COURSE GUIDE
I. Course Title: Christian Morality in Our Times

II. Course Overview

A. Introduction
Dear Louisian Student,

As you embark on your direction towards academic excellence and missionary

spirit, we, your teachers, commit ourselves to guide you to equally focus your attention
to your spiritual and moral life as co-missionaries of the Congregation of the
Immaculate Heart of Mary (CICM). With this commitment, we are challenged to come
up with new materials that are adapted to the present situation of learning mode - from
the traditional classroom set-up to a Distance Learning Education - in Saint Louis
University.

The modules for Christian Faith Education (CFE) 102, Christian Morality in our
Times, follow the SEE - DISCERN - ACT method that was introduced by Joseph Cardinal
Cardijn in Europe. In these modules, as in other Religious Education workbooks of CICM
schools, the method is renamed as CONTEXT - INSPIRED WORD OF GOD – CHURCH
TEACHING – MISSIONARY RESPONSE (C-I-C-M) method. The Context introduces you to a
better knowledge of your present situation and is the equivalent of Engage in this
module. The Inspired Word of God provides a reading from the Sacred Scriptures that is
relevant to the topic. The Church Teaching presents a well-selected excerpt from the
riches of the Catholic Church’s document that supports the Bible text. The reading of
both the Inspired Word of God and the Church Teaching are equivalent to Explore while
the discussions about these are equivalent to Explain and Elaborate in this module. The
Missionary Response provides you with an activity wherein you apply the lesson in your
actual life situation as a way to evaluate your learning. This is equivalent to Evaluate in
this module.

This institutional course is to be taken by all students across all programs

regardless of religious faiths and affiliations. Further, this is to be taken by all students in
all CICM higher education institutions. For Catholics, this course will enhance your
understanding of our own faith/doctrine, our moral laws, and our rituals and
celebrations (prayer and liturgy) that have been parts of our day-to-day lives. For non-
Catholics, this is an invitation for you to reflect on the richness of the Catholic tradition,
which will eventually lead you to a better appreciation of your own religious traditions.

B. Module Topics
The following are the short descriptions of each module.

MODULE 1: Basic Assumptions on Christian Morality – This module focuses on the basic

This module introduces you to some personal and family issues that are affecting

III. Course Study Guide

For you to successfully finish this course in CFE 102, we can help facilitate your
learning, but we can only do as much. This course was prepared for you to learn
diligently, intelligently, and independently. As a Louisian, doing these will greatly help
and prepare you to become a better person. Aside from meeting the content and
performance standards of this course in accomplishing the given activities, you will be
able to learn other valuable skills which you will be very proud of as a responsible
learner.

The following guides will help you further to be on track and to say at the end of the
module, "I did well!"
1. Schedule and manage your time to read and understand every part of the
module. Read it over and over until you understand the point.
2. Study how you can manage to do the activities of this module in consideration
of your other modules from other courses. Be very conscious of the study
schedule. Post it on a conspicuous place so that you can always see. Do not ask
about questions that are already answered in the guide.
3. If you did not understand the readings and other tasks, re-read. If this will not
work, engage all possible resources. You may ask other family members to help
you. If this will not work again, message us first so that we can call you or text you
back for assistance.
4. Do not procrastinate. Accomplish your tasks and turn them in promptly.
5. Before you start doing your tasks, read and understand the assessment tools
provided. Do not settle with the low standards, target the highest standards in
doing your assigned tasks.
6. If needed, do not hesitate to keep in touch with your facilitator.
7. Make sure to review your activities before turning them in. You must remember
that all activities in the module are both academic and religious requirements,
which means that the relevant academic and religious conventions apply:
a. Do not use abbreviations and acronyms unless these are
introduced in the readings, and do not write in text-speak. Avoid
writing in all caps.
b. In the self-processed discussions, write appropriate and well-
thought arguments and judgements. Avoid merely approving or
disapproving with what is expressed in the material. You need to
support your inputs in the discussions from reliable information or
from empirical observation. Do not write uninformed opinions.
