The role of a reading support officer is to deliver online read aloud sessions to students assigned to
Reading support officers are to model reading in English or/and Maltese, on a one-to-one basis, from
their home with their learners via MS Teams. They will utilize their personal laptop/tablet (with a
functioning camera and microphone) to carry out sessions. Reading support officers are to ensure a
good Wi-Fi connection, access to Microsoft Teams and a quiet clear space to deliver sessions.
Books and resources needed for the implementation of this reading programme may be borrowed
from the NLA’s Literacy Resource Centres, located in Ħamrun and Sannat Gozo. Arrangements may
also be done for the books to be posted or delivered free of charge by the NLA to the home address
of the Reading support officer. It is the responsibility of the reading support officer to ensure that all
the books provided by the NLA are returned in their original condition and handed in by the stipulated
time.
A detailed session plan and a record of work should be filled in by the reading support officer. All
session plans and the record of work, duly signed, must then be forwarded by email to the Senior
