Question # 1: [15 points] Two UNB students agree to meet at the Science Library between 7pm to 8pm next

the probability that they will meet if they arrive at the Science Library between 7pm to 8pm next evening
randomly?

Question # 2: [10 points] Excerpt from the TV show, the Rockford Files:

ROCKFORD: There are only two doctors in town. The chances of both autopsies being performed by the same
doctor are 50 - 50.
REPORTER: No, that is only for one autopsy. For two autopsies, the chances are 25-75.
ROCKFORD: You're right.

Was Rockford right to agree with the reporter? Explain why or why not?

Question # 3:

(b) [10 points] If a number is randomly selected from the collection of all six-digit numbers, what is the probability that
this number contains the digit 3?

(a) [4 points] What are the 16 outcomes in S.
(b) [4 points] List all outcomes in the event A that exactly three of the selected mortgages are fixed rate.
(c) [4 points] List all outcomes in the event B that all four mortgages are of the same type.
(d) [4 points] List all outcomes in the event C that at most one of the four is a variable-rate mortgages.
(e) [10 points] List outcomes in (B or C), (both B and C), (A or B), (both A and B) and (A or B or C).
(f) [4 points] List outcomes in (A or B or C)/; here (A or B or C)/ stands for the complement event of the event
(A or B or C).

Question # 5: A family consisting of three persons -- A, B, and C belongs to a medical clinic that always has a
doctor at each station 1, 2, and 3. During a certain week, each member of the family visits the clinic once and is
assigned at random to a station. The experiment consists of recording the station number for each member. One
outcome is (1, 2, 1) for A to station 1, B to station 2 and C to station 1.
(a) [5 points] List the 27 outcomes in the sample space.
(b) [5 points] List all the outcomes in the event that all three members go to the same station.
(c) [5 points] List all the outcomes in the event that all three members go to the different stations.
(d) [5 points] List all the outcomes in the event that no one goes to station 2.
(e) [5 points] What are the union and intersection of the two events in parts (b) and (d).
