visit the support website of
your manufacturer.
Use these instructions to install Windows 11 Home without a Microsoft
account:

Use the Windows 11 USB flash drive to boot up the computer.

Hit any key to continue.
Choose the Next option.

Select the "Install now" button.

If you need to reinstall, select the "I don't have a product key"
option. Reactivation of Windows 11 will happen automatically if it
was previously activated after installation.

If applicable, choose the "Windows 11 Home" edition.

Check to see if "I accept the license terms" is checked.
Press the Next menu item.

The "Custom: Install Windows only (advanced)" option should be selected.

Click "Delete" after selecting each hard disk partition.

(Typically, the drive with all of the installation files on it is
"Drive 0").
Note: All data on the drive is lost when a partition is deleted. Moreover,
partitions on a secondary hard drive do not need to be removed.

Select Drive 0 Unallocated Space as the hard drive to continue

installing Windows 11 Home without logging in with a
Microsoft account.
Hit the Next menu item.
After installation, select your region on the first page of the out-
of-the-box experience (OOBE).

Select the Yes button.

Pick your keyboard layout setting.
Choose the "Yes" option.
If you don't need to configure a second layout, click the Skip
button.
Computers with Ethernet connections will automatically
establish a link to the network. A manual configuration is
necessary for a wireless connection, which can entail entering a
security key.
Verify the computer's name.
Press the Next menu item. (The PC will boot up again on its
own.)
(Critical) Turn off Wi-Fi or disconnect the network wire to
disable the internet connection. This makes it easier to set up an
offline account on Windows 11 Home, saving you from having
to utilize a Microsoft account.
To proceed with creating a local account rather than a Microsoft
account, select the Sign-in button.
Verify the name of the local account on Windows 11 Home.

Click the Next button.

Set up a password for the account.
Press the Next menu item.
Verify the password for the account.
Press the Next menu item.
To recover your account, choose and respond to the three
security questions.

Select the Next button.

Configure the privacy settings.

Press the Next menu item.

Press the Next button one more time.
Select "Accept" from the menu.
After you finish these instructions, Windows 11 Home will install itself
without requiring you to have a Microsoft account. At this point, you can
either reconnect the network cable or turn on the Wi-Fi.

INTERNET AND BROWSER SETUP

connecting to a wireless internet connection
Procedure 1
on iPhone and iPad
On your iPhone, open the Settings app from the Home Screen.
(Note: An iPod touch can also be used with these methods.)

Choose WiFi. The Settings page has this option at the top.

1.

3. Slide the Wi-Fi switch to the "ON" position to turn on the network. It will
start a search for available wireless networks on your iPhone or iPad. If the
Wi-Fi switch is already in the active (green) position, skip this step.
4. Tap the name of a network to select it. The "MY NETWORKS" heading
lists the networks you have already connected to; more networks are
accessible farther down the screen under the "OTHER NETWORKS"
header.
The name of the wireless network you are presently connected
to will have a blue checkmark next to it at the top of the list.
Tapping on a different network name allows you to change to a
new network.
After tapping the network's logo, if a password is not needed,
the connection will be established automatically.

5. If prompted, provide the network password. You will be

prompted to enter the network password when you select a
network that has a padlock icon next to it.

WPS (Wi-Fi Protected Setup) enabled networks require you

to press the "WPS" button on the wireless router to connect.
On your iPhone or iPad, the password will appear
automatically, making it easier to connect to the internet.
6. Press "Join," which is located in the upper-right area of the
display. You'll be able to connect to the wireless access point if
the password is accepted.

7.
Procedure 2
On Android
1. Press and hold the upper part of your Android home screen to view
Quick Settings and notifications.

(Note: Your settings may differ somewhat from the example shown here
due to the varied manufacturers of Android phones and tablets.)
2. Press and hold the Wi-Fi symbol. It usually looks like a cone, either
made of curving lines or solid. You may access your Android
device's Wi-Fi settings by doing this operation.

Go to the next step if you are already presented with a list of

wireless networks.
3. Turn on the Android 7 System Switch by moving the "Wi-Fi"
toggle to the "ON" position. If Wi-Fi was previously off, turning
this switch on will turn it on and start looking for networks.

If you are already connected to a Wi-Fi network, it will show

up at the top of the list, usually under a header labeled
"Current Network" or something similar.
If you don't see a slider, you may need to tap "Use Wi-Fi
instead."

4. Pick a name for the network. Open networks have no distinguishing

icons, however, password-required networks will have padlocks
next to their names.

Tapping the network's name will initiate an automated

connection if it doesn't require a password.
5. If prompted, provide the network password. You will be asked to
enter the network password if you select a network that has a
padlock icon next to it.

WPS-enabled wireless networks require you to press the

"WPS" button on the wireless router to connect. On your
Android, the password will appear in the field immediately,
making it easier to connect to the internet.

6. Select Connect, which is sometimes situated directly beneath the

login details. If the password you supplied is correct, your Android
device will connect to the network.

7.
Procedure 3
Utilizing KaiOS
1. Access Settings and choose Wi-Fi.
2. Tap to enable Wi-Fi. Your phone will search for available
wireless networks to connect to.

3. Pick a name for the network. If the network you have chosen
doesn't require a password, you can connect right away. Should a
password be required, you'll be prompted to input it.
4. Input your wireless network password if prompted. After the
password is successfully accepted, you will be connected to the
network.

A wireless network symbol (resembling a cone made of

several curved lines) will be displayed at the top of the screen
to indicate a successful connection.
To verify your wireless connection, open your browser and
attempt to visit a website.
Procedure 4
Using Windows
Press the icon for the network. In Windows 10, it is situated in the taskbar's
lower-right corner, to the left of the time. The icon will look like the outline
of a globe with a little "warning" circle at the bottom-right corner if you're
not currently connected to a network. Click the upward-pointing arrow (\)
to the left of the time to show more icons if neither of these icons is visible.

To access Settings on Windows 8, move your mouse pointer to

the upper-right corner of the screen and choose it.
In Windows 7, a set of bars serves as the Wi-Fi icon.
On the network's name, click. There will be a list of available networks
visible.

Networks with "Secured" listed beneath their names are those

that demand a password to connect.
Next to the network you wish to join, select Connect. The network's name
has this option in the lower-right corner.

If you want to enable your PC to connect to this network

anytime it is in range, you may also tick the "Connect
automatically" box here.
Clicking Connect will initiate an automatic connection if the
network doesn't require a password.
If prompted, provide the network password. To join a secured network, the
password must be entered.

To connect to a Wi-Fi network that has WPS enabled, press the

wireless router's "WPS" button. Your PC's password box will
automatically fill in, making it easier to connect to the internet.

Press the Next button. This button is located in the lower-left corner of the
network window and, if the password you supplied is accurate, it will
prompt your computer to connect to the network.
Procedure 5
Utilizing macOS
Choose the Wi-Fi symbol. Located in the upper-right corner of the menu
bar at the screen's top, the icon will appear as a hollow cone if your
computer is not currently connected to a wireless network.

The name of the network, along with a checkmark, will appear

at the top of the list if it is already connected to one.
Select a name for your network. If the network doesn't require a password,
your Mac will connect itself. You will be requested to provide a password if
one is required at this stage.

Enter the network's password if prompted.

