● Physical changes - Changes to matter that only affect its physical appearance or state,

not its composition. The atoms and molecules that make up a substance do not change
during physical changes. Boiling water is a physical change.
● Chemical changes - Changes to matter that rearrange the atoms of a substance,
transforming it into a completely different substance. Iron rusting is a chemical change
affecting iron and oxygen composition.
● Physical property - A property of matter that a substance displays without changing the
chemical composition of its molecules. Physical properties include density, boiling point,
melting point, physical appearance, color, taste, and odor.
● Chemical property - A property of matter that a substance displays only during a
chemical change. Chemical properties include toxicity, acidity, flammability, and
corrosiveness, along with other things.
