● Your team leader will be in charge of
using the whiteboard first. When
moving to the next problem, pass the
whiteboard to the person sits on your
left.
○ Whiteboard: You will work together
to solve each problem on the
worksheet first, then write your
solutions (with steps) on the
whiteboard.
Instruction: Math Poker Challenge
● Each review problem is worth a poker card.
● The 1st team that solves the problem
correctly (show full work) will get the card.
○ When your whole table’s done with
solving the problem, send the person
who is in charge of the whiteboard to
check your answer with me.
■ I will let you know whether your
answer is correct by saying: “yes”
or “no”, and provide hints to
where to change.
Instruction: Calculating Team Scores
Poker Cards:
○ If a problem is worth an “ace”
(A): Your team wins 3 pts.
○ If a problem is worth a “face
card” (King (K), Queen (Q), or
Jack (J)): Your team wins 2 pts.
○ If a problem is worth a
“numbered card” (2~10): Your
team wins 1 pts.
Instruction: Bonus Points
● Bonus pts (card combinations): 3 Card Poker Rule
○ Straight Flush (+3 pts): 3 consecutive cards of the same suit (EX: 5♣ 6♣
7♣).
○ Three of a Kind (+2.5 pts): 3 cards of the same rank (EX: 9♠ 9♦ 9♥).
○ Straight (+2 pts): 3 consecutive cards not all in the same suit (Ex: 4♦ 5♠
6♣).
○ Flush (+1.5 pts): 3 cards of the same suit, not in sequence (EX: 2♥ 7♥
10♥).
○ One Pair (+1 pts): Two cards of the same rank, plus one unmatched card
(EX: Q♠ Q♦ 4♣).
○ Three Odd Cards (+0.5 pts): 3 cards that do not form any of the above
combinations (EX: 3♠ 7♦ K♣).
● Goal: With your team, try to solve as many problems as you can, and form