Select "Join" by clicking. If the password is entered correctly, your Mac

will join the network via the link at the bottom of the pop-up window.
Browsing your in-built web browser (Microsoft
edge)

I had my doubts when Google chose to replace Microsoft's proprietary web

browser code with its semi-open-source Chromium technology, which is the
basis of the well-known Chrome web browser. It was suggested that why
not just use Chrome? My doubts, though, were dispelled when I saw how
the new Edge in Windows 11 excelled in terms of speed, compatibility, ease
of use, privacy, security, and a host of other helpful features.
Among its many alluring features, Windows 11's Edge browser includes a
customized home page, lightning-fast performance, a Collections feature,
an integrated screenshot tool, stacking tabs, and support for progressive
web apps. As Windows 11's default browser, Edge offers special features
and is tailored for links that are exclusive to Microsoft. Although users can
change the default browser, they might not want to because of the new
Edge's attractive features. Edge also serves as an integrated web viewer for
WebView2-enabled programs that need an internet connection.
Moreover, Edge is cross-platform compatible, meaning it can be used on
Linux, macOS, iOS, Android, and other operating systems in addition to
Windows. Because of its cross-platform compatibility, users may easily
synchronize settings between several devices.
To guarantee a stable surfing experience, Microsoft is still dedicated to
improving the Edge browser, adding new features, and bolstering security
measures.

Presents a Visually Appealing Makeover

Like every other Windows 11 application, Edge has an updated UI that

heavily draws on the Fluent design language compared to Windows 10.
Interestingly, dropdown menus now use Acrylic, a somewhat translucent
material that can be seen in the context menu dialog box that appears when
you right-click on it. Mica is another understated design feature used by the
browser that modifies an element's look, such as the title bar, based on the
color of the window or desktop background. You can also see that the
window has rounded corners.

Improves Privacy Settings and Password

Management
Edge has clear privacy settings. There is, as is frequently the case, a trade-
off: the more private and secure the privacy level selected, the fewer
functions and capabilities are available on the site. Another great option is
to use InPrivate windows' rigorous tracking avoidance; this is especially
useful when using private browsing sessions and cross-site tracking is not
desired.
What some other browsers refer to as Incognito or private browsing mode is
similar to Edge's InPrivate mode. In this mode, Edge doesn't share your
Microsoft account identify with visited websites, and it doesn't save
browser history, searches, or cookies. Using a VPN or proxy service is
advised for complete privacy protection of your browsing behavior from
websites and your internet service provider.
Password saving is a feature that can help improve security and is currently
available in all major browsers. When you enter login credentials on
websites, Edge can automatically save them and sync them with other
devices where you have entered into Edge.
Additionally, Edge enables the storage of credit and debit card details,
including CVCs, for online transactions across all active Edge instances.
Even though the data is end-to-end encrypted while syncing, manually
entering the CVC is advised for an extra degree of security. Online
checkout pages that auto-fill becoming increasingly convenient, but make
sure your computer is protected if you leave it alone to avoid card
information being stolen. It's an extra precaution, even if they can't see your
actual card details without authentication.
Enhanced security for unknown websites is a special security feature. For
further security, this option allows you to run unfamiliar websites without
using just-in-time (JIT) compilation. Because JIT-less execution minimizes
the attack surface, hostile websites find it more difficult to exploit
vulnerabilities. Windows operating system mitigations such as Arbitrary
Code Guard (ACG), Control Flow Guard (CFG), and Hardware Enforced
Stack Protection are among the extra security measures. Basic, Balanced,
and Strict are the three protection levels that give varying degrees of
security along with certain restrictions on the functionality of the site.

Organizes Your Web Pages with Collections

Edge's Collections feature simplifies how your web pages are arranged.
While browsing the internet, this functionality offers a productive approach
to compile and organize content. You can bookmark websites, photos, and
data using Collections and organize them as you see fit. Edge's Collections
function is a useful tool for researchers, project planners, and idea collectors
alike since it guarantees a digital workspace that is both quickly accessible
and well-organized.

Automatically Saves You Money While Shopping

With the increasing popularity of online shopping, Edge provides features
to assist consumers in saving money. No need for lengthy web searches—
the browser can automatically find coupon codes for the stores you
frequently visit. Edge may even attempt every possible applicable coupon
in some circumstances, saving painstaking copying and pasting.
Furthermore, certain websites provide a cashback scheme, as seen in the
screenshot.

Introduces Fantastic New Features for Tab

Enthusiasts
Concerning tab management, Edge has always provided benefits and ease
of use, such as vertical tabs, tab groups, and tab pinning. Another feature
that seems straightforward but is useful—at least for me—is the ability to
switch between browser tabs by pressing the Alt key. It is now effortless to
transition between browser tabs as if they were separate programs, as this
action corresponds with the reaction many users have while switching
windows.
Another useful tabbing feature is color-coded tab groupings. One useful
hint is that you can focus on other tabs by collapsing the group by touching
the thick red button, which is situated on the far left of the tab bar in the
image above. The full tab group reopens when you tap it again.

For people who tend to have too many tabs open, vertical tabs are a big
help. Unlike the homogeneous sea of tiny tabs in Chrome, they are
immediately recognizable when stacked along the left rail.
Minimizes Distractions with Immersive Reading
Mode

One feature that Edge provides that is not typically found in other browsers
is called Immersive Reader. Reader-friendly views are provided by Firefox,
Opera, and Safari, but Edge goes one step further by enabling the text to be
read aloud in a remarkably natural voice. This feature, which highlights and
auto-scrolls the text, is helpful for readers as well as an accessibility tool.

Takes Full-Page Screenshots

Another benefit that comes with the integrated Web Capture tool is that it
lets users take screenshots. Its most notable feature is its ability to instantly
record a whole webpage by scrolling down, even though it also allows you
to select a specific region of a webpage for a screenshot. Once taken, users
have the option to add the screenshot to a Collection or annotate it with a
pen symbol.
Launches Websites as Apps
Compared to earlier browser iterations, Windows 11 Edge's support for
Progressive Web Apps (PWAs) has greatly improved. These days, PWAs
are easily accessible through the Microsoft Store app within the operating
system, as opposed to the past when users had to wade through menus to
access these website-application hybrids. With a button in the toolbar of the
browser, users may open a website as a web application without being
distracted by the browser interface, making setting up a PWA easier than
before. In my experience, well-known websites like Gmail, Outlook,
Spotify, and Twitter operate flawlessly as PWAs.
Accesses Services Quickly with the Sidebar
The Edge browser's convenient sidebar makes it easier to access services
quickly. This application makes it easier for users to browse and access
different services, which makes browsing more efficient and user-friendly.

Introducing a sidebar for easier access to widely used web services is not a
new notion, and Opera can attest to that! However, Microsoft Edge's next
key addition delivers great implementation and usability. With this
functionality, users may quickly check their email, conduct searches, send
and receive messages, open recently opened documents, and carry on with
their shopping missions. It may be activated via Settings, and while it's not
in use, the browser window's right side has a thin rail running along it.
A button in the sidebar labeled "Discover" takes you to the current website,
and another button points you in the direction of online casual games. It
permits the inclusion of YouTube, Gmail, Instagram, WhatsApp, Spotify,
Apple Music, and Microsoft services. Any website that is now open in the
browser can be added with ease if the default options don't meet your needs.

Facilitates the Management of Extensions and

Add-Ons
Microsoft Edge streamlines the user experience by making managing
extensions and add-ons easier. You may easily personalize your browsing
experience by accessing and customizing these browser features. Edge
makes sure that installing extensions to your browser is a simple procedure,
whether it's for increasing productivity, boosting security, or introducing
new capabilities.

With Windows 11, add-ons and extensions, including themes, are available
through a webpage gallery instead of the Microsoft Store, as seen in the
image above.
Chrome Web Store add-ons are still available for use. Take control of your
add-ons by adjusting their visibility in the browser's top toolbar and
selecting which ones to use when browsing in private. It's not a good idea to
use add-ons in InPrivate mode because most extensions have access to all
of your browsing history, even when they're not actively being used. Many
people may be shocked to learn this. Go to the Manage Extensions Settings
page to change how an extension has access to your browser history.

