I n a week brimming with notable actions and initiatives, President


Bola Tinubu has once again demonstrated his unwavering
commitment to advancing the welfare of Nigerians and steering
the nation towards greater prosperity and development.

Firstly, the President's proactive approach to enhancing the


judiciary's effectiveness and welfare is evident in the approval of
increased salaries, allowances, and benefits for judicial officers. This
significant move by the House of Representatives aligns with
President Tinubu's vision of upholding the rule of law and ensuring
the judiciary's independence, thereby bolstering confidence in the
justice system.

Furthermore, the passage of the Student Loans (Access to Higher


Education) Act (Repeal and Re-Enactment) Bill, 2024 by the Nigerian
Senate underscores the President's commitment to expanding
access to quality education for all Nigerians. By facilitating easy access
to higher education through interest-free loans, President Tinubu

Furthermore, the President's appointment of a new leadership team


for the National Commission for Almajiri and Out-of-School
Children Education highlights his administration's dedication to
addressing the challenges faced by vulnerable groups. President

Education Support Initiative:


Nasarawa State Government to
Sponsor NECO Fees for Final
Year Students
In a bid to alleviate the financial
burden on families and support
education, the Nasarawa State
Government, under the leadership of
Governor Abdullahi Sule, has
announced plans to cover the registration fees for the 2024 National
Examinations Council (NECO) for all final year students in public
schools.

Governor Sule disclosed this while inaugurating four newly


appointed permanent secretaries and the executive chairman along
with members of the Nasarawa State Disabilities Rights Commission.
He reiterated the government's commitment to providing relief to
students by distributing food items as part of palliative measures.

Acknowledging the economic challenges faced by Nigerians,


Governor Sule emphasised the importance of government
intervention to mitigate hardships. He reassured the public that
efforts are underway to enhance industrialisation and agricultural
activities, providing sustainable solutions to alleviate the effects of
economic hardships.

Furthermore, Governor Sule highlighted the state's initiatives in


agricultural development, including plans to acquire 10,000 hectares
of land for rice and maize production. He emphasised the importance
of proactive measures to address both immediate needs through
palliatives and long-term solutions through economic

The inauguration of the Nasarawa State Disabilities Rights

to extend palliatives distribution
to students in tertiary institutions
to alleviate the prevailing hardship
faced by families. At an emergency
State Executive Council meeting, the governor acknowledged the
success of the palliative distribution programme and emphasised the
need to include tertiary institution students as beneficiaries,
especially during Ramadan.

Governor Sule instructed state organs to identify and reach out to


students accordingly, recognising the financial burden on parents
struggling to pay school fees. He also highlighted the importance of
supporting final year secondary school students and commended the
state palliative distribution committee for their efforts.

Governor Abdullahi A. Sule of
Nasarawa State visited the Federal
University of Lafia (FuLafia) to
distribute palliatives to 4,000 students
in light of the current economic
challenges facing Nigerians. At the
FuLafia sports complex, the governor distributed 8,000 bags of 7.5kg
rice, benefiting 4,000 students. Additionally, he provided the
university management with twenty million naira (20,000,000) to be
distributed among the students, with each beneficiary receiving 5,000
naira.

This initiative reflects Governor Sule's commitment to supporting


students and alleviating economic hardships within the state. By
providing essential food items and financial assistance, the governor
aims to ease the burden on students and ensure their well-being
during challenging times.

Nasarawa State's Plan for Food


Security
Nasarawa State Government unveiled
plans to acquire 10,000 hectares of land
to fully participate in the Federal
Government's food security program.
Governor Abdullahi Sule disclosed this
in Lafia, emphasising the state's role in achieving the national food
security agenda.

President Bola Tinubu had earlier announced the Federal


Government's initiative to cultivate about 500,000 hectares of
farmland to combat hunger in the country.

Governor Sule revealed Nasarawa State's intention to cultivate


10,000 hectares of land for the production of a chosen crop, seeking
support from the State Executive Council to acquire the required
land. The initiative aims to utilise available resources and boost
agricultural productivity in the state.

Furthermore, the National Agricultural Land Development Agency


(NALDA) has supported poultry farmers in the state and plans to
assist additional farmers with farm inputs, demonstrating
collaborative efforts to enhance food security and agricultural
development in Nasarawa State.

by the construction of the Lafia Eastern Bypass.

The gathering, held to foster dialogue and collaboration, aimed to


address concerns and gather feedback from the affected
communities regarding the proposed infrastructure project.
Governor Sule emphasized the importance of community
involvement in such developmental initiatives, ensuring that the
concerns of residents are heard and addressed effectively.

Deadline for Relocation of
RoadsideTraders
In a bid to enhance urban aesthetics
and ensure safety, the Nasarawa
State government has issued a four-
day ultimatum to roadside traders in
Lafia, the state capital, to relocate to
designated neighborhood or main
markets. The announcement was made by Abdullahi Bala, General
Manager of the Nasarawa State Youth Empowerment Agency
(NAYEA), during an awareness campaign in Lafia on Thursday.

Bala clarified that this directive aligns with the state government's
prohibition of roadside trading in the capital. Effective enforcement
will commence from Monday, March 25, 2024. He emphasised that
traders must vacate the roadside by Sunday, March 24, to avoid legal
repercussions.

Furthermore, Bala admonished against the unauthorised parking of


heavy-duty vehicles on the roadside, reiterating that such actions
contravene state regulations. The government's proactive measures
aim to enhance urban planning, promote safety, and streamline
economic activities within the state capital.

In a meeting between Nasarawa State Governor, Engr. Abdullahi A.
