OPERATING & INSTRUCTION MANUAL

FOR
CONTITHERM – COMBUSTION SYSTEM(Oil Burner)

LIGHT UP & ADJUSTMENT

1. Make Sure all fuel shut-off valves are closed. Open furnace door and dampers.

2. Start Blower and check direction of rotation. Care should be taken that the discharge or the suction of the blower is
closed during start up.

3. Start Outflow heater, Oil pumps and line heater and circulate oil through the ring main. Oil Temperature should be
in the range of 100 to 110o C for 1500 secs. Redwood No. 1 oil and 80 to 95o C for 600 secs. Redwood No. 1 oil
and oil pressure at the Ratiotrol 25 to 30 psi.

4. Open burner air valves and zone control valves wide for purging the furnace.

5. When the Furnace is purged of all combustible gases, turndown the air control butterfly valve to ¼ or less open
(Low Fire Position), leaving individual main and atomising air butterfly valves fully open.

6. Insert a torch through the pilot hole opening in the mounting plate and gradually open Microtrol oil valve till burner
lights up.

Note : If Burner does not light up within 15 to 20 seconds, close Microtrol oil valve and purge the furnace before
trying to light up again.

7. After burner is lit, gradually open zone air butterfly control valve till the burner has reached high fire condition. Set
air/fuel ratio by adjusting the Microtrol oil valve. This is the “HIGH FIRE” setting. Gradually close the zone air
butterfly valve to ¼ or less open, loosen the spring catridge lock-nut and adjust spring catridge of the Ratiotrol to
set air fuel ratio. This is the “LOW FIRE” setting. Gradually increase to high fire and adjust the Microtrol valve if
required. Lock the microtrol oil valve by tightening grub screw provided on the valve bonnet. Also move indicator
to Microtrol handle position. This acts as high fire position indicator. The air-fuel ratio of the burner is now set.

CAUTION

1. Never light-up burner from hot brick work.

2. Never light-up burner from another burner.

SHUT DOWN PROCEDURE

1. Shut-off oil to burner by closing oil shut-off valve.

2. Shut-off pumping unit.

3. Do not shut combustion and atomising air. Radiated heat from the furnace can damage burners and also carbonize
oil in the oil nozzle.

4. Open dampers to purge furnace.

5. Shut off main air after the furnace has cooled down, but allow atomising air to flow for another 15 minutes.

INSTALLATION

1. The Oil should always be piped from below the burner centerline.

2. The difference in elevation between the burner centre line and Ratiotrol should not be more than 300 mm (12”)

3. The Impulse tapping should be at least 5 air pipe diameters away from the air butterfly valve and 3 pipe diameters
before any bend or construction. In cases where there are space limitations then install the impulse tap parallel to
the butterfly valve shaft.

4. For impulse line use half inch pipe reduced to ¼” at the Ratiotrol.

5. Air pipe lines should always be piped from burner top or side but never from the bottom to avoid possibility of oil
dripping into the air pipelines.

6. For burner block installation refer to enclosed sheet AM-10 for bricklined wall and DF-M2 for ceramic fibre lined
wall.

7. For mounting dimensions, weight and other installation details, refer to the product bulletin.