Conserves Energy Through Performance Mode

You may enable the Performance button in Settings. It is a heart with a

lightning bolt. When using a laptop without access to power charging, this
button opens a window that lets you convert the browser to Efficiency
mode, which helps preserve battery life. You may also speed up the
browser's launch by running it in the background while logging into
Windows by enabling graphics hardware acceleration if your system
supports it under Settings.

Resolves Mathematical Problems

The Math Solver is a particularly useful tool for pupils. You can manually
enter an equation using the keyboard or select one from the list of equations
displayed on the screen. From "simple arithmetic to advanced algebra,
trigonometry, and more," the Math Solver's launch interface indicates that it
can handle a wide range of tasks. For instances where you need to convert
measurements—for example, to convert between Fahrenheit and Celsius or
to find the equivalent meters for a certain number of feet—there is also a
Unit Converter available.

Enables Writing Instead of Typing

Windows 11 improves the Digital Ink experience for those who want to
interact with websites with a stylus, particularly when utilizing the new
Surface Pen 2 for Microsoft Surface tablets. Edge makes for a better overall
experience. The business claims that testing shows a staggering 240%
decrease in latency when using the pen on the screen in comparison to
Windows 10. Using the Ink API, developers may incorporate this speed
boost into their online applications.

Can Transition to Internet Explorer Mode

Even though Internet Explorer, the browser that once dominated the market,
may not have as many fans as it once did, some companies have created
web apps that require Internet Explorer to work, usually for internal
employee use. You can choose to use Edge on Windows 11 in a mode that
simulates Internet Explorer for older apps, which removes the requirement
to launch the Internet Explorer browser itself. Go to Settings, restart the
browser, and choose "Reload in Internet Explorer Mode" whenever you
come across a website that needs Internet Explorer to enable this option.
Additionally, Edge lets you keep track of websites that ought to launch in
this mode automatically.

How to Change Your Default Browser in Windows

11
Using the Settings app, you can change the default browser:
1. Click on Settings when the Start menu appears. If it's not there,
try searching for Settings with the search bar.

Choose "Apps" from the left sidebar.

Click on "Default apps."

Choose the web browser you wish to set as the default.

Click on "Set default."

Verify that the HTTP and HTTPS sections are set up with the
default browser you want. If not, pick them by hand to make the
required adjustments.

The browser you have chosen will now open and display all URL
web links and HTML files. By choosing a certain file type and the
preferred browser, you may also change the default browser that
opens PDFs and other file formats.
No matter how you set your default browser, if you select a web link in
Windows Search or Windows News, it will always open in Microsoft Edge.

Reasons to Change Your Default Browser

In Windows 11, Microsoft Edge is the standard browser. Links in
documents will always open in Edge even if you are free to download and
use any other browser. Additionally, some file types—like PDFs—will
always open in Edge by default. For a more consistent experience, it's
advised to adjust the default settings in the Settings menu if you frequently
use a different browser.

Manage Your Internet Favorites in Edge in

Windows 11
Should you have an abundance of Internet favorites (also called bookmarks)
that impede your ability to quickly access different websites because of
clutter, Microsoft's Edge web browser provides easy-to-use organizing
options. Click the Favorites button, which is to the right of the address bar
and looks like a star with three lines coming out of it, to open these tools.
When you click the Favorites button, the Favorites panel will open and you
may click on a favorite to quickly get to a certain website. There are five
icons at the top of the favorites panel, and each one has a different purpose.
These icons let you accomplish the following, from left to right: add a new
favorite, make a new folder to store favorites in, search through your
favorites, open the favorites preferences menu, and pin the favorites bar to
the right side of your browser window.

You can import your favorites from another web browser and access extra
features by clicking the three dots symbol, which opens the settings menu.
This is especially helpful if you're switching from Mozilla Firefox or
Google Chrome as your browser. To access and arrange your favorites,
select "Open favorites page."
When you access the favorites page, all of your saved Internet favorites will
appear on the right side, accompanied by the folders that contain them on
the left. There are three options at the top: "Add a new favorite," "Show the
favorites bar," and "Add a new folder." The favorites bar allows you to
quickly and consistently access your favorites.
On the favorites tab, you can easily rearrange your favorites into folders and
change their order by just dragging and dropping them. Click on the name
of the folder in the left panel to view its contents and manage favorites
inside of it. Drag these favorites over the "Favorites bar" link in the left
panel to add them to the main favorites list.
Change your default search engine in Microsoft
Edge
If you continue to use Bing as your preferred search engine in the new
Microsoft Edge, it will improve your search experience by providing quick
answers to Windows-related questions, suggestions relevant to your
organization (if you are logged in with a work or school account), and direct
links to Windows apps. It is still possible to switch the default search engine
to any website that uses OpenSearch technology.
To change Microsoft Edge's default search engine:

Use the search engine you want to designate as your default to look
up content in the address bar.
Select "Settings and more" (three dots) > "Settings."

Choose "Privacy, search, and services."

Scroll to the bottom of the page to locate the Services section,

then click on "Address bar and search."
Choose your preferred search engine from the "Search engine
used in the address bar" menu.
You can use a compatible website (such as a wiki site) or that particular
search engine to add another search engine. After that, select "Settings and
more" (three dots) > "Settings" > "Privacy, search, and services" > "Address
bar and search." You can now choose from a list of possibilities that
includes the search engine or website you utilized.

FOLDER ORGANIZATION AND PROPERTIES

MANAGEMENT
Organizing Your Files Using Windows File
Explorer
Throughout the years, Windows File Explorer's look, capabilities, and
general user experience have changed. Its primary function—assisting you
in organizing, viewing, and accessing the range of files, documents, and
images kept on your computer—remains unchanged despite these
modifications. There can be File Explorer capabilities that you're unfamiliar
with or haven't used recently, regardless of how long you've been using
Windows. This is particularly true with Windows 11, as it brings both
functional and decorative improvements to File Explorer.
You can see your recently viewed files and commonly used folders in the
Quick Access area of File Explorer. Sharing files directly from File
Explorer is made quick and easy with a dedicated Share button. The smooth
integration of OneDrive as a file storage provider into File Explorer makes
cloud file syncing and storage easier for OneDrive customers. Take a look
at the extra options listed below to improve Windows file management.

Personalize Quick Access View

File Explorer's Quick Access section, which shows your recently opened
files and frequently accessed folders, is at the top of the left pane. Because
the folders you use most frequently are in this section, you can personalize
the Quick Access view to maximize its usefulness based on your
preferences.

In File Explorer, right-click on a folder to add it to Quick Access. Then,

choose "Pin to Quick Access" from the option that appears. Alternatively,
the folder can be dropped into the Quick Access area by dragging it.
Crucially, this functionality lets you pin folders from network drives, and
integrated cloud services like Dropbox and OneDrive, in addition to local
folders.

To remove a folder from Quick Access, right-click on it and select "Unpin

from Quick Access" from the pop-up menu.
Drag and drop a folder to the desired location in the list to effortlessly
change the order of folders in Quick Access. Organize them as you see fit to
ensure easy and rapid access.

The Windows taskbar is easily integrated with Quick Access. Your pinned
folders for Quick Access are visible in a menu that appears when you right-
click the File Explorer icon in the taskbar. This allows you to quickly and
easily access the folders you use most frequently from the taskbar.
Take the following actions to stop commonly used files and directories from
being added automatically:

Using Windows 11, open File Explorer.

