2. SAFETY PRECAUTIONS

2.1 Meaning of Signal Words

In this manual, the signal words DANGER, WARNING, and CAUTION are used to
indicate safety and other important instructions. The signal words and their meanings are defined
as follows. Please understand their meanings clearly before reading this manual.

Signal word Meaning

DANGER Indicates an imminently hazardous situation which, if not avoided,

will result in death or serious injury.

WARNING Indicates a potentially hazardous situation which, if not avoided,

could result in death or serious injury.

CAUTION Indicates a potentially hazardous situation which, if not avoided,

may result in minor or moderate injury.

CAUTION Indicates a potentially hazardous situation which, if not avoided, may

result in property damage.

In addition to the above, the signal word NOTE is used to indicate other important information.

NOTE Indicates reference information that enables more efficient use of the
equipment.

2.2 Ensuring the Safety of Workers

To ensure the safety of workers, pay attention to the following points.

WARNING: 1. Post a sign reading "INSPECTION IN PROGRESS" on the entrance

of the radiographic room during work to make people outside the
room aware that work is in progress and thereby avoid
endangering them.

2. Be sure to inform co-workers before turning ON the power of the

distribution board and unit.

3. When emergency stop is required, immediately press the power

OFF switch.

CAUTION: 1. Before starting the work, fully review the work contents and
procedures with co-workers so that work can be performed safely and
efficiently.

2. Before starting the work, carefully read all the manuals for the units
used in combination and fully understand the contents.

7
No. 2C621-430EN*B

CAUTION: 3. Wear a safety helmet and safety shoes during work.

When working in high places, wear a safety helmet and use a stable
stepladder.

4. When moving the system, be sure to check the following points.

• Confirm that there are no persons or obstacles behind the unit.

• Confirm that no tools are placed on the unit.

5. Exercise extreme care to ensure safety, because heavy units must be

handled during this work. Do not allow a person to carry an object
weighing more than 20 kg.

2.3 Prevention of Electric Shock, Fire, or Power Failure

To prevent electric shock, fire, or power failure, pay attention to the following points.

WARNING: 1. Before connecting the power cable, be sure to turn OFF the breaker
of the power distribution board of the facility. Otherwise, death or
serious injury caused by an electric shock may result.

2. Do not use explosive, combustible, or flammable gases or liquids

near this unit. There is a risk of an explosion or a fire.

3. Before opening the system to replace parts or connect measuring

instruments, be sure to turn OFF the power of the system and of
the facility to prevent electric shock. Wait for at least 5 minutes
after turning OFF the power before replacing parts or connecting
measuring instruments.

A section in the inverter unit (C BANK UNIT) carries a high charge.

Be sure to check for residual voltage (relative to ground) of this
part using the digital voltmeter.

Never change measurement points or connect/disconnect

connectors while power is supplied.

CAUTION: 1. Take all required precautions to prevent electric shock. If the power of
the unit is turned ON with the cover of the unit removed, do not touch
sections to which power is supplied.

2. Do not spill or spray disinfectant, detergent, or water on the unit or on

the floor. When performing disinfection or cleaning, use a soft cloth
that has been soaked in disinfectant or detergent and thoroughly
wrung out. Disinfection or cleaning should be performed only for
sections which require disinfection or cleaning. If a liquid enters the
system or cable pit, a malfunction or an accident may occur.

8
No. 2C621-430EN*B

2.4 Prevention of Exposure to X-rays

To minimize X-ray exposure, pay attention to the following points.

WARNING: The handswitch or the READY/X-RAY switch should be pressed only

when X-ray exposure is to be performed. Pressing this switch while
the power is ON results in X-ray generation. The user must therefore
be careful not to press this switch accidentally.

CAUTION: When generating X-rays, confirm that only the required workers are
present in the radiographic room.

If work must be performed in the radiographic room while X-rays are

being generated, every worker must wear protective clothing and use a
protective screen etc. to avoid exposure to X-rays.

2.5 Prevention of Incorrect Operation or System Malfunction

To prevent incorrect operation or system malfunction, pay attention to the following points.

CAUTION: The use of radio-wave-emitting devices near this system may interfere
with its operation. Devices which generate radio waves, such as cellular
phones, transceivers, and radio-controlled toys, must not be brought
into the room where this unit is installed and must never be used near
the unit.

CAUTION: 1. Be sure to turn OFF the power of the system before starting the work.

2. When inserting the ROM, pay special attention to the position of pin 1 (this should
be on the lower side). In addition, make sure that all the leads are securely in
contact with the socket.

3. The removed covers and other items must be stored in a safe place so that they do
not fall over or become damaged.

 Two-touch selection mode: 100 programs are assigned for each of region 1 to region 7
and 299 programs are assigned to region 8 (AUX).

