STATEMENT OF PURPOSE

Dean’s Student Leadership Circle

Great Lakes Institute of Management brings together culturally diverse, innovative and
intellectual minds from different backgrounds together under one umbrella and offers a life-
changing experience by providing plenty of opportunities to grow and become the leaders of
tomorrow. The institute embraces diversity and uses it to facilitate cross fertilization of ideas,
thus, lifting the levels of thought.
Authors Liz Fosslien and Mollie West Duffy say, “Diversity is having a seat at the table,
inclusion is having a voice and belonging is having that voice be heard”. This quote makes
me believe that the Dean’s Student Leadership Circle ensures that the diverse student
community of the institute has a voice (included) and it is heard (belongingness).

I am a person who believes in

- taking initiatives,
- teamwork,
- collaboration and
- collective growth.

DSLC will help me put my beliefs into practical use, when I get the opportunity to organize
events for the student community prompting a sense of inclusion and belongingness among
them. By being able to organize and lead campaigns for a cause under the guidance of the
Dean himself, I might be able to bring a change, however small, for the good and at the same
time contribute to enhancing the branding of the institution.

With myself, I wish to bring some inputs for the circle. I am of the view point that people and
their experiences teach you more than books, since our college has brilliant academicians and
talented set of diverse students, we can have Human Library sessions wherein people talk
about their experiences and life journeys.

I am sure that if I get an opportunity to be a part of this Circle, it will not only help me
exponentially hone skills like leadership, commitment and teamwork, but also provide me
mentorship of the Dean that will certainly add value to my existing competences.