Select Options from the menu by clicking the "See more"
ellipsis button at the top.
To disable the "Show recently used files in Quick access" and
"Show frequently used folders in Quick access" options, go to
the General tab's Privacy section and uncheck the boxes.
Select "OK."
Your often-used directories will remain visible but will no longer
automatically fill after you've finished these procedures, and recently used
files will no longer be viewable.
Open File Explorer to Display 'This PC' as the
Default View
Use these procedures to change Windows 11 File Explorer's default opening
location:

Select the "See more" ellipsis icon located at the top of File
Explorer.
Select an option from the list.
Locate the "Open File Explorer to:" option in the Folder Options
window.
The drop-down option can be used to change it from Quick Access to "This
PC."

After selecting OK, exit File Explorer.

File Explorer will now open to "This PC" rather than Quick Access when
these changes are made.

The next time you launch File Explorer, it will open directly to the "This
PC" view.
Display or Conceal File Extensions
These simple methods will allow you to toggle the appearance of file
extensions in Windows 11 File Explorer:

Launch File Explorer, then select View from the menu at the
top.
To disable file name extensions, uncheck the "File name
extensions" option under the Show submenu.
Just choose the option once again to enable file extensions
again.
You may easily customize whether file extensions are shown or hidden
according to your preferences with these procedures.
Show Your Libraries
Use these techniques to make libraries visible in Windows 11 File Explorer:

In File Explorer, click the ellipsis icon (three dots).

Click "Options."
Select the View tab in the Options window.
Scroll through the list and choose the "Show libraries" check
box.
Select "OK."
You can quickly display libraries for convenient access in Windows 11 File
Explorer by following these instructions.

Display Various Panes in File Explorer

The following actions can be used to alter the panes' visibility in Windows
11 File Explorer:

Launch File Explorer.

Select the View option.
Proceed to Show.
Disable the Navigation pane option.
You may quickly customize your File Explorer layout by turning the
Navigation pane on or off according to your preferences by following these
instructions.

The steps below can be used to enable the Preview pane in Windows 11
File Explorer:

Launch File Explorer.

Select the View option.
Proceed to Show.
Verify the Preview pane selection.
You may improve your File Explorer experience by conveniently viewing
the contents of different file types without opening them by following these
instructions.
The procedures below can be used to activate the Details pane in Windows
11 File Explorer:

Launch File Explorer.

Select the View option.
Proceed to Show.
Verify the Details pane option.
These steps will improve your File Explorer experience by giving you
access to important details about files and directories, like their size, name,
and latest changed date.

Utilize the Context-Sensitive Menu

In Windows 11 File Explorer, a context-sensitive menu appears when you
right-click on a folder, file, or other object. This menu has a set of
instructions that are specific to the item you have selected. Basic operations
including Cut, Copy, Paste, Delete, Rename, Send to, Share, and Properties
are usually included in this menu. In addition, it might include more
commands depending on what you choose and any installed apps that work
with the menu.
Microsoft streamlined the context menu in Windows 11 by removing
extraneous actions and presenting the important ones as icons to reduce
clutter and streamline the interface. When you right-click an object, the
main commands—Cut, Copy, Paste, Rename, Share, and Delete—appear as
icons at the top. There is one more step to access all commands: select the
"Show more options" option. This strategy guarantees a better organized
and effective user interface.

Zip and Unzip Files

Choose the files you want to compress in Windows 11 and then give them a
right-click. Select the "Compress to ZIP file" command from the menu. You
can rename the produced ZIP file if necessary.
In Windows 11, right-click a compressed file and select "Extract All." Click
"Extract" after confirming the destination.

Share Folders or Files

Streamlining your work process and sharing a folder or file with a certain
individual or program is a practical choice.
After choosing the required folder or file in Windows 11, click the Share
icon that is situated on the upper toolbar. Once more, indicate who you want
to share the item with—a person or an app.

How to Restore the Classic Start Menu in
Windows 11
Windows 11 has made substantial modifications to the Start menu's design
and position. While many users are happy with these upgrades, some might
rather have Windows 10's traditional Start menu. Here's a step-by-step
tutorial on how to return to the well-known Windows 10 Start menu on
Windows 11 if you fall into this category.

Windows 10 Classic Start Menu vs. Windows 11

New Start Menu
When comparing Windows 11 to Windows 10, the Start menu looks very
different, especially if you've played with it or seen screenshots. The
location and layout are where the biggest changes are most noticeable:

1. Place:

Windows 10: The PC screen's lower-left corner houses the

Start menu.
Windows 11: At the bottom of the screen, users see a
centered Start menu.
2. Design:

Windows 10: With a plethora of features and divisions, the Start

menu is an impressive tool.
Windows 11: Pinned, Recommended, and User account &
Power button are the three areas that make up the simplified
Start menu.
Some people have been looking at ways to get back to the classic Windows
10 Classic Start Menu as a result of these changes in Windows 11.

To move taskbar icons to the left in Windows 11

By moving task icons to the left side in Windows 11, you can restore the
Start menu to the traditional Windows 10-style by doing the following
steps:

Press Windows + I to open the Settings window, or use your

favorite shortcut.
Select "Personalization" from the pane on the left.
Locate and select "Taskbar" from the section on the right.
Find and select the "Taskbar behaviors" option to make it larger.
Select the "Taskbar alignment" option by clicking the down
arrow next to it.
Choose "Left" from the drop-down menu rather than "Center."

How to restore the classic Start Menu in Windows

11 via Registry Editor
Take the following actions:
Note: Windows 11 has a pre-compile option that you can use to alter the
Registry if you haven't updated to the 22H2 version. Unfortunately, because
the Registry will not save modifications with the 22H2 Feature update, this
solution is no longer viable for security concerns.
To access the Windows search pane, click the search icon in the taskbar or
hit Windows + S.
Registry Editor opens when you type regedit and hit Enter.
Follow this path: Explorer\Advanced is located at
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion.
You can use the right-click menu to select "Advanced" in the left pane or to
select the blank space in the right pane.
Select New -> 32-bit DWORD Value. Put Start-ShowClassicMode as the
name of it.
To open the produced value, double-click on it. Click OK after changing the
Value data to 1.
Give your machine a restart. Alternatively, you can use Windows + R to
enter Run, type regedit, and then click OK to launch Registry Editor.

How to use the search capability on the start

screen
Your taskbar contains a handy search function that is always ready to help
you find what you're looking for. On Windows, use the search box to find
your files, applications, settings, assistance, and more. Quick access to
online information, such as fact lookups, time zone conversions, trending
searches, and search results for quicker website navigation, can help you
fully utilize the power of the internet. Additionally, you can utilize
Microsoft Search to identify files and people within your work or school
organization.
Start and Search's search boxes will both be updated frequently with fresh
information and visually appealing graphics to help you learn more, keep in
touch, and increase productivity.

Explore more with Search Home

To access the search home and learn more about what's happening on your
computer, in the real world, within your company, and online, just tap or
click on Search. Every day, search highlights bring new content to the
search home by providing information on notable and fascinating
occasions, celebrations, anniversaries, and instructive moments both locally
and worldwide. You can easily access your recently launched files,
websites, programs, and settings with Search Home as well.
To go to Search Home even faster, press the Windows logo key + S on the
keyboard to launch Search right away.
Search your PC and the web
Just press or click on the search icon, type your query into the search box,
and you'll be able to view search results from both your PC and the internet.
You'll quickly see suggestions that will help you get to the stuff you want
faster. As an alternative, you can type your search phrase and start a search
straight from Start.

Select a category that corresponds with your search to get more results of a
particular kind. Apps, Documents, Settings, Web, and other categories are
included. Before you begin typing, you can choose a category from the tabs
at the top of the Search window.

