● Define “irony” in literature and the different forms of irony: verbal irony,

dramatic irony, and situational irony. Discuss some examples of irony seen in
The 5th Wave. What types of irony are each of these examples? What
purpose does the irony serve?

What purpose does it serve in the book and examples of it

WHat types of irony happen in the real world or what are examples in the real world

Inory can be susitianital, dramatic or even just verbal, but what purpose do these really
serve? Dramatic irony can be very funny in the plot or can lead to 2nd hand
embarrassment. But it does have a purpose in the water but it could probably also be
used when a person knows something that another one does not but I do believe that
dramatic irony is meant to be used in theater. SItuational irony is a type of irony that it's
based on your situation. And verbal irony is something a person says that is ironic.

First of all we have dramatic irony, which can be used in a lot of movies, for
example in the Titanic when Rose and Jack are having their romantic moment. Jack
said something along the lines of “It’s so beautiful I could die!” well they did die, and
most of the viewers knew they were gonna die. That's dramatic irony, I think it’s a great
use in movies but not always the best in real life. It serves as a comedic relief in a
situation. Another place where comedic relief could take place is in books. In the book
the 5th wave a great example of dramatic irony is when, reznik, that one guy who took
weeks to train his squad later decided to kill them. Though we are let in on it since we
are the readers of the book. Of course you may think that dramatic irony is just death
and actually yes in some cases it is. Although an example of when it's not death is when
in the 5th wave cassie thinks sammy is an innocent child that wouldn’t harm a bug well
that's false he actually kills peoples.

Secondly, we have situational irony which when compared to dramatic irony,

situational irony it's used a lot more in “the real world”. Situational irony is a type of
irony that is basically not what you expect, or something doing something when it
serves the opposite purpose. To explain it you have a marriage counselor, their job is to
try and help your marriage work because there is a lot for divorces in the world And
that's their job. The next day you want in, they're crying, you ask why and then they say
they're getting divorced. Or a more common example, A fire station setting on fire.
Those examples are situational irony because they're the opposite of what you’d expect,
Though unlike dramatic irony this appears a lot in shows and real life situations. More
examples of situational irony is in the book, because not only can it appear in shows it
also can appear in books. In the 5th wave, there is actually an example of this
situational irony, so there's these 2 characters, Evan who is pretty important and
Cassies who is also pretty important and evan saves cassie from her draft in an alien
filled world with these things called silencers. Once cassie sheets shot in the leg she
kinda dieing and trapped in this tiny car so she doesn't die but evenly she gets saved
and nursed back to health well you would expect him to be a heartwarming prince,
especially due to what they do in the book but in reality he is the silencer that tried to kill
cassie. Situational irony is really just sisuttinas you wouldn't expect to happen and can
range from, a person on social media saying they hate social media to a person trying
to kill another even though they were in a deep love. After that all situational irony does
actually serve a purpose, it shows off your character much more and allows the
audience to learn more about them.

Finally, we have verbal irony unlike the other ironies. This one happens in the
form of words instead of your situation. Verbal irony is also used very commonly, you
could say something that is ironic about invisibility and not see it. Examples of verbal
irony is simply seeing somebody dead in the party and say something like “dang, he's
living it up!” now would that be incentivised, very much so but if you were tired and said
“This weather is very nice!” while there's a nasty thunderstorm that would also be verbal
irony. Verbal irony also is very passive aggressive compared to the other kinds of irony.
You can see verbal irony in the 5th wave because it's irony and can be found in most
things. Evana nd cassie are some pretty important characters and something that
casssie found out about evans is he does farm work, now htta pretty important because
he ha very nice cuticles meaning he maintains them and doing yard works, getting very
smooth hands and everything else is very hard. Out of that example what was being
said was while cassie was very close to death she was more interested in somebody's
cuticles. Again since all irons have a purpose, verbal is to get a point though usually it's
very passive aggressive.

To conclude, We have dramatic irony, situational irony and also verbal irony
which can be found anywhere from real life to books. Along with that they all serve a
purpose like erybal is to get a point across and dramatic irony can be to make the plot
more interesting or make sure there's something else there that sticks with people.
