COURSE GUIDE
I. Course Title: CICM IN ACTION: INDIGENOUS PEOPLES AND
INTERRELIGOUS DIALOGUE
II. Course Overview
A. Introduction
Dear Louisian,

As we embark on our direction towards academic excellence and Christian

Spirit, we focus on our spiritual and moral uprightness as co-missionaries of the
Congregation of the Immaculate Heart of Mary (CICM) as our look into our new normal
of our education system, we are forced to come up with materials that will guide us in
our pursuit of an excellent education in Saint Louis University.
This module for the Christian Faith Education (CFE) 105 is designed to be taken
after you have completed CFE 101, 102. 103, and 104 so that you have a better grasp
of the basic Bible stories and teachings, moral values and virtues, mission, and the
CICM. All these are necessary for you to better understand and engage in the works
for Justice, Peace, Integrity of Creation, and Indigenous Peoples.
This course is to be taken by all students across all programs to be able to
graduate in Saint Louis University. This same course is to be taken by all students in all
CICM higher education institutions.
We use the See – Discern – Act Method as “Context – Inspired Word – Church
Teaching – Missionary Response” (CICM), which still retains its essential focus and
orientation even if the Context part is now renamed “Engage”, while the reading of
both the Inspired Word and Church Teaching corresponds to “Explore” and the
discussion that ensues is equivalent to “Explain and Elaborate.” Finally, the Missionary
Response part is now presented as “Evaluate.”
This core institutional subject is to be taken by all students across all programs and
regardless of religious faiths and affiliations. Though this is a requirement for graduation
in Saint Louis University, rest assured that this course and other CFE courses will not be
used to proselytize. For Catholics, this course will enhance your understanding of our
own faith/doctrine, our moral laws, and our rituals that have become parts of our day
to day lives. For non-Catholics among you, this is an invitation for you to reflect on the
riches of the Catholic tradition. This reflection will eventually lead you to a better

appreciation of your own religious traditions. This same course is to be taken by all
students in all CICM higher education institutions.
A constant weekly evaluation/application activity is a reflection activity (reflection
paper, drawing, poem, song, etc.) on your Religious Involvement on a Sunday or a
Saturday evening Mass. This applies not only to Catholics, but also to those belonging to
other Christian denominations or other religions, who can do a somewhat similar weekly
religious activity.

B. Module Topics
To ensure that that you will demonstrate the above learning outcomes, we
prepared for you 2 modules as your guide in doing the activities:

MODULE 1: The CICM Mission on the Indigenous Peoples

This module presents the trajectory of the CICM mission in its work for justice in
various situations. This includes the Indigenous practices in matters of justice
and in peace processes. It prepares you, Louisians, to be collaborators of the
CICM in doing God’s mission of justice to the indigenous peoples so that
peace may reign wherever you will go.

MODULE 2: The CICM Mission on Interreligious Dialogue

This module will present a perspective by which we, as stakeholders of Saint
Louis University will be able to work for harmony in our communities. This
endeavor for peace will be patterned after the mission of the CICM on
interreligious dialogue.

III. Course Study Guide

The key to successfully finish this module lies in your hands with the guidance of
the Holy Spirit. This module was prepared for you to learn diligently, intelligently, and
independently. As lifetime Louisians, doing these will greatly help and prepare you to
become better persons. Aside from meeting the content and performance standards
of this course in accomplishing the given activities, you will be able to learn other
invaluable learning skills which you will be very proud of as responsible learners.

The following guides and house rules will help you further to be on track and to
say at the end of the module, "I did well!"

1. Schedule and manage your time to read and understand every part of the module.
Read it over and over until you understand the point.
2. Study how you can manage to do the activities of this module in consideration of your
other modules from other courses. Be very conscious of the study schedule. Post it on a
conspicuous place so that you can always see. Do not ask about questions that are
already answered in the guide.
3. If you did not understand the readings and other tasks, re-read. Focus. If this will not
work, engage all possible resources. You may ask other family members to help you. If
this will not work again, message us first so that we can call you or text you back for
assistance.
4. Do not procrastinate. Remember, it is not others who will be short-changed if you will not
do your work on time. It will be you.
5. Before you start doing your tasks, read and understand the assessment tools provided.
Do not settle with the low standards, target the highest standards in doing your
assigned tasks. I know you can.
6. You are free to browse and read the different units of the module even prior to doing
the tasks in each unit. However, you need to ensure that you will not miss any part of
the module and you will not miss to accomplish every activity in every unit as
scheduled.
7. After you are done with the activities, make sure to turn-in your output. While waiting for
your scores to be sent back to you, continue doing the task in the succeeding units of
the module that are scheduled next.
8. If needed, do not hesitate to keep in touch with us through a private message. If not,
send us a message through any available means.
9. Before submitting any assessment and evaluation activity, make sure you read it and
finalize it. You must remember that all activities in the module are both academic and
religious requirements, which means that the relevant academic and religious
conventions apply: Think and reflect before you write.
a. Your answers should be composed of complete and grammatically correct
sentences. Do not use abbreviations and acronyms unless these are introduced in
the readings, and do not write in text-speak. Avoid writing in all caps.
b. In the self-processed discussions, write appropriate and well-thought arguments
and judgements. Avoid merely approving or disapproving what is expressed in the
material. You need to support your inputs in the discussions with reliable
information or with empirical observation. Do not write uninformed opinions.
c. Do not write lengthy answers. Stick to the point. Be clear what your main point is
and express it as concisely as possible. Do not let your discussion stray.

d. Properly acknowledge your sources, if there are, in answering any of the activities.
10. You are the learner; hence, you do the module on your own. Your family members and
friends at home will support you but you alone must actually perform the provided
activities. As Louisans, we always need to demonstrate our core values of competence,
creativity, social involvement and Christian spirit.
11. You will need three notebooks for your outputs:
a. A notebook for all your Religious Involvement Activities
b. A notebook for all your activities from the Context, Assignments and Quizzes (if
submission is required), and the Missionary Response. (You can cut the activities from
the book and that is what you’ll submit instead.)
c. A notebook for your Prelim, Midterm, and Final Exams
Note: If you wish to send your outputs to your teacher via email, please consult with
him/her.