How to Change Windows 11 System Sounds

CHAPTER 8

How to manage storage devices on Windows 11

For optimal operation, all storage devices on Windows 11 need to have a
compatible volume that matches the file system and drive letter. An external
or internal hard disk typically arrives pre-formatted with the required
settings for plug-and-play functioning when connected. On the other hand,
there are times when handling the storage device manually is required.
For example, you may need to fix file corruption issues or reformat a drive
that was previously attached to a computer. To organize stored data more
meaningfully, it can be essential to change the drive letter or label. As an
alternative, you might choose to resize the volume to create separate
volumes for storing various file types rather than use the full disk for file
storage.
For whatever reason, Windows 11 provides several options for handling
storage devices, such as Disk Management and the "Disks & volumes"
settings. An old feature that lets you view all disks (SSDs, HDDs, and USB
drives) is Disk Management. It also has tools to make, resize, format, and
change volume letters and labels.
Conversely, the new experience meant to take the place of the Disk
Management panel is called "Disks & volumes". It may be accessed via the
Storage settings and looks like the old console, with a viewable interface for
disks (that is if they haven't been initialized). You can add and remove
volumes, change their format and size, and give storage volumes unique
labels and letters using this interface.
How to manage drives with Disks & volumes
settings on Windows 11
With Windows 11, managing storage drives is made easier with a
redesigned "Disks & volumes" experience inside the Settings app. With the
help of this function, users can modify drive letters and labels, add new
volumes, format drives, and carry out several other storage-related
operations. Despite being intended to take the place of Disk Management,
users who prefer the familiar interface of the legacy tool can still access it.

Create new volume

Use the Disks & volumes settings in Windows 11 to create a new volume
by doing the following steps:

Go to Settings.
Select System.
Use the right navigation to reach the Storage page.

Under the "Storage management" section, follow these steps:

Click on Advanced storage settings.

Choose the "Disks & volumes" settings.
Select the drive to create a new volume.
Select the Unallocated space and click the "Create volume"
button.
Verify the drive label by checking the "Label" field.
From the "Drive letter" drop-down option, choose the drive letter.
From the "File System" drop-down menu, select NTFS.
Select "Advanced" from the menu.
Make sure "Perform a quick format" is selected. A short tip: The
format will take a long time if you don't use the "quick" option.
The main reason is that a full format will take a long time because
it will erase the data and run a faulty sector scan.
Press the "Format" menu item.
When the wizard is finished, a new volume with a drive letter, file system,
and label will show up in File Explorer.
Change drive letter
Follow these procedures to modify the drive letter in Windows 11 via the
Settings app:

Go to Settings.
Select System.
Select the Storage page from the menu on the right.

The procedures below can be used to access the "Disks & volumes" settings
in Windows 11's "Storage management" section:

Select Settings.
Press the System button.
Use the right navigation to access the Storage page.
1. Select Advanced storage settings from the "Storage management"
section.
2. Select "Disks & volumes" from the menu.
Select the drive to create a new volume.
Select the available volume and click the Properties button.
Select the "Change drive letter" option.
Select a new drive letter for the volume.
Press the OK button.
Once these steps are completed, the new letter will be assigned to the drive.

Change volume label

To change the volume label in Windows 11, take the following actions:

1. Go to Settings.
2. Go to the section on systems.
3. Select the Storage page by clicking on the link on the right.

4. In the "Storage management" section, select Advanced storage

settings.
5. Click on "Disks & volumes."
6. Choose the drive to initiate a new volume.
7. Select the available volume and click on the Properties button.

9. Confirm a new label for the drive.
10.
Click the Apply button.
Once you complete the steps, the new label will be reflected on the drive
throughout the Windows 11 experience.

Format drive
Using the Disks & volumes settings, format a disk with a new volume and
file system by doing the following:

Select Settings.
Press the System button.
Use the right navigation to access the Storage page.

Navigate to the "Storage management" section and select

Advanced storage settings.
Proceed to the "Disks & volumes" settings and click on it.
Choose the drive for formatting.
Select the accessible volume and click on the Properties button.
In the "Format" section, click the Format button.
Verify the drive label in the "Label" field.
Choose the NTFS option from the "File System" drop-down
menu.
Verify that "Perform a quick format" is chosen.
Press the Format menu item.
The volume will be formatted with a new drive letter, label, and file system
after these procedures are finished, and the contents will be deleted.

Alter the file system

It is possible to change the file system from NTFS to FAT32, but you must
be aware that doing so would erase all of the data on the storage. It is
therefore highly advised that you back up any important data before
continuing.
Use these procedures to change the Windows 11 partition file system:
Select Settings.
Press the System button.
Use the right side to access the Storage page.
Choose Advanced Storage Settings under the "Storage
Management" section.
Navigate to the "Disks & volumes" configuration and select it.
In Windows 11, choose the drive to change the file system.
Click the Properties option after selecting the volume that is
accessible.
Click the Format button located in the "Format" section.
Check the label of a drive in the "Label" box.
From the "File System" drop-down menu, pick either NTFS or
FAT32.

Ensure the "Perform a quick format" option is selected.

Click the Format button.
When you finish these procedures, the volume will have the new file system
applied to it and will show up in File Explorer as an empty drive.

Adjust volume size

To change a volume's size in Windows 11, take the following actions:

Go to Settings.
Select System.
Click on the Storage link on the right.
Select Advanced Storage Settings under the "Storage
Management" section.
Select "Disks & volumes" from the menu.
In Windows 11, choose the drive to change the volume size.
Select the available volume and press the Properties button.
Click on the "Change size" button.

Indicate the desired size (in megabytes) to either shrink or

expand the space of the volume.
Select the OK button.
Once you've completed these steps, the volume will be displayed with the
updated size in the system.

Mount drive as a folder

One way to reduce the number of system drives on Windows 11 is to mount
a drive as a folder rather than giving it a drive letter.
To mount a drive as a folder in Windows 11, do the following:

Select Settings.
Press the System button.
Use the right side to access the Storage page.
Choose Advanced Storage Settings under the "Storage
Management" section.
Select "Disks & volumes" from the menu.
In Windows 11, select the drive to be mounted as a folder.
Click the Properties option after selecting the available volume.
Click the Add button in the "Paths" column.
Click the Browse button.

Find the place where the volume is to be mounted.

Click the Select Folder button to choose the folder.
Select "OK" by clicking.
You will be able to access the files from the designated drive letter as well
as the folder location once you have finished these procedures.

Inspect drive properties

Take the following actions to check the drive properties for information like
the model, serial number, and other details:

Select Settings.
Press the System button.
Use the right side to access the Storage page.
Choose Advanced Storage Settings under the "Storage
Management" section.
Select "Disks & volumes" from the menu.
Select the drive and press the Properties icon.
Check drive details, such as media type, drive ID, manufacturer,
model, and serial number.

Once the procedures are finished, you will be able to confirm a variety of
characteristics regarding the hard disk, such as the model and serial
numbers.

Managing Drives with Disk Management on

Windows 11
Disk Management, the conventional interface for controlling primary,
secondary, and portable drives attached to your computer, is still included in
Windows 11. Disk Management provides options for establishing new
volumes, such as formatting, changing labels and letters, activating
compression, and increasing disk size, much like the new Disk & volumes
experience.

Initializing a Drive
It is necessary to initialize a drive that contains raw data, meaning it has
never been formatted before you can work with it. Here are the procedures
to initialize a hard disk in Windows 11:

Press the Start button.

