Abstract
Biomechanical Analysis of Diving Skill for Goalkeepers
in Soccer As a basis for Setting Specific Drills

Researcher: Ahmed Ali Mohamed Ali Sewilam

Introduction:
Biomechanics contributes to the education and training of sports skills.
Besides studying biomechanical variables helps evaluating skills performance
objectively to determine the strengths and weaknesses in performance, as well
as getting information that will help in developing exercise related to sports
activity practiced on scientific basis and reaching the highest possible level of
training. The diving skill of soccer goalkeepers is considered an important skill
that shows the physical skill and tactical abilities of the goalkeeper. Through
this skill we can stand on his training and identify his strengths and
weaknesses. Because this skill requires to jump up opposite to the work force
of gravity, that pushes the body down, which requires the goalkeeper to make
a great muscular strength to overcome this force. By analyzing many studies
and researches the researcher found out that most football research focused
the attack players, the middle line, and the defenders, and surprisingly it often
excluded the goalkeepers in biomechanical studies. In addition, some
researchers used to the biomechanical analysis to determine the technical
characteristics of this skill without paying attention to directing of the training

process and developing the training programs in accordance with the
biomechanical indicators of the skill that why the researcher, believed it is
important to conduct a scientific study for predicting the level of skill
performance of the diving skill for football goalkeepers based on the
biomechanical indicators to design a group of specific drills related to the skill
under study based on a scientific and objective basis.

Research objective:

The biomechanical analysis of diving skill for soccer goalkeepers as a

basis for the developing specific drills and improving the performance level
through:

1 .Identifying the most important biomechanical indicators of the skill under

study that can be relied upon as the basis for developing specific drills.

2 .Identifying the correlation between some of the biomechanical indicators of

the skill under study and the level of performance effectiveness.

3 .Identifying the percentage of contribution of some biomechanical indicators

for skill under study on the level of performance efficiency.

4 .Predicting the performance level given some biomechanical indicators of for

the skill under study.

Research questions

1 .What are the important biomechanical indicators of the skill under study that
can be relied upon as the basis for developing specific drills?

-3-
2 .What is the correlation between some of the biomechanical indicators of the
skill under study and the level of performance efficiency?

3 .What is the percentage of contribution of some biomechanical indicators of

skill under study at the level of performance efficiency?

4 .Is it possible to develop mathematical equations to predict the performance

level given some biomechanical indicators for the skill under study?

Research procedures:

1 .Research Methodology:

The researcher used the descriptive approach based on the three-

dimensional biomechanical analysis using videotaping and motor analysis using
Simi Motion program, as it suits the nature of the research.

2 .Research field:

•The spatial field: Zagazig University Stadium.

•The time field: 2015/2016 AD.

•The human field: soccer goalkeepers.

3 .Research sample:

The sample was selected by the intentional way of soccer goalkeeper's

juniors under (20) years old, with total of (4) goalkeepers (3) of them for the
basic study, (1) goalkeeper for the exploratory studies.

The statistical processing:

The researcher used statistical analysis software (Spss) in data

processing statistically using:

1. Arithmetic Mean.

2. Median.

3. The standard deviation.

4. Skewness coefficient.

5. Multiple-correlation coefficient.

6. Multiple regression analysis.

Conclusions:

Considering the results that have been reached by this research, within
the limits of the nature and characteristics of the sample, the scope of the used
measuring tools, the statistical processors and for achieving the research
objectives, the following was reached:

1 .The biomechanical indicators most related to the performance level of the

diving skill of soccer goalkeepers during selected moments.

2 .Some predictive equations of the technical performance of soccer

goalkeepers by identifying the biomechanical indicators affecting the
performance of the skill under study were developed which contributed to the
design specific drills related to the skill under study.

Recommendations:

With the limits of research sample, the methods and procedures used
and in the considering the results the researcher recommends the following:

1 .Using the results of the biomechanically analysis concluded by the study as

a guide, as well as using the specific drills proposed during training on the skill

under study.

2 .Paying attention to training the groups of working muscles during the

performance of the diving skill for soccer goalkeepers.

3 .The necessity of using modern tools and devices in training the soccer
goalkeepers, as well as using the ball throwing equipment in the training
process and the preparation for competition whenever possible.

4 .Paying attention to training soccer goalkeepers and developing the skill side
using different exercises such as forward jump and vertical jump and others as
well as paying attention to the feet exercises movements.

5 .Using the regression equations in predicting the performance level of soccer

goalkeepers while performing the skill under study.
