• Badminton is an ancient game known as battledore (bat or paddle) and shut the cock probably originated more
than 2000 years ago.

• in the 1800s, in India, a contemporary form of badminton a game called Poona.

• in March 1898, The first open tournament was held at Guilford, England.

• British officers in the mid 1800s took back to England, and I was introduced as a game for the guests of the Duke

• badminton takes its name from badminton house- home of the Duke of Beaufort in the English county of the
Gloucester shire.

Equipment:

• rocket, net, shuttlecock

Badminton terminologies
  Backhand- any stroke made on the side of the body opposite the racket side.
 Bird- the object that flies over the net, officially known as a shuttlecock.
 Double hit- contacting the word twice in succession on the same stroke.
 Doubles – a game of four players to on each team.
 Fault- any violation of the rules whose penalty is loss of serve or the point.
 Forehand- any stroke made on the racket side of the body.
 Let- a play allowed to be replayed.
 Rally- exchange of shots while the shuttle is in play.
 Receiver- the player to whom the bird is served.
 Server- the player who puts the bird in play.
 Singles- a game involving one player on each end of the court.
 Stroke- the action of striking the bird with the rocket.

Grip- badminton is very important sport that is quite different from other rocket games like tennis or table tennis.
A wrist snap is very important for proper play so that must be held in such a way that the greatest amount of risk
action is possible.

2 types of Grip.

1. Forehand Grip
2. Backhand Grip

1. Forehand Grip - this is popularly called the handshake grip for it means the palm to be parallel to the face
of the rocket.
2. Backhand Grip - this is slightly modified version of the forehand grip it can be varied depending on the
type of the shot being hit.

3. Underarm forehand
4. Underarm backhand