To launch the Disk Management program, search for "Create
and format hard disk partitions" and click the first result.
If the "Initialize Disk" option is not prompted immediately,
right-click on the disk and choose it.
Select the relevant disk from the drop-down menu. Decide on the type of
partition:

Master Boot Record, or MBR.

The GPT (GuID Partition Table) is advised.
Select the OK button.
After completing these procedures, the hard drive will be initialized, which
will allow the system to connect to the storage for data management and
partitioning.

Convert to Dynamic Disk

Windows 11's Disk Management tool can label a disk as either a "Dynamic
Disk" or a "Basic Disk." By default, "Basic Disk" is selected, which enables
data and partition administration. If users want to access more storage
functions, they can choose to turn the storage into a "Dynamic Disk".
Configurations like as basic, spanned, striped, mirrored, and RAID 5
volumes require this translation.
It's crucial to remember that this conversion procedure is non-destructive,
so data on the drive won't be lost. However, before moving further, it's
advised that you make a backup of your data.
To convert a Windows 11 Basic disk to a dynamic disk, take the following
actions:

Press Start.
To launch the Disk Management app, search for "Create and
format hard disk partitions" and click the top result.
Choose "Convert to Dynamic Disk" from the menu by
performing a right-click on the disk.

Please be aware that bootable disks with a Windows installation cannot be

converted.

Choose the relevant disk from the list (if applicable).

Select the OK button.
The drive will enter a dynamic state after these procedures are finished,
enabling access to extra storage features including parity, striping, and
mirroring. You will also be able to increase storage capacity by spreading it
across several drives.

choose it.

In the "Volume label" section, confirm the drive label.

From the "File System" drop-down menu, select NTFS.
From the "Allocation unit size" drop-down menu, choose
Default.
Verify that "Perform a quick format" is chosen.
Press the Apply option.
Choose the "OK" button.
The utility will create a new volume with the designated file system, drive
letter, and label after these processes are finished, erasing the drive.

Chapter 10

FILE MANAGEMENT AND SHORTCUTS TO

USE
SHORTCUTS TO USE
COPY AND PASTE
A keyboard shortcut known as "copy-and-paste" allows the user to copy
and paste selected text to another location by duplicating it and storing it in
the clipboard. Generally, Ctrl+C is the keyboard shortcut for copying and
Ctrl+V for pasting.

The shortcuts for copy and paste, which are usually Ctrl+Insert for copy and
Shift+Insert for paste, are different in some operating systems, such as
Windows 11. Moreover, there are other keyboard shortcuts for copying and
pasting that are designed for distinct uses.
Using Ctrl+A to select all of the text and then Ctrl+C to copy it, for
example, allows you to copy a complete document. The keyboard shortcut
Ctrl+Shift+C enables you to copy just the selected text if that's what you
want to do.
You can use the keyboard shortcut Ctrl+W to pick the word or phrase you
want to copy, and then use Ctrl+C to make the copy. Use Ctrl+Shift+L to
select the entire line of text, then hit Ctrl+C to copy it. This method works
for any length of text.
The shortcuts for copying and pasting work quite well when you need to
move content quickly from one place to another.

WINDOWS
One keyboard shortcut to quickly enter the Windows 11 start menu is the
Windows logo shortcut. All you have to do to use the Window Logo
shortcut is hit the Windows key on your keyboard.

Typically, the Windows key is located on the left side of your keyboard, in
between the Ctrl and Alt keys. The Windows 11 start menu will instantly
show on your screen after you press the Windows key.
After that, you may use your mouse or keyboard to browse the Start menu
and select the required files or programs to open.
The Windows Logo shortcut is a useful productivity tool that provides a
quick and easy way to open the Windows 11 start menu.

COMMAND PROMPT
In Windows 11, the Command Prompt is a text-based interface that allows
users to enter commands and receive the related output.
By employing a keyboard shortcut, users can quickly access the Command
Prompt interface with the Command Prompt shortcut. To access the
Command Prompt shortcut, press the Windows key and the letter "R" at the
same time.
This will cause the Run dialogue box to open. Type "cmd" into the Run
dialogue box and hit Enter. The Command Prompt interface will then open
as a result.
It turns out that using the Command Prompt shortcut is a more practical
way to open the Command Prompt interface than using the Windows 11
Start menu.

FILE EXPLORER
In Windows 11, the File Explorer shortcut offers a practical way to quickly
open the File Explorer window. Use the Windows key + E keyboard
shortcut to access the File Explorer.
By doing this operation, you will quickly be able to navigate your files and
directories in the File Explorer window.
The shortcut for File Explorer is a great way to save time, especially when
you need to access your files quickly.
Give the File Explorer shortcut a try the next time you find yourself in need
of opening the File Explorer window.

TASKBAR
Taskbar shortcuts offer a practical way to quickly access files and activate
programs.
Windows 11 allows you to make taskbar shortcuts for Universal Windows
Platform (UWP) and desktop applications.
Press and hold the Alt key, then press the letter or number that corresponds
to the app you want to open, to create a taskbar shortcut. To start the first
app on your taskbar, for example, hit Alt+1. To start the second app, press
Alt+2.
To start UWP apps, press the number corresponding to the app you wish to
open after holding down the Windows key.
Make sure you give taskbar shortcuts a try; they're a great way to increase
productivity and save time.

PRINT SCREEN
There are several ways to use the Print Screen feature in Windows 11.

1.

You can first choose the window and then hit "Alt + Print Screen" if you
want to take a photo of that specific window. With this operation, you can
save the selected window to your clipboard and have it captured. After that,
you can copy the picture into an image-editing application and store it for
later use.
Alternatively, you can use "Ctrl + Print Screen" to take a snapshot of the
entire screen without saving it as an image file. This command launches the
integrated Snipping Tool and takes a screenshot. You can then select how
you want to take a screenshot, save it as an image file, and send it
immediately to a friend or colleague.

SETTINGS
With Windows 11, a new feature called settings shortcuts allows users to
quickly access settings and choices with keyboard commands.

Simply hit the Windows key + I on your keyboard to access settings

shortcuts. In Windows 11, the Settings app is opened by doing this.
You can then use your keyboard to go to any particular configuration or
option that needs to be changed.
When it comes to changing your settings, settings shortcuts save you time
and provide a more effective way to do so without using your mouse or
touchpad.

How to Move Files in Windows 11

How to Transfer Files Using the Drag-and-Drop
Method
When transferring files, a lot of Windows 11 users choose to utilize the
drag-and-drop method, which is a simple way to move files both on the
desktop and within File Explorer. This approach is natural and feels a lot
like physically transferring a paper document from one folder to another.
Open a folder in Explorer, left-click on a file, and hold down the mouse
button to perform a drag-and-drop operation. Then, use the left sidebar of
Explorer to drag the file to the directory you want to move it to. The "Move
to" tooltip will appear when you release the left mouse button.

While moving files with the sidebar is an option, there are instances when
it's easier to move files by launching a second Explorer window. Press the
Windows key + E hotkey twice to open two windows to accomplish this.
Next, drag the file into the chosen directory by navigating to it in a separate
window.
Use the Ctrl key to move several files using the drag-and-drop method.
Holding down the Ctrl key, choose the files you want to move first. Release
the Ctrl key after selecting the desired files. After that, select the files with a
left click, hold them, and drag them to the desired folder. As you drag, the
amount that is selected will be shown as a numerical indicator on the files.