The maximum number of programs that can be assigned to each region can be set with item
Nos. 68 to 76 of the system condition setting (C0) data. Even if the conditions are set with
the service tool, the program cannot be assigned if the number of programs assigned to the
region exceeds the upper limit.

(3) At sites where physique setting is not required, set the same radiographic conditions for all
physiques so that the radiographic conditions will not be changed even if the physique switch
is pressed accidentally. Alternatively, disable the physique switch with item No. 62 of the
system condition setting (C0) data.

Figure 7.1-3

No. 2C621-430EN*B

(4) In order to avoid incorrect setting, the setting item associated with AEC is grayed out when
AEC is set to OFF. The option list for a grayed-out item is not displayed even if the mouse is
right-clicked on the item.

Figure 7.1-4

(5) When the program data is copied, be sure to use the [Copy] button displayed on the screen
in order to maintain the macros in the service tool.

Select the copy range (source cell) and click the [Copy] button. The [Paste] button is then
displayed. Select the destination cell and click the [Paste] button.

The copy/paste and undo/redo operations of the standard Excel function in the toolbar or
keyboard shortcuts, such as Ctrl + C or Ctrl + V, may not operate properly due to effects from
internal macros. Therefore, be sure to use the dedicated Copy/Paste/Undo buttons of the
service tool.

Note that sheet protection should not be released.

When copying between files is performed, confirm that both the source and destination files
are open and then click the [Copy] button. The [Paste] button is not displayed if the
destination file is closed.

Figure 7.1-5

32
No. 2C621-430EN*B

When the data has been pasted, the [Undo] button is displayed and can be used once to
undo the last operation. Note that if the display is changed to another sheet after the data
has been pasted, [Undo] operation cannot be performed because the internal macro has
been switched.

Figure 7.1-6

(6) 800 mA and 1000 mA can be selected in the mA setting list, but they are optional for the
KXO-80SS. Do not select them for the KXO-50SS, KXO-32SS, or KXO-25SS. The
maximum mA for the KXO-50SS, KXO-32SS, and KXO-25SS is 630 mA, 500mA, and 320
mA respectively.

Figure 7.1-7

33
No. 2C621-430EN*B

(7) The unit for exposure time setting is "msec". Be careful when performing setting.

When mAs is selected in the device condition settings, the mAs value is calculated in the
KXO based on the mA and msec settings.

Selections are available from 1 ms to 9000 ms for the KXO-50SS and KXO-80SS in the
exposure time setting list. However, the exposure time that can be set for the KXO-25SS and
KXO-32SS is 1 ms to 3200 ms, and 2 ms to 3200 ms, respectively. Do not select an
exposure time outside the range for the KXO-25SS and KXO-32SS.

Figure 7.1-8

(8) For Technique, AEC, Density, perform setting appropriately according to the setting of the
device condition (C0) data (for example, although "Not used" has been set for item No. 11
(X-ray tube setting for Bucky2) in the device condition settings, Bucky2 is selected for
Technique).

(9) When all required program data entry has been completed, check whether there are any
blank boxes in the data using the [Data Check] button.

7.3 Other Data

Edit the device condition (C0), tube1 X-ray adjustment (C1), tube2 X-ray adjustment (C2), and
AEC adjustment (C3) data. The items that should be entered from the keyboard are shown in
yellowish brown and those that should be selected from the option list are shown in light blue in the
same manner as the program data.

When editing is completed, confirm that the data is complete using the [Data Check] button.

When editing the device condition data, be sure to set the correct output limit (25 to 80 kW) as
described in subsection 6.3 (2).

Note that the setting contents in the device condition (C0) data is too long to be specified; therefore,
they are indicated in the display pane of the selected item at the bottom of the setting list.

7.4 Deleting Data

All of the data in the file can be deleted by selecting [Service Tools]  [Delete all data]. To store
the data in another sheet, backup the file before performing data deletion.

7.5 Memo

Select [Service Tools]  [Memo] or select the Memo tab to display the sheet for freely entering the
data.

Use this sheet to record data (such as the number of exposures) when a PWB is replaced.

8. RADIOGRAPHIC PROGRAM DATA INITIAL VALUES

8.1 For the KXO-50SS, -80SS

The factory default radiographic program data of the KXO-50SS and KXO-80SS can be selected
using the panel buttons shown below. In two-touch selection mode, the upper buttons are used to
select the region and the lower buttons are used to select the program number. The data in the
comment column on the left of the table is not transferred. The "kxo-ss label creation tool.xls" file
is available to change the label to be attached to the sheet panel.
