world.
This animal is in danger of extinction, caused by illegal hunting, pollution and
diseases. The giant frog of Lake Titicaca is an animal that measures 16 to 20
centimeters, its skin is soft and loose, brown with gray spots, its head is wide
and flattened.

The giant frog of Lake Titicaca feeds on plant remains, worms, mollusks, small
fish, tadpoles, which, thanks to its keen eyesight and great ability to swim,
easily captures its prey.

Habitat:
The giant frogs of Lake Titicaca live 3 to 4 meters deep in fresh, cold waters.
These frogs are usually found in calm water areas, where they can make the
most of their lifestyle. In addition, they have a preference for habitats with
aquatic vegetation. The giant frog usually hides under rocks, using them as a
shelter, breeding place and resting area.

The giant frogs of Lake Titicaca were classified as endangered in 2004. The
health of Lake Titicaca had worsened, reducing this species, this frog faces
overexploitation, illegal trade, pollution from boat fuel, change climate and
bycatch.

Preservation:
The Denver Zoo begins a project to bring this frog to the Huachipa Zoo in Lima
in collaboration with the Cayetano Heredia University, to study, conserve and
preserve its species. Other institutions, the Titicaca National Reserve, also
collaborated, reducing and controlling the illegal use of this species.