How to Relocate Files Using the Cut and Paste

Method
Using two different actions, cutting and pasting enables you to move files
with ease. First, you use the "cut" command to extract a file from its present
position. The file then disappears from its original folder, and you can use
the "paste" command to move it to a different location. To cut and paste a
file in Explorer, follow these steps:

Click the library folder icon on the taskbar of the application to

open File Explorer.
Start by opening the folder that has the files you want to move.
Use your mouse to select a file to move.
Make use of the "Cut" option, which is represented by a scissors
button on the Explorer command bar.
Proceed to the directory where you want to move the cut file after you have
made your selection.
On the command bar, select the "Paste" button by clicking it. Before long,
the file will show up in the relocation folder that you have opened.

Another alternative is to use the context menu's cut-and-paste functions. To

move a file, use a right-click and select "Cut." Next, right-click on a folder
on the Windows desktop, then choose "Paste."

The keyboard shortcut for chopping files is Ctrl + X. Press this keyboard
shortcut to cut a file after selecting it. Then, you may use Ctrl + V to move
it to a different position.

How to Move Files with the Command Prompt

You can use text commands to move files by using the various file
management functions that the Command Prompt offers. Make sure the
paths to all files and folders are included in your commands. To transfer a
file using the Command Prompt, do the following steps:

Press the Windows logo and the S keys on your keyboard to

open the file and folder search window.
In the file search tool, enter "Command Prompt".
Click the "Run as administrator" link to launch the Command
Prompt application that you discovered in your search results.
To move a file, enter the following command:
change "full file path" to "full destination folder path"
Press Enter to move the file.
You will have to replace the target folder and file paths in the command
with their actual locations. To transfer a file called "photo.png" from the
Users folder to the Program Files directory, for example, the command
would be as follows:
relocate "C:\Users\photo.png" "C:\Program Files"

How to Move Files with PowerShell

By inputting commands that describe source and destination locations, you
can move files using PowerShell, another command-shell tool, like the
Command Prompt. Here's how to use PowerShell to relocate files:
Launch the Start menu in Windows 11 and type "PowerShell" into the
search bar. In the search results, right-click "Windows PowerShell" and
select "Run as administrator." Put the subsequent PowerShell command in:
Moving an item "full file path" or "full destination folder path"
Next, hit Enter to run the command and relocate the file.
The text enclosed in quotation marks has to be changed, just like in the
Command Prompt. Replace "full destination folder path" and "full file path"
with the actual paths to the file and folder when entering the command. For
example, the following is how the PowerShell command to move photo.png
might appear:
Move-Item "C:\Program Files" "C:\Users\photo.png"

How to Move Files Using the Send to Submenu on

the Context Menu
You can copy files to different locations using the Send to submenu in
Windows 11's classic context menu. Even though its main purpose is file
copying, you can take the following methods to use it to transfer files to
custom folders added to the Send to menu:

Launch File Explorer and go to the directory where the file you
want to relocate is located.
Click the file with a right-click and select "Show more options."
Click the "Send to" drop-down option.
• To preview transferring a file into a custom folder without selecting it,
move the cursor over it.
• To initiate the file transfer into a particular directory, click a custom folder
while holding down the Shift key.
It's crucial to remember that this method only works with manually added
directories by users. For more details on how to include folders in this
submenu, see a tutorial on adding shortcuts to the Send to menu.

Moving Files Using the "Move to" Context Menu

Option
You can choose a more specific "Move to folder" context menu option to
facilitate file movement. However, by default, Windows 11's context menu
doesn't include this option. You'll need to add it, as detailed in our guide on
adding a "Move to folder" context menu option.
After successfully adding the "Move to folder" context menu option, right-
click a file on the desktop or within File Explorer. Choose "Show more
options," then click "Move to folder" to open a navigation window. Select
the desired directory to move the file to and click "Move."
7. How to Automatically Move Files
To automatically move files to a different folder, you can create a batch file,
as Windows doesn't offer built-in options for automatically moving files.
Check out our guide on automatically moving files, which provides
instructions for setting up such a script on both Windows and Mac
platforms.

How to Create Zip Files and Unzip Files on

Windows 11
Generate Zip Files
Generating these files aids in compressing sizable files and enables the
merging of multiple folders. The procedure is uncomplicated, and you can
proceed by following the steps outlined below:
Step 1: Navigate to the location where the data you want to compress is
stored.
Step 2: If you intend to compress multiple files or folders, consolidate them
into a single folder. [If not, you can proceed to step 3 directly.] Follow these
steps:

Right-click on the screen.

Hover the cursor over New.
Select Folder.
A new folder is created; transfer the files or folder into this
newly created folder.
Step 3: Presently, right-click on the file or folder you intend to compress.
Step 4: Choose "Compress to ZIP file."

Step 5: After the creation of the ZIP file, feel free to rename it according to
your preference.
Extract ZIP File
You might find the need to extract a ZIP file, especially when someone
sends a zipped folder. The process is as straightforward as creating zip files.

Right-click on the zipped file and choose "Extract All."

Choose the destination where you'd like the extracted data to be

stored.
Click on "Extract."
CHAPTER 11

THE WINDOWS 11 MAIL APP

How to connect your email address to the
Windows 11 Mail app

The Windows Store offers a plethora of apps, and Mail is one of the pre-
installed programs in Windows 11. This eliminates the need to navigate
between browser pages by offering a handy way to access several email
accounts in one place. You must link the email accounts you want to view
mail from to the app to use this function. How to do this is explained in the
steps that follow.

How to find the Windows 11 Mail app

On the taskbar at the bottom of your screen, you will observe a blue
Windows icon.
Upon clicking the icon, a menu will appear. Locate the envelope icon
labeled "Mail."
Adding emails to the Windows 11 Mail app
A list of email servers to add will show up in a new window that opens
when you click the Mail button. Select the option that matches your email
address. As an alternative, you can use Outlook to create a new email
address if necessary.

After choosing your email server, proceed to follow the prompts to log in to
your email and grant the required permissions.
Once logged in, your emails will start to auto-populate. Please allow a few
minutes for all the emails to be retrieved.
To add a second account, click on the person icon to access "Accounts."
A new window titled "Manage accounts" will open, and at the bottom,
you'll find an "Add account" option. Repeat the steps you followed to add
the first account.

On the Mail app's left-side menu, you may verify the linkage between your
connected accounts. After connecting all of the appropriate accounts, repeat
this step and enjoy using Windows 11's Mail app to access them all in one
location.
CHAPTER 12

WINDOWS 11 TRICKS YOU NEED TO KNOW

If you choose to switch to Windows 11, you'll notice a well-designed
redesigned interface with softened program corners and a centered taskbar
that looks similar to Chrome OS. Although the fundamental operating
system is still essentially the same, you should become acquainted with
certain notable new features. The following advice is intended to make the
move from Windows 10 as seamless as possible.

Center the Start Button

The Start button's new location is the first obvious modification. It was once
located in the lower-left corner of the screen, but it is now centered on the
taskbar with the other icons.
You can get to Taskbar Settings by right-clicking on the taskbar and
selecting Return to Original Layout. To change the Taskbar Alignment to
the Left, select the Taskbar Behaviors drop-down menu.
This moves the icons in your taskbar to the left, putting the Start button
back where it was.

Expand Your Right-Click Menu with Additional

Options

A simplified right-click menu highlights the most important settings. Click

"Show more options" to reveal an expanded menu if you need more
options, including printing, altering the backdrop, or viewing the entire file
location.

Personalize the Quick Settings Panel

Windows 11 separates the functionalities of the Action Center's
notifications and Quick Settings. To open the settings menu, click the area
on the taskbar that contains the icons for the speaker, battery, and Wi-Fi.
You can control Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, airplane mode, battery-saving mode, and
other settings from this menu. To add or remove settings buttons, click the
"Edit quick settings" button, which has the shape of a pencil. Click "Add"
to add new features to the Quick Settings menu, or unpin any unwanted
choices.

