MRS. MARICRIS C. BUENAAGUA

Principal II
Siruma National High School

Dear Ma’am Buenaagua,

Pax Vobiscum!

We, the student at University of Nueva Caceres – School of Graduate Studies under the Master
of Arts in Education major in Educational Leadership and Management would like to facilitate
assessment in Grade 7 Mathematics Learners through our Pioneers Assist Others (PAO)
Strategy as part of our project.

The University of Nueva Caceres – School of Graduate Studies is using the Problem-Research-
Outcome-Based-Education (PROBE) as its instructional design (ID). This ID could give life to
the guiding principle of UNC, which is captured in its motto “Non Scholae, Sed Vitae” “Not of
School, But of Life”. This can create possibilities for our communities via research and upholds
the relevance of research in providing innovative solutions to reconstruct the community
continuously. We conferred to choose your school to be the collaborator of this project.

Attached herewith is the project proposal for our PROBE Project.

We are hoping for your approval and understanding. Together we can create supportive, engaged
communities and productive partnership that will help us in our mission which is to engage and
share responsibility in developing lifelong learners especially in Mathematics.

Thank you very much and Godspeed!

Respectfully yours,

JOHN EMMANUEL P. FEDERIS

PROJECT PROPOSAL
I. Project Title:

“Pioneers Assist Others (PAO) Strategy: Its Effects to Numeracy Skills of Grade 7
Students of Siruma National High School”

II. Background/Rationale:
Numeracy is the ability to recognize and apply Mathematical concepts in all areas of
life. Alongside with literacy, numeracy is also a vital skill that a student must learn. To
develop this skill, various strategy was being used in different school. One of the
strategies is peer mentoring or peer tutoring.
Peer tutoring is an instructional strategy that consists of student partnerships which
links high achieving students with lower achieving students or those with comparable
achievement. This strategy is used for structured reading and math study sessions. This
strategy has been widely used by educators in lower and higher education because many
studies about the implementation and assessment of the said strategy showed promising
results. It becomes evident that the best way to master a subject is to teach it.
Based on the conducted assessment in Mathematics using Numeracy Assessment
Tool for Grade 7 at Siruma National High School, it shows that Grade 7 students has low
numeracy rate. It also reflects to their academic performance in school. This situation
leads for the researcher to conduct a study which is called Pioneers Assist Others (PAO)
Learning Strategy: It’s Effect to Numeracy of Grade 7 Students that aims to help the
subject teachers in Mathematics of Siruma National High School to uplift the numeracy
rate and academic performance of Grade 7 students at the school.
III. Project Objectives:
This project aimed to:
 To develop a learning strategy to enhance numeracy skills of students.
 To effectively conduct and implement the learning strategies to enhance the
academic of performance of students.
 To measure the effectivity of “Pioneers Assist Others (PAO) Strategy: Its
Effects to Numeracy Skills of Grade 7 Students of Siruma National High
School”.

IV. Project Outputs:

 Increased the performance level of the students in Mathematics

 Provide new strategy for the Mathematics Teachers of Siruma National High
School to improve the performance level of the students.
 Evaluated effectivity level of Pioneers Assists Others (PAO) Learning Strategy.

V. Implementation Strategies/Activities:

 Discuss with the group regarding the development of a learning strategies to

enhance numeracy skills of Grade 7 students of Siruma National High School.
 Division of labor.
