FORMS OF BULLYING- HOW TO FIGHT IT

1. Friendly approaches
2. Good Morning, Your Majesty!
3. Rainforest
4. Conflicting situations
5. Bullying

1. A. Form a circle of people, everybody says their first name adding an adjective and a sound/movement/gesture 5 min
B. In the same circle, everybody “shortens” their name by using one syllable, but doubling it (e.g. Maria= Ma-Ma). One of them starts with
their own name and then names someone else, who will do the same etc. When they say their name, they clap their hands in rhythm with the
syllables; when they say the other name they pat their legs and take one step to the left. Everybody does the moves but they chant in turn.
10 min
2. Form 2 rows of people (mixed, boys and girls, randomly), facing each other; one row has an extra person (6 and 7 or so). The boys bow to the
girls and say “Good morning, Your Majesty (name)”, adding the name of the girl, the girls use the royal salute (all at the same time). The row with 1
more person moves 1 step after each greeting and repeat. The boys must not bow to other boys. Then they change the roles: girls bow to the boys,
the boys use the royal salute. Anyone who makes mistakes is eliminated. 10 min
3. Form a semi-circle, the first action will start at one end and incorporate everybody until it gets to the other end, then the first person there
changes the action and is followed by all the others in turn up to the other end and so on. After the actions have all been done, they reverse them
until it ends. The four actions: snap fingers, pat palm with 2 fingers, pat legs, stomp feet. Not in rhythm! 10 min
4. The group is separated into 4 smaller groups of 3 or 4; each group gets a different situation, they have 5-10 minutes to discuss it and decide on
the conflict and a solution to it, then will present the improvised moment in turn. They cannot make notes or write a script. The use of physical vio -
lence is forbidden. 25 min
Situations:
The elevator. Draw a square/rectangle the size of an elevator on the floor. Three people enter the elevator together; their destination is the top floor
of the block of flats. One presses the button and the elevator starts, but suddenly, on a given signal, it gets stuck. They must react to the situation,
each in their own way. They can choose to keep silent while reacting, or they can start conversation. Restart the elevator after they have developed a
conflicting situation and have solved it. Elevator background music can be used.
The bus stop. Three people, who don’t know each other, have been waiting for a bus for some time. Keep them waiting and watch them react to the
situation. The bus comes but it’s full and only one passenger is allowed; the 3 try to find a way to get on the bus, but it suddenly leaves and they
must find an ending to this situation.
The clothes shop. Three people are in the shop, they all want to buy the same T-shirt, which is the last item of this type in the shop. They have to
persuade each other to give up so they can buy it. Let them develop the situation and solve it.
At the dentist. Four participants, one is the dentist, sitting a bit aside. The other 3 are waiting for their turn to see the dentist. Each of them must
persuade the others that their situation is the most desperate so that they can get in first. After they have decided which one of them is the first, the
dentist intervenes and chooses another person than the one they chose.
Discussions- how did they feel?
5.Bullying 30 min
Three boys and three girls are selected, each of them receives a handout with details about their character. The handout includes the per -
sonal issues and the story behind them. They cannot discuss with each other but have about 5 minutes to think (individually) about the way
they behave with each other, based on their character description. After the 5 min of preparation, they start interacting to improvise a
scene in which one of them is bullied and have to find an ending to the situation. They cannot give personal information about their issues
but must make it clear what kind or person they are. Location- at school, during the break. They are all in the 9 th grade.
The rest of the group are the audience, they have to guess why each character behaves that way and evaluate the whole situation.
After the improvised moment they will all discuss about it, and they will find out the truth about each character by asking them questions.