Effortlessly Create and Organize Multiple

Desktops
Microsoft made it easier to create and manage numerous desktops by
replacing the outdated Task View button with a revamped taskbar icon. To
see any open virtual desktops or to start a new one, hover over the symbol.
Apps may be dragged from one desktop onto another and these desktops are
easily reconfigured.
Use a variety of wallpapers to personalize each virtual desktop. To set a
different background for every desktop, right-click on the desktop, select
Personalize, and then Background. Keep in mind that this change only
affects the Background option—themes are not affected. Selecting a theme
will apply it to all virtual desktops; however, you can customize the
backdrop of each desktop separately once the theme has been applied,
creating a seamless cross-fade effect while navigating between them.

Gather Your Widgets

Windows 10 brought us widgets, but Windows 11 goes beyond. You can
check the weather, receive sports scores, monitor market prices, watch local
traffic, manage your Outlook calendar, cross items off your to-do list, and
stay informed about news and events using the new Widgets icon on the
taskbar. These widgets are also customizable; you may move them on the
page and use Microsoft News to adjust your newsfeed choices. Recent
Windows 11 preview editions have included third-party widgets to the
panel, like Facebook Messenger and Spotify. There will be an update soon
with these available.

Discover Innovative Window Layout Snapping

Techniques
Microsoft has included the snap and resize feature since Windows 7.
Windows 11 enhances this feature further with Snap Layouts. You can still
drag windows to the corners and borders of half- and quarter-screen layouts.
On the other hand, when you hover over the Maximize button in Windows
11, a hover menu appears with extra layout possibilities. These options may
be one massive window on the left, two stacked on the right, or three in a
row, depending on the size of your display.
Click to arrange your apps in the order you've chosen after making your
selection. If you'd like, you can disable this behavior in Settings.
Additionally, you can utilize keyboard keys to swiftly snap windows. For
instance, by hitting the Windows Key + Left Arrow, you can snap a window
to the left half of the screen.

Chat With Teams

Windows 11 effortlessly integrates Microsoft Teams, a free messaging,

phone, and videoconferencing program. With a new Chat icon on the
taskbar, you can start video conferences and chats without opening the
Microsoft Teams program. Invitations can be sent via email or text to
people who are not Teams users, even though you can sync your contacts
using the Teams mobile app. In addition, contacts can have SMS chats with
you even if they are not Teams members, and they can participate in a web
connection video chat.
Boost Your Productivity with Focus Sessions

There are many distractions at work due to the constant barrage of

communications and video conversations. The Focus Sessions feature in
Windows 11 encourages you to schedule time for tasks that need sustained
intense focus. It's presently available in the revised Alarms & Clock app
and provides a simple way to block out at least thirty minutes for work
without distractions. The app will automatically schedule a five-minute
break in the middle of your intense work period once your 45-minute
session is up.

Add Tabs to File Explorer

The addition of tabs to File Explorer—a feature that macOS users have
been utilizing with Finder for a while—is a noteworthy feature of the
Windows 11 22H2 update. Tabs are provided, so you don't need to clog
your desktop with extra windows when you see numerous File Explorer
windows open at once. All you have to do is right-click on a folder to
"Open in New Tab," just like you would in a web browser.
Files can be dragged between tabs by selecting the desired tab and then
dropping the file into the tab's file list. Similar to web browsers, tabs can be
changed by sliding them sideways. The Alt-Left Arrow can be used to
navigate backward within a tab.
Microsoft redesigned the File Explorer menu's ribbon to make using it
easier in the first version of Windows 11. It is no longer necessary to go
through numerous infrequently used menus to access often used functions
like Cut, Copy, Paste, Rename, Share, Delete, Sort, and View thanks to the
prominent buttons at the top of the screen. Additionally, Windows 11 adds a
new button that lets you quickly make new documents, folders, and
shortcuts depending on installed apps. The accessible buttons are
dynamically adjusted based on the situation; for example, a button labeled
"Search Options" appears when you search in the right-hand search box.

Pair Input/Output Devices

With features like mono audio and improved audio modes, Windows 11
gives you more control over the audio output. To combine the left and right
audio channels, select the Mono audio option under Settings > System >
Sound.

View the App List

There's an extra step involved in seeing your entire list of installed apps in
Windows 11. You must click the All-Apps option in the Pinned part of the
Start menu, rather than viewing the App List together with live tiles
immediately. You can then use this action to search for a specific app or to
browse the list.

Add Apps to the Start Menu

Windows 11 has replaced Live Tiles with a more simplified Start menu that
lets you pin apps for easy access. To add an app to the Pinned section, open
the App List, right-click on an app, and select Pin to Start. Then, drag the
application to the location you want it to be. Right-click and choose Unpin
from Start to remove programs.
A more modern feature that was included in a Windows 11 upgrade lets you
create folders by just dragging icons on top of one another; this works
similarly to how mobile operating systems do it. You can also change the
proportional sizes of the Recommended and Pinned icons.

Customize the Start Menu

When you hit the Start button in Windows 10, the Settings button appears
above it. In Windows 11, this configuration is different, though. Go to
Settings > Personalization > Start > Folders to bring back the Settings
button. You can also add icons to this menu for the Network, File Explorer,
and other frequently used folders.

Get Better Recommendations

An area labeled "Recommended" on the revamped Start menu lists recently
used programs and folders. Go to Settings > Personalization > Start to
customize the content in this section. From there, you may tell Windows to
stop showing recently opened, recently installed, or often used apps in the
App List, Start menu, and other places.

Change Default Apps

Setting a default application is simple in Windows 10, but in Windows 11,

it gets more complicated and you have to specify a default application for
every kind of file. Open the Settings app and select the Apps category from
the menu on the left. After selecting Default apps, you'll be shown a list of
all the file kinds that the selected app can handle. Click on the app you want
to designate as the default for a certain file type. Select an app from the
menu that appears after clicking on the chosen file type.

Enhance Battery Visualization

Windows 11 is superior to its predecessor because it has greater tools for
visualizing battery utilization data. Go to Settings > System > Power &
battery to access the Battery Use tab. This graph displays the amount of
power you have been using in the last several days or hours. Below the
chart, a list of apps together with their corresponding power usage is
displayed. Similar to iPhones and Android devices, you can take action
by sleeping and turning off any software that you detect to be using
excessive amounts of power.
While Windows Key-A opens the Quick Settings, Windows Key-Z
opens Snap Layouts, Windows Key-K initiates media casting, and
Windows Key-W opens the Widgets panel. These are Windows 11's new
keyboard shortcuts.

Activate the Game Bar

Capture Audio Using the Newly Implemented
Sound Recorder App

Replaced by the Voice Recorder in Windows 11, the Sound Recorder has an
updated interface with waveform displays and more input options. It can
record audio in AAC, MP3, WMA, FLAC, and WAV among other formats,
but it is still fairly basic and does not have audio trimming capabilities.
Experience Audio and Video Playback Using the
Updated Media Player

The Groove app was superseded by Windows 11's improved Media Player,
which is still a fun way to play music and films. Although it still requires
the older Media Player as of this writing, its UI is more user-friendly.

Turn on Windows Title Bar Shake

This is an old tip from Windows versions past; it is not activated by default
in Windows 11. You can use an option that allows you to shake the window
at the top to dismiss all other windows. This is a feature we frequently use
to clear clutter from our cluttered desktops and concentrate attention on the
open window.

TOUCH GESTURES FOR WINDOWS 11

Touch Gestures
The touch screen of your Windows 11 device supports these motions. Go to
Start > Settings > Bluetooth & Devices > Touch > Three- and Four-Finger
