ALONG THE ENTRANCE OF THE TUNNEL INTAKE SHUTTER OPERATING

The Parambikulam Aliyar Project (PAP) is a multipurpose and interstate river valley
project, which is an outcome of a hard and sustained work done by a band of enthusiastic and
dynamic Engineers, to divert the west flowing rivers and conveyance to the East side with the
series of Reservoirs, tunnels and conveyance media mainly to provide irrigation facilities to
the drought prone areas in Coimbatore, Erode and Tirupur Districts. In addition to irrigation
supply, the project contemplates generation of hydro power both in Tamil Nadu and Kerala
states and stabilization of existing irrigation systems.
SHOLAYAR DAM:
The Sholayar Reservoir, which is essentially a part of the comprehensive
Parambikulam Aliyar Project, act as a Heart of this project and benefits both Kerala and
Tamilnadu States.
The approach road leading to PH 1 Urulikkal Tunnel and Operating arrangement at
Urulikkal is being maintained by Tunnel section, Sholayar Dam Sub Division, Sholayar
Nagar.
The PH I Tunnel Entry Urulikkal is equipped with hoisting arrangements for operating
Service and emergency gate through which water will be discharged to Power House I
Manampalli for power generation and after generation of power discharging water through
Parambikulam Dam.
The PH I Urulikkal tunnel entry road which is of 550.00 m in length and it is necessary
for operating the Intake shutter when ever need arises. Along t he approach of PH I tunnel entry
at the location of @ LS 90m the soil mass at the side retaining portion gets continuously saturated at
the time of heavy rain and it leads to land slips and which in turn may affect the approaching of PH I
Operating platform. As on initiative to retain the soil mass along the stretch, retaining wall to be
provided in order to avoid further slippage of earth. Providing drainage and additional culvert may
drain the rain water properly without any stagnation along leading approach
Therefore, the providing the retaining wall and drains along the approach leading to
the PH I entry is very essential to maintain the road without damage
 This estimate comprises of the following items of work
1. Earthwork excavation for foundation
2. Plain Cement Concrete 1:3:6.
3. Supplying and erecting centering for Base slab.
4. Plain Cement Concrete 1:2:4.
5. Supplying and erecting centering for stem wall and side walls
6. Laying and fixing R.C.C Hume Pipe
7. Supplying and Fixing 110 mm dia PVC pipe

The above provisions that have been made in this estimate are absolutely necessary to
up keep the PH I Entry approach leading in good condition for which the better operation of
shutter.
This estimate is prepared based on the current schedule of rates for the year 2022-23
and works out to Rs.20,10,000. Necessary approval sanction may please be given for the
proposal.
