As you can see on the screen my presentation is called: “How to make a good

impression in a virtual job interview”

Virtual interviews can be quite different from in-person interviews, and making
a lasting impression on a virtual interviewer can be more challenging.
However, with the right tips and tricks, you can make a great impression
during your virtual interview and prove that you are the ideal candidate for the
job.
/
Virtual interviews are becoming more common as employers look for ways to save time and
money, and as candidates seek more flexible and convenient opportunities. However, this
also means that you need to adapt your interview skills to the online environment and stand
out from the crowd. Here are some tips on how to make a lasting impression in a virtual
interview.

And today, I'm going to share these tips with you. The first one is to prepare in
advance.

1.Prepare in advance
As with any interview, you will get the best results if you take the time to
prepare in advance. Just because you are in front of your computer does not
mean you should rely on the ability to quickly look up answers or rely on pre-
written answers you can refer to. You should prepare so you are able to have
a natural conversation.(without clicking around or reading directly from a
script, which can seem rehearsed and unnatural.)

The next tip is to prepare your technology

3.Prepare your technology

Before the interview, make sure that you have a reliable internet connection, a
good webcam, a high-quality microphone, and a suitable software platform.
Also, choose a quiet, well-lit, and professional-looking background for your
video. Avoid distractions and interruptions from other people, pets, or devices.

4. Have backup ready

When preparing for an online interview, ensure you have backup equipment
and resources available. For example, have a backup internet or hotspot, an
extra device such as a laptop, tablet, or cell phone and a pair of headphones
ready in case there's an issue with your main connection or device. In such
instances, you can use the backup resources to continue with the interview

Let’s now move on to

5 Dress for success

Even though you are not meeting your interviewer in person, you still need to
dress appropriately for the role and the company culture.Wear clean clothes
and style your hair as you would for an in-person interview to feel more
confident . Avoid bright colors, patterns, or accessories that might distract
from your face or your message.

One of the best online interview tips I can give you is to maintain proper eye
contact during a virtual interview. (Eye contact is crucial for establishing trust
and connection, but it can be tricky in a virtual interview.) You might be
tempted to look at yourself, the interviewer, or other distractions on the
screen, but that can make you seem distracted or uninterested. The best way
to maintain eye contact is to look at the camera, not the screen. This will make
you appear more attentive and engaged.

7. Take notes
Keeping a notebook and pen next to your computer lets you quickly write
down important information during the interview. You can also open a
document and take notes on the computer. Whichever method you choose,
alert the interviewer that you're taking notes so they don't mistake your activity
for disinterest.

8.Explain any long pauses

Because of the various limitations of video calls, it might not always be clear to
your interviewer what you’re doing if no one is speaking. Tell them if you’re
pausing to write down a few notes, pull up some information for them, or even
just formulate your answer to a question. This shows that you’re aware of their
experience while also reassuring them that no technical glitches have
occurred.
Ask questions

Interviewers usually end interviews with the question, “Do you have any
questions?” or “Is there anything you’d like to ask?”.This is your cue to ask
questions and show that you are actually interested. Instead of trying to be
polite and saying, “All clear,” take the opportunity and ask about anything not
included in the job description.)

9.Thank the interviewer for their time

This is another small gesture that can make a big impact. Thanking them for
their time at the end of the interview shows that you’re appreciative and
interested in the position. It also leaves a good first impression!
After the interview, send them an email thanking them again for the
opportunity. This will help solidify your place as a top candidate.

CONCLUSION
There’s no doubt that online interviews are here to stay. Even in the
workplace, video conferencing has become a common mode of
communication with colleagues, clients and business associates.
Put in the time to research, practise and prepare for your job interview. To sell
yourself in a video interview, it’s always better to be overprepared than leaving
things to chance.

Although video calls can limit the ability to communicate through body
language, there are a few things you can do to give off a good impression.
Looking at the camera instead of the bottom of the screen and sitting upright
at your desk will project confidence, helping the interviewer trust what you
are saying. Smiling and nodding will also show you’re listening and present
your enthusiasm for the job. (?)
