Rice Husk and Banana Peel Based Biodegradable Seedling Pots: A Sustainable Solution

for Sustainable Agriculture

Introduction

In recent years the agricultural industry has been facing increasing pressure to adopt

more sustainable practices. One area of focus has been on finding alternatives to traditional

plastic seedling pots which contribute to environmental pollution and waste. This thesis

proposal aims to explore the use of rice husk and banana peel based biodegradable seedling

pots as a sustainable alternative for seedling cultivation in agriculture.

Literature Review

Previous studies have shown that rice husk and banana peel are rich in nutrients and

have the potential to be used as organic materials in agricultural applications. Rice husk a

byproduct of rice milling is abundant and has been found to have high water holding capacity

and good aeration properties making it an ideal material for seedling pots. Similarly banana

peel a common household waste is rich in potassium and other nutrients that can benefit plant

growth.

Methodology

Chapter 3 will focus on the methodology for creating rice husk and banana peel based

biodegradable seedling pots. The procedure will involve collecting rice husk and banana peel

waste cleaning and drying the materials grinding them into a fine powder mixing them with a

biodegradable binder and molding the mixture into seedling pots. The study will also include

testing the physical and chemical properties of the seedling pots as well as assessing their

performance in seed germination and plant growth experiments.

Conclusion

In conclusion the use of rice husk and banana peel based biodegradable seedling pots
3

has the potential to be a sustainable solution for seedling cultivation in agriculture. By

utilizing these organic materials farmers can reduce their reliance on plastic pots and

contribute to environmental conservation. Further research is needed to optimize the

production process and evaluate the long-term effects of using these biodegradable pots on

plant growth and soil health.
